When I tell my friends that I am now living and working in the Cayman Islands, many of them inevitably ask how easy it is to form a company in this tax-free haven. I got tired of explaining the whole company formation thing so I decided to blog about it and then refer them to this blog.
Getting around any of the islands of Cayman is fairly easy simply because all three islands are very tiny in size. Grand Cayman is the largest of the three Cayman Islands at about 96 km² and contains the capital George Town.
The Cayman Islands are apparently ranked the fifth largest financial centre in the world behind London, Tokyo, New York and Frankfurt. No surprise then, that the majority of high-flying jobs involve banking, insurance, fund administration, legal and financial accounting.
Accommodation is the single most large expense on the Cayman Islands for both visitors and tourists. The myth that the Cayman Islands are expensive in terms of a roof over your head is no myth at all, so be prepared to "cough up" for decent accommodation. There are ways of reducing your accommodation cost on the island which I will talk about later.

Exactly 20 years after we saw the original CTR, German tuning house RUF has announced the introduction of its third generation CTR3 coinciding with the launch of its new plant in Bahrain. The latest version will be based on the Porsche Cayman and like the original, the CTR3 will be one of the fastest Porsches on offer when it's released. Starting with the Porsche Cayman body, RUF has utilized racing technologies first seen on its 911-based RT12 offering. Powering the CTR3 is a twin-turbo 3.8L flat six engine pumping out 700hp at 7,000rpm with torque topping out at 890Nm. To save weight its developers added several unique body panels made from lightweight aluminum and carbon-fiber as well as a new lattice tubing spaceframe. The Million Dollar Race is on!
This Easter holidays sees the return of one of Cayman’s most exciting sporting events, but my race begins much sooner. Having been asked to exhibit some pieces for the big day, I have been giving a lot of thought to exactly what I should do for the show. The trouble is I’ve been thinking about it for a tad too long and now my own race is on to get things done in time! I am intending to produce 6 to 8 paintings and received an email this morning asking for some images for the pre-event publicity - gulp.
There is nothing like a challenge is there? I have until the end of the week so I’m pretty confident it’s a challenge I can rise to and I’m quite excited about the paintings.  Watch this space for how things come along, although the blog may have to take a back seat for a few days.

After having his fun he finally fessed up that he was the one responsible - I was surprised to say the least as he is not the painting kind and how on earth could he have found the time to produce a painting without me knowing a thing about it?

Visitors arriving in Georgetown will be hard pushed to miss our very own Margaritaville situated right on the waterfront.The building was not without controversy initially (it's the orange coloured structure in the accompanying photo) but I think folks have come to accept that it is a valuable addition to the local economy and a cool place to eat, knock back the odd cocktail or ice cold beer, and watch the world pass by from the great vantage point of the veranda.Being a country boy and a great believer in "It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere" I'm happy to give the venture a little plug on these pages. If you've never heard of the man or his music there is even a Radio Margaritaville that you can listen to on the web.I'm hoping to give regular bulletins on places to eat/drink/hangout here on the island as time goes on - that's a lot of ground to cover, a tough job that someone just has to do!

Sure it brings its problems but I like to hope that the majority of visitors leave having had a great experience. The Cayman Compass have just announced the launch of their new webcam on the waterfront in George Town. I've already been and had a quick look and it's a very good live cam - watch in real time and control the cam yourself. It's a Monday in January - 9am and I'm sitting on the front porch. Iced tea in my left hand and a cigarette dangling lazily from the fingers of my right. I feel like one of the many millionaires that populate this idyllic piece of real estate - although I'm not of course. Very far from it.
