In perhaps the most stunning and quickest turn around ever in Catholic education, officials announced tonight that Hudson Catholic High School, originally scheduled to close in June, will instead remain open, because the school's alumni have raised more than $500,000 in pledges in the last 2 1/2 weeks.They needed to raise $400,000 in that time frame, and they surpassed the imposed archdiocesan goal by more than $100,000.Congratulations to everyone involved. What an incredible effort by everyone.

I received this e-mail today from an alumnus in the Keep Hudson Catholic Open group on Facebook — and it looks like there could be a good announcement about the school's future coming tomorrow. Here's the text of the e-mail — and I'll let you know if I hear anything more on the situation.“I just spoke to an alumnus that is working very hard to keep the school open. He told me that a core group of alumni had a meeting yesterday with representatives of the archdiocese. Who says protests don't work anymore?At a meeting tonight at Hudson Catholic High School, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark told alumni and parents they had three weeks to come up with a fundraising plan to help keep the school office. And, it was also noted there is a chance the school could go co-ed after the upcoming school year.This is great news for the kids and alums of Hudson. Moss, a 27 year old former teacher at Barat Academy in Dardenne Prairie has been charged with furnishing pornographic material to a minor after she emailed nude photos of herself to a 15 year old student.Barat school officials say that Moss was fired last year, just 14 weeks after the Catholic school first opened.
