From: The Sabbats - A Celebration of MAY DAY by Mike Nichols'Perhaps it's just as well that you won't be here...to be offended by the sight of our May Day celebrations.' --Lord Summerisle to Sgt. Howie from 'The Wicker Man' There are four great festivals of the Pagan Celtic year and the modern Witch's calendar, as well. The two greatest of these are Halloween (the beginning of winter) and May Day (the beginning of summer). Being opposite each other on the wheel of the year, they separate the year into halves. Halloween (also called Samhain) is the Celtic New Year and is generally considered the more important of the two, though May Day runs a close second. Indeed, in some areas -- notably Wales -- it is considered the great holiday. May Day ushers in the fifth month of the moder

It was a huge open air, food, fun and commerical extravaganza. There were two stages set up for parallel dance and music performances. Let me not go into too much of a dialog about the celebrations, just watch the video and you will know what kind of celebrations it was.

{summary}April has always been a birthday-heavy month in my family (don’t know what’s up with that - in my opinion July just doesn’t seem like an opportune time for people to be breeding given the heat and all). Not only are there a bunch of birthdays in my immediate and slightly-less-than-immediate family, at least three of my coworkers have April birthdays. I ignored this until yesterday when one particular coworker was walking the unit and encouraging us to be on our best behavior because she wanted to have a good day (it is her twenty-third twenty-second birthday, after all).
I asked, half-jokingly, “Do you want me to bring you cupcakes?” She shrieked “Yes!” and went off down the hall coordinating who would bring punch, who would bring chips, and so
I checked on and the batter rose up pretty good. So you can see I am back with all the fermented dosa dishes! And my, each one is such a delight for eyes! After working on the entries, I knew everybody loves Dosas. What else can I say after seeing the enthusiasm shown by all. Lets move on to check out each of them! I wanted to post the pictures the usual way, but I knew this will end up being one long post.*********************************************Well, let me begin this Dosas with fermented Batter session, with my dear friends humorous account on trying to make the authentic Injera at home!Injera, they say, is a famous African crepe made with teff, an ancient grain grown in the Ethiopian highlands. This is the first time I am hearing of this dish. The Jungalbandits sure know ways to cap

I've been meaning to post since Thursday, but for one reason or another haven't got round to it. Thursday was my Grandparents' diamond wedding anniversary. How terribly depressing it is to have a major milestone like that marked by a tea party in a hospital! At least Grandad is in a recuperative centre now rather than the General. Mum spoke to the staff earlier in the week and they let us use the ward's day room for the afternoon visiting on Thursday. I took a few hours out of work (fair enough since I was returning for a meeting in the evening) and my aunt, her husband and a couple of my cousins came down from York for it as well. The place Grandad's now in allows patients to be dressed which has to have been an improvement for Grandad's dignity than shuffling around in pyjamas and a

Baltimore: Charm City’s southwestern neighborhoods have had deep Irish Catholic roots ever since the wave of immigrants who fled the privation of the “Great Hunger” in the late 1840s landed upon American shores. Many took up employment with the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, helping to make Baltimore one of the country’s main railroad hubs.

Boston: The first St. Patrick’s Day parade in Boston is believed to have been held in 1737, organized by the Charitable Irish Society. With a rich heritage of Irish history, this city has a stronger association with Ireland than any in the U.S., even though Chicago and Los Angeles claim larger populations of Irish descent.

Denver: The Irish spirit is strong even in the Western U.S., especially in this city where you’re more likely to see columbines (the state flower of Colorado) than shamrocks. Remember, it will take fewer pints to affect you at mile-high elevation, so it may be a good idea to stick to less potent potables.

As part of Scottish folklore, if the first person to enter your house during the New Year is a man with dark hair bearing a gift, you will be blessed with good luck. The ancient Egyptians celebrated the New Year at the time the Nile River flooded - near the end of September - which enabled the people to grow crops. The Celts called their New Year festival Samhain, meaning summer's end.To keep out evil spirits, some Japanese hang a rope of straw across the front of their house on New Year's Day.The people in northern India wear flowers on New Year's Day; a yellow flower, to them, is the color of spring. In ancient Egypt, New Year was celebrated with singing, dancing, and feasting for an entire month.A traditional polar bear swim event is held New Year's Eve in British Columbia, Canada; people
Do celebrations like this one help the Palestinian cause?A number of Muslim bloggers have expressed their disgust over the unseemly street celebrations by Palestinians for the murders of eight young Jewish students at an Israeli seminary in Jerusalem. Abdur-Rahman Muhammad and Tariq Nelson, both Muslim bloggers based in Washington, D.C., see nothing heroic in the attack or anything honorable about these public displays of hatred. The comments sections, however, are much more interesting as many Muslims express sharply opposing views on the attack and the celebrations. Many rightfully complain of the lack of attention to Palestinian deaths, but seem to think that media neglect and Israeli attacks justify the shootings or excuse the celebrations. Then there are a fair number of other Musl

We should overcome our differences and should not allow the progress of Auroville to be slowed down,” he added. The completion of Matrimandir marked the c
So last night friends, former colleagues and people I don't know all that well gathered in Lakeview for Ryan's belated birthday celebration. And this year, rather than dinner out at a restaurant with the inevitable awkwardness about dividing up the bill, my heterosexual life partner decided to serve chili, wine, appetizers and cake at his place and then go out to a neighborhood bar, the Gingerman. Financially, I liked this decision and once we got to his apartment and relaxed with a drink, it was really a nice change of pace.Sadly, gone are the days of kid parties, goodie bags and oodles of presents, and now, as an adult, you find yourself making a different kind of birthday fun. While sitting at the Gingerman last night, exhausted by midnight, I started comparing birthday celebrations as a
In a city full of 20-somethings who'd rather be single in New York City than married in Ohio, I attended my second Anti-Valentine's Day celebration in row. I'm not a romance antagonist, as I noted last year. In fact, I love genuine expressions of love. I'm just not a fan of consumer marketing-driven holidays. So I guess I don't like any holidays, but Valentine's Day in particular is the one that feels the most forced and insincere of all. It's the day when you say I love you because you have to.I gathered with about two dozen friends and friends of friends at Divine Bar on West 54th Street. It was my second best Valentine's Day ever. This was the first."Things I Love" Thursdays are inspired by "I Love New York" (BNY, February 14, 2007).

The festival dussera finally ended in india. The navratri mean before the festival of dussera they perform worship lord by doing pooja for nine days. And on the tenth and eleventh day they celebrate dussera with great joy. The festival is celebrated because lord rama stood victorious over villain ravana. So in other terms it is victory of good over bad.Ravana is big evil who has many powers. It was very difficult for humans to kill him and he was always troubling humans. He is also called king of evil.He has 10 heads.Suppose if human cut his head then other will rise up from his body.Such a cruel and horror evil he was. There was no peace on earth due to him.He was ruling mother earth. Each and every body was worried about how can they get relief from him.In such a time lord vishnu took birth in the form of lord rama and killed him by using his powerful lord's weapons. And from that time each and every year on this day they celebrate the dussera festival remembering evil ravana defeat. And
