New Yorker Cartoonist Accused of Plagiarizing Far Side
Lee Lorenz, a long time artist for The New Yorker, is being accused of plagiarizing a 1984 Far Side cartoon. The New Yorker The Far Side Obviously, the two cartoons are quite similar, but is this really a case of plagiarism?  I’m not sure. Someone would really have to be an idiot to think that they could get away with ripping off a Far Side cartoon.  The Far Side has been around for a long time.  The cartoons have been republished on the web, newspapers, and in books for years.  The more popular cartoons have been made into gift-giving cards, t-shirts, and other merchandise.  Fans know the work backwards and forwards. I could see this happening maybe with a young kid.  But I find it hard to believe that an established cartoonist with a publication as popular as The New Yorker would think that they could do this without getting caught. I think that this is one of the few situations where 2 different cartoonist came up with a similar gag - parallel thinking. One of the edit

Stick to Drawing Comics, Monkey Brain!: Cartoonist Ignores Helpful Advice With all the hype about biographies on cartoonists, this slipped under the radar of sorts. Stick to Drawing Comics, Monkey Brain!: Cartoonist Ignores Helpful Advice by Scott Adams. I’ll tell you one thing, I am not a fan of the Dilbert but I am a fan of Scott Adam’s books and his writing. What he cannot get down in cartoon form, he delivers eloquently in words. I am reading at the moment "Dilbert and the Way of the Weasel", it’s a great read for those in business in a comical perspective of this entrenched cutthroat industry in the cubical world. If you are a fan on Office Space or any genre of office related humor, this book is for you. Scott Adam’s new book is a peek into his candid world and rants from his blog. A very articulate individual who conveys a message of hope in a world that resembles the assembly line of a less restrained "Metropolis" world of

Muslim Group Issues Fatwa AGAINST Killing Swedish Cartoonist
Two Muslim groups denounced al-Qaeda’s death threat against Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilk because he drew a cartoon in which Mohammad’s face was on a dog’s body. Sheikh Al-Baghdadi offered up to $150,000 if someone would split the throat of Vilk “like that of a lamb.” The European Fatwa Council issued a fatwa against such death threats saying,”we are not agreeing with al-Qaeda’s statement. We do not believe someone should be killed for this. That is not Islam.” The European Federation for islamic organizations which is located in 29 countries also joined in opposition to al-Qaeda. One wonders how many American media outlets will feature stories about two important Muslim organizations which oppose persecution of people who defame their religious leader? I am certain the al-Qaeda statement will be given prominence so that most people come to believe all Muslims were offended by the cartoon and seek vengeance against the cartoonist.

Via No Dhimmitude:No Time Limit To Ransom for Cartoonist's HeadBy Michel MoutotPeshawar - In his office in Peshawar's historic Mohabat Khan mosque, prayer leader Maulana Yousaf Qureshi smoothes his beard from the white roots to the henna-orange tips."There's no time limit. If someone kills the cartoonist in 50 years he will still get the million dollars," he says.In a blazing sermon on February 17, Qureshi promised the money - and a new car - to whoever assassinates any of the 12 Danes whose drawings of the Prophet Mohammed ignited a firestorm of protest across the Muslim world. On the same day, anti-cartoon protests in the conservative northwestern city turned into full-fledged anti-western riots that left foreign fast-food joints and businesses in flames. The unrest has abated since then, but not the anger."We want them to spend the rest of their days like prisoners, under police protection," nods the imam, between two sips of sweetened green tea.
