Former State Representative Ted Carpenter briefly announced his bid for President of the United States today. Carpenter, known for his quiet gubernatorial run in 2006, stood on the front stoop of his Phoenix home and announced, “I think I am going to run for President today.”It is unclear if anyone actually heard the announcement. ST Louis Cardinals starter Chris Carpenter who helped lead his team to a World Series championship last year, will undergo Tommy John surgery next week the Cardinals announced on Thursday. Carpenter pitched only once this year giving up five runs in six frames as the RedBirds lost to the Mets on Opening Day. He underwent an arthroscopic procedure in early May to get rid of bone chips in his elbow, but when he tried a rehab start he got swelling and stiffness in the elbow. Tommy John surgery is transplanting a ligament into the elbow, named for the former MLB pitcher who was the first Major League pitcher to have the procedure done. John's career took on a second life after the comeback from the surgery. It usually takes about 18 months for a pitcher to be somewhat effective after the procedure, though recovery times can vary greatly.© Copyright thesackattack.com 2007

Chris Carpenter will miss a turn in the St. Louis Cardinals' pitching rotation due to right elbow inflammation, though the team thinks its ace won't be out long. Carpenter complained of soreness Monday, the day after he struggled in the season opener against the New York Mets. An examination by team physician Dr. George Paletta on Tuesday did not include an MRI, and Carpenter said he thought his elbow already had improved. "I'm not a doctor, but I feel it's a little bit better," Carpenter said. The Cardinals said Carpenter will be evaluated over the next three days. Carpenter allowed five runs in six innings during a 6-1 loss to the Mets on Sunday night. He has been the staff ace the last three seasons after missing most of the 2002 season and all of 2003 following shoulder surgery. Last weekend we happened to go to Lowe's. While we were there, we saw they were having a kids project going on. Craig asked me if Youngest Princess was going to do it. I said that I thought you usually had to preregister for those sort of things. I saw a girl working at it and I asked her. She said, "you don't have to this month, we have extra kits" WOOHOO, Youngest was excited! She got her very own apron and nametag, just like the workers wear, goggles, hammer and her kit. All the tables were full, so we planted our behinds down on the floor. We followed the directions and made a real cute valentine "mailbox" thingy. Youngest had a blast and was very proud of herself. When she was done, she turned in her hammer (got to keep the apron and goggles) and got a certificate of completion and a patch I will sew onto her apron. I didn't have the camera, but I did have a trusty camera phone!
