I was thinking about my Venezuela post and remembered this song by Celia Cruz. It's describing a carnival in Venezuela. Simon Bolivar led the South American revolt against Spain. Hugo Chavez calls his movement the Movimiento Bolivariano Revolucionario after him.

This song is from a remarkable collection of Celia Cruz songs from the late forties, before her incredible 15 years with the Sonora Matancera. Unfortunately, the cd is out of print (yet Justin Timberlake's cd is probably within half a mile of where you stand). Every single song on the record is wonderful and includes some that are quite unusual for Celia. As for today's song, Celia shreds Cumbanchero to pieces, but does so without straining, sounding as relaxed as a piece of celery on Rosie O'Donnell's dinner table.
