Tips On How To Relieves From Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
How does it work? Does stress cause carpal tunnel syndrome? Or does carpal tunnel syndrome cause stress? The answer is, it works both ways. When we are in a stressful situation, we tend to assume a specific position. Our head moves forward and our jaw gets tight. We may even hunch up our shoulders. When we move into that position, it sets us up for developing carpal tunnel symptoms. A "forward head"

      Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (Part 2)
This is the second and last part of my article about Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Here I will discuss the risk factors, of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, the ways to treat and prevent it, and some self-care tips for those who are experiencing it.Some studies suggest that Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can result from overuse or strain in certain job tasks that require a combination of repetitive, forceful and awkward or stressed motions of your hands and wrists. Examples of these include using power tools — such as chippers, grinders, chain saws or jackhammers — and heavy assembly line work, such as occurs in a meatpacking plant. Although repetitive computer use is commonly assumed to cause Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, the scientific evidence for this association isn't definitive. Although it's not clear which

      Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (Part 1)
Some people might think that Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a new condition of the information technology age, born from long hours of computer keyboarding. But Carpal Tunnel Syndrome isn't new. Evidence of people experiencing signs and symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome occurs in medical records dating back to the beginning of the 20th century. Bounded by bones and ligaments, the carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway — about as big around as your thumb — located on the palm side of your wrist. This tunnel protects a main nerve to your hand and nine tendons that bend your fingers. Pressure placed on the nerve produces the numbness, pain and, eventually, hand weakness that characterize Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Fortunately, for most people who develop Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, proper treatment u

Ok, I got them wrong, it is not Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Some time ago, I wrote about my speculation on the linkage between Avent Isis and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Well, I got them completely mixed up. Mine is actually SORE TENDON, and it is NOT Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Anyway, I still believe the linkage is there — but to Sore Tendon instead of CTS. I’ve finally went to the company doctor again today and saw a different doctor. She seems more knowledgeable than the previous one that I’ve seen 3 years ago for the same problem. The previous doctor had to refer to reference books when I asked her whether the medicine she prescribed was suitable for breastfeeding mom. As the previous doctor wasn’t sure, instead of admitting it, she discouraged me to breastfeed! (more…)

Does keyboard bashing cause Carpal Tunnel?
You hear a lot about repetitive motion injury in the workplace these days as employers are eager to ensure that their backside is covered legally if staff (especially those in the IT industry) develop a problem such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (or Median Neuropathy at the Wrist). It’s commonly held that typing at the keyboard for hours on end and constantly moving the mouse around is the kind of thing that just has to be bad for your joints. Well, Tech-recipes wrote a post about CTS yesterday in which they quote a pile of studies (see the article for those) and essentially come to this conclusion: The current research shows that computer use has very little role in causing carpal tunnel syndrome. Common medical diseases that are known to cause carpal tunnel are much more likely to blame than any repetitive use injury. That begs the question: Why are we all buying/wearing those wrist protectors? Is it all a scam? Would Penn & Teller be calling “Bullshit” on this o

Avent Isis – Link With Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
I now start to believe the locked wrist that I suffered for 14 months a couple of years ago was linked to the usage of Avent Isis. I refused to believe in that, when I was still a heavy user, while I was still breastfeeding Ian. It started to develop when Ian was nearly 2 months old. I suffered so much, couldn’t even lift up an empty plate, lost the chance of bonding with my son, as I couldn’t carry him since he was a baby. I’ve seen many doctors and finally decided to leave it. After I stopped BFG, it somewhat healed by itself. But I still didn’t associate AI with it, though MIL always suggests that. I only started to believe in it, in the recent trips. After giving birth to Isabel, as my sister bought me the electronic pump Medela PIS, I’ve been using that even for overseas trips. Only for the last 3 (Redang, Beijing, BKK) I decided not to bring the pump and not to transport milk home, so I brought my old AI. On the last day of Redang, I started to feel my right wrist

Tips on Preventing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Occasionally, I feel tingling and numbness in my hand — two possible early signs of developing carpal tunnel syndrome. This is not good news and I’ve begun to take some measures to prevent further complications. Carpal tunnel syndrome develops slowly over time and is believed to be caused by repetitive tasks such as typing (under debate) that compresses your carpal tunnel (located near your wrist on the inside of your hand). It isn’t a debilitating disease but the common treatment for serious CTS right now is open-hand surgery where they cut into your wrist and cut a ligament. That doesn’t really sound like something I’m interested in experiencing so I think I’d rather stick with these quick fixes: Lift your wrists Try to keep your wrists in the air while typing on your keyboard. If not possible, rest it on something soft (the softer the better) to relieve pressure on the carpal tunnel. Don’t sleep with bent wrists Sleeping with your wris
