'It's not the first time this type of approach has been recommended for a catastrophic pandemic'
The idea is to try to make sure that scarce resources — including ventilators, medicine and doctors and nurses — are used in a uniform, objective way, task force members said. Their recommendations appear in a report appearing Monday in the May edition of Chest, the medical journal of the American College of Chest Physicians. "If a mass casualty critical care event were to occur tomorrow,

Early Iraq withdrawal would be ”catastrophic”: Bush
FORT BRAGG: President George W. 'The results could be a catastrophic warming of the earth'
From: A Storehouse of Greenhouse Gases Is Opening in Siberia by Volker Mrasek Researchers have found alarming evidence that the frozen Arctic floor has started to thaw and release long-stored methane gas. The results could be a catastrophic warming of the earth, since methane is a far more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide. But can the methane also be used as fuel? It's always been a disturbing what-if scenario for climate researchers: Gas hydrates stored in the Arctic ocean floor -- hard clumps of ice and methane, conserved by freezing temperatures and high pressure -- could grow unstable and release massive amounts of methane into the atmosphere. Since methane is a potent greenhouse gas, more worrisome than carbon dioxide, the result would be a drastic accelerati

      The Catastrophic Flaw
It's hubris. It's also a nationalist bunker mentality. These two elements combined make up the recipe for the dish that Gen. Sanchez has tasted and sent back to the kitchen in disgust.WASHINGTON — Retired Army Lt. Gen. Ricardo S. Sanchez, who led U.S. forces in Iraq for a year after the March 2003 invasion, accused the Bush administration Friday of going to war with a "catastrophically flawed" plan and said the United States is "living a nightmare with no end in sight."Sanchez described the current troop increase in Iraq as "a desperate attempt by the administration that has not accepted the political and economic realities of this war."So it is that another sparkling plan to hitch American geopolitical solutions to an uncourtable people is dragged, kicking and screaming, to the junkyard. The real tragedy is twofold: that the realization of failure must come to the tide-turners a posteriori when the lifting of a half dozen book covers would have made prophets of them all; and that

Toba mega-eruption 70,000 years ago, not so catastrophic: study
One of the biggest eruptions in Earth's history some 70,000 years ago, the Toba volcano in Indonesia, was not as much a world climate catastrophe as first thought, a study said Thursday. The Toba eruption, in northern Sumatra, was the strongest felt by the planet in the last two million years, said an international team of scientists. However, the hypothesis that it may have drastically cooled the Earth, killing off most of the human population living at the time, has only been supported by flimsy evidence, they said in a study published Thursday in Science magazine, A series of stone artifacts unearthed in southern India now suggest that local human populations remained in the region after the Toba eruption, the scientists said. The prehistoric tools were found in sedimentary layers sandwiching a layer of ash produced by the Toba eruption. The tools above were essentially at the same level of evolution as those below, the scientists said. The little difference between the two in

      Catastrophic Power Failure
I'm currently dealing with what I deem to be a Catastrophic Power Failure. In my book this a power outage that exceeds the UPS protection with no indication of when the power will return. It seems our local substation has ceased serving us power, someone is one their way but a fixed time cannot be given by the power provider. All the onsite UPS have now exceeded their backup time and powered off taking most of the servers with them and I wasn't onsite at the time to ensure they were shutdown properly.A larger company might be dusting off their DR plans right now but I don't have that luxury, even the coffee machine isn't working - now that is serious.

The Great Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming SCAM !!!
Ok - since I promised long ago to post the stuff I had on CAGW (Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming) CAGW is just another way of saying that Man will cause catastrophic changes to the Earth by releasing CO2).Let me give you a nice image ok??? This;http://www.opinionjournal.com/columnists/pdupont/?id=110009693comes courtesy of Pete Du Pont, former governor of Delaware and Chairman of the National Center for Policy Analysis (http://ncpa.org/)I'll give you a nice quote from it;When Eric the Red led the Norwegian Vikings to Greenland in the late 900s, it was an ice-free farm country--grass for sheep and cattle, open water for fishing, a livable climate--so good a colony that by 1100 there were 3,000 people living there. Then came the Ice Age. By 1400, average temperatures had declined by 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit, the glaciers had crushed southward across the farmlands and harbors, and the Vikings did not survive. Such global temperature fluctuations are not surprising, for looking bac

4th IPCC Report To Show Catastrophic Weather and Drought
In 2001 the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published a report that sent the political world reeling, and made any legitimate skeptic of global warming rethink their position. After the most comprehensive look at global warming science ever performed, the panel found a 100% agreement that global warming was a serious issue affecting our future and that it is unquestionably being caused by human generated greenhouse gases. Much of the political and media debate since then has been an effort for the world to come to grips with the end of global warming debate and start coming up with real solutions. Now the IPCC's 4th report is set for release, and a draft copy released yesterday offers a sneak preview of the scientific consensus surrounding the environmental destruction and unstable weather that will be caused by unchecked climate change.A draft copy of the Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, obtained by The Observer, shows the f

      Catastrophic Hard Drive Failure
No, I'm talking about my computer. Really. My laptop hard drive is toast. It all began last week when Microsoft Word wouldn't save my document. Out of memory? What? I know I'm close to running out of memory, but how would the computer know that? (Har har.) I worked around the error, rebooted and all was well. Well, except for overall sluggishness, so I ran some PC Doctor utilities (I didn't even know I had them until then) and defragmented the hard drive (took seven hours). And who would have thought—it seemed fixed!Seemed. Until yesterday.12:14 pm Kids eating lunch, I decide to check email and maybe put something together for Miss Snark's Crapomiter. But, odd, what's that strange clicking noise? A fan? Not the hard drive. Certainly NOT the hard drive.Flashback to early spring: A refurbished HP desktop, a Christmas gift for my oldest child, and it started acting funny. Hmmm, that's a new error message. I'll reboot and then I'll get our files backed up just in case. S
