Photos of Vilnius: Hill of Crosses, Gediminas Castle, the main Cathedral, Vilnius oldtown, Gates of Dawn
Few days ago we went to have lunch on Gusto blynine (Gustas Pankakes), a really nice place to have lunch and I just took some photos in the center of Vilnius and the oldtown. Now there are a lot of construction in Vilnius, therefore, some to the places were hard to take photos in. First thing we went to the Hill of Crosses and took some photos of Vilnius scenery. Gediminas castle looks quite nice from this place. If You visit Vilnius, you can try to get up the hill to Gediminas Castle, there’s a museum in it and You can have some nice views of city oldtown when you climb on top of the castle. (more…)

      St Patrick's Cathedral
It is formally known as The National Cathedral & Collegiate Church of St Patrick. It is developed on a site believed to have been used by St Patrick to baptize local converts. It is the biggest church in Ireland and anything with that kind of hype should not be missed by tourists or visitors. Undoubtedly, St Patrick’s Cathedral’s attractions are their impressive medieval architectural features.

      San Francisco Cathedral
This loose ink sketch with watercolor is of a scene from "The City". I decided to just draw and not worry about details and exactness. All lines are very loose and if I made a mistake I just ignored it. Added color when I was through drawing. Ink and watercolor, 8" x 10".

      Cathedral of Chartres
The Cathedral of Chartres “Cathedral of Our Lady of Chartres”, located in Chartres, about 50 miles (80 km) from Paris, is considered one of the finest examples in all France of the “Gothic” style of architecture. The cathedral is still the seat of the Diocese of Chartres, in the Roman Catholic ecclesiastical province of Tours. Construction of a new building on the Romanesque foundations was begun in 1145 in a blaze of enthusiasm dubbed the ‘Cult of the Carts.’ During this religious outburst a crowd of more than a thousand penitents dragged carts filled with building provisions including stones, wood, grain, etc. to the site. In 1194 a fire destroyed all but the west front of the cathedral (and much of the town), so that part is in the “early Gothic” style. The body of the cathedral was rebuilt between 1194 and 1220, a remarkably short span for medieval cathedrals. It has a ground area of 117 058 square feet (10 875 m²). Great trip plann

Cathedral City Considers Alcohol Ban at City Events
No one at city hall can remember any problems related to alcohol at public events, but Cathedral City, Calif., officials say they are going to consider a measure to ban drinking at city sponsored events.City officials say they worry about children seeing adults drinking alcohol at summer festivals and at the annual Chistmas Tree lighting ceremony. Some businesses say the ban could hurt attendance, while others say the ban would make for more family friendly events.Current laws do not prohibit consumption of alcohol by adults at public events in Cathedral City. While no one is exactly sure where the measure came from or why it is needed, comments from politicians in the local media make it sound likely the bill will be passed. It is just the sort of measure that works in the opposite direction of its intent. If there are no problems currently with alcohol consuming adults at public events, it would appear that children and new legal age drinkers are actually getting exposed to responsib

To the Top of the Cathedral
I'm terribly afraid of heights. Most people who know me, learn this fairly quickly. There have been times I have been faced with this fear. Most recently was this past weekend (Friday to be specific).Tony invited me to go with him to the flower show at the Washington National Cathedral. Last year he went and had a blast and I was really looking forward to it, so we drove up to his parents' house in Warrenton on Thursday and went to the flower show the next morning. We wandered around for a while (during which time, Tony suggested I think about going up in the bell tower with him). After we finished lunch at a nearby restaurant, Tony said we should head back to the Cathedral if we were going to climb the bell tower. I was still a little nervous since he said that last year, a member of his family who is not known for a fear of heights became apprehensive on the second set of stairs. In the end, he convinced me to climb the first set of stairs and look at the next set to see if

My house is closer to downtown Cathedral City than it is to downtown Palm Springs, even though I live in Palm Springs. This photo is a longer exposure at night of the fountain in downtown Cat City (we call it Cat City here). Colorful Cathedral
I like this illustration primarily because of the great angle which brings interest to the overall painting. Drawn from an image from my computer screen, this colorful painting is of a cathedral in Arizona. I made the watercolors more brilliant than shown in the original image and added some salt for a special effect.

St. Pauls Cathedral from Tate Modern
St Pauls from Tate Modern (2.11.05.)11" x 15" pen and ink and coloured pencil in Sketchbookcopyright Katherine TyrrellI think this is one my very favourite views in London. This was my first attempt at sketching this view. My second is in this post.Creating the Tate Modern in the old Bankside Power Station was a brave decision which has proved well worthwhile. However who ever thought of building the Millenium Bridge to create a walkway from St Paul's Cathedral on the hill all the way down and across the River Thames to Tate Modern - with a brilliant view looking back up to St Paul's - was truly inspired!I'm fully intending to do a big work of this view one day! The external terrace attached to the Friends Room at Tate Modern may will be put to good use in this connection as the weather gets warmer. This particular sketch was done on the day after the service in St Paul's Cathedral for those killed, injured and involved in the events of 7th July 2005.Technorati tags: art , col

Ciao, The Cologne Cathedral (German: Kölner Dom), official name Hohe Domkirche St. Peter und Maria) is one of the best-known architectural monuments in Germany and has been Cologne’s most famous landmark since its completion in the late 19th century. The cathedral is under the administration of the Roman Catholic Church and is the seat of the Archbishop of Cologne. Sint Salvator Cathedral in Bruges
I've been confusing myself with spelling because I remembered seeing the Dutch language signs of Brugge but was adding on the "s" from the English version of Bruges.  I looked it up before I started writing this entry.  I was very impressed by my visit to the cathedral of Saint Saviour.  It was brick on the outside and perhaps more Romanesque than Gothic in nature, although with some very elegant window tracery.  On the inside it was huge and just soared.  The side portions were all highly decorated.  The choir stalls had beautiful wood tracings in Celtic knots.  Many of the pillars were painted in patterns, which was a surprise to me, although the paint had worn off near ground level.  Red and yellow were the predominant colors with a little green.  The ceilings of the chapels surrounding the sanctuary were also painted in an assortment of patterns.  Another unusual feature was the art collection.  There were huge paint

His playing reflects his Aussie cultural background and brings to the audience the concept of neo-surf rock. He descries this as I write and perform original compositions that are influenced by every facet of the ocean - angry, heavy and fast tracks inspired by cold, brooding winter swells reminding of surfs alone, and tender songs inspired by sunny offshore days at the local beach with your closest mates.
