Rumble: When you think of Venice: Carnival
What else do you think of when hearing "Venice"? Pumuckl commented in a previous post saying: "Carnival"!And she is right! The carnival of Venice was first recorded in 1268, and has been a long tradition since then. Strolling through the alleys of Venice, we came across many shops where they sold the typical Venetian masks, made in leather or with the original papier-mâché technique. The original masks were rather simple in design and decoration. They often had a symbolic and practical function. Nowadays, most of them are made with the application of gesso and gold leaf and are all hand-painted using natural feathers and gems to decorate.A photo impression:View the slideshow of all my Venice pictures.Check out other posts on the Road about Venice.

The May Issue of the Christian Family Information Exchange Blog Carnival
Welcome to the May 9, 2008 edition of the 'Christian Family Information Exchange Blog Carnival'. As we always say, 'it's time to grab a cup of your favorite drink, sit back and read the carnival we have for you'. Since we last met, I have been reading a ton of e-mails, most with either questions on or about how to get their prayers answered. We all need reminding from time to time that God truly does answers each and every prayer, in His time and according to His wishes. If God can be patient with us after all the silly and dopey things we've done, then we need to learn how to be patient with Him and His answers. Please remember that there may just be a reason why your answers are coming as quick as you would like. Think it through and then stop, and remember, yes your prayers work and yes

I think it probably began as the earliest know form of abortion, but when the baby bounced...it was taken as a sign from the gods that tossing babies is a good thing. If you forgot how great Benny Lava is...watch it again.-lava.html

Carnival Cruising To Dividend Growth Territory
I used to think that since it was a capital intensive business, Carnival (CCL) wouldn’t qualify as a classical dividend growth story, but I stand corrected. Carnival is the most dominating global cruise company in the world generating revenues in excess of $13 billion; trouncing the $6 billion eked out by distant second place, Royal Caribbean. [...]

Samba at the Carnival this summer?
We get all manner of stuff into the blog's mail account these days, but if it's promoting the borough then we'll give it a go. The council's Outdoor Events Team wants to run a week-long Samba workshop for local schools, play schemes and community groups later this summer. The idea is to teach youngsters Samba music, how to play instruments and create costumes. The end result will see kids take part at this year's Carnival Parade. So, is there anyone out their involved in Samba that can assist the council and help to develop this? They also need artists and musicians to get involved... .They also want local groups to enter the parade, raise money for charity or get some good PR for their companies/organisations. Remember, the parade is for "Green" vehicles only, or you can push, cycle or pu

Treasure Box Wednesday: Cool Coasters, Covers and Carnival Glass
Oh, I was all over Tarnation this last weekend-- yep, Upper, Lower, and even Little Tarnation, I believe. And while not all of the items I'm going to show you today were thrifted, a few were. Best of all, even the antique mall goodies were had at an excellent price. How fun is that?Well, the first of the antique mall finds, the coasters above, are from the 50s. The magnolia pattern on them, and the cheery aqua, lemon yellow and vintage pink just said to me "backyard barbeque." They remind me of the 50s pastel hotels you see on Miami Beach when the planes fly into Miami International Airport. Anyway, now I'm all set for having a very cheerful retro meal outside this summer. Wanna come? :)Speaking of that retro meal, now I have salt and pepper shakers, to match my Hazel Atlas Moderntone Plat

      QF Carnival #4
It is that time once again to share more testimonies and stories from others. I pray that you are touched and blessed by those who are sharing the work of the Lord in their lives.TF at Made from Scratch shares her journey. She says "I told J what I had been reading, and we read scriptures in the Bible together that concerned having children and trusting God completely, we talked about it and we both knew this was the way we wanted to live. We wanted to show God how much we loved him, We wanted to trust Him in every aspect of our life. Having children shouldn't be any different. I refuse to make excuses anymore. No matter if I have 2 children or 10, I will accept them joyfully, and I won't forget for one second how blessed we are." Read more of her article, Living a Quiverfull lifesty

Let's all go to the Carnival....down the hall.
I like these. It gives you the opportunity to add pattern and color to a monotone kids room. And if your walls are already filled you can hang these from your windows. They look so sweet and whimsical.Of course, I refuse to purchase them. Instead I'm going to attempt to do this on my own. I think it will be a FABULOUS way of using my discarded scraps! They look simple enough. But I'm sort of backlogged with projects so when I get around to it, I'll post my result. If you're more practical. You can purchase them at Mahar Goods.

La Ceiba Gran Carnival, who cares?
Update to my 2008 Carnival article, April 17, 2008: Okay! I give up. I guess the La Ceiba tourism powers-that-be think that enough people come to the Carnaval as it is and don't want anyone else to know about it. Reader Quitos informed me that the "official" carnaval website, linked in the above article, has lost their domain as of April 12. "Typical," he says.It was a pathetic website, not finished last year until May 20, although the 2-week carnival started on May 12, 2007. Some of the events were long over with before they were posted on the website. The site was only available in Spanish, even though articles in the newspaper report that English-speaking tourists spend more than 4 times the amount that Central American tourists do during their stays in Honduras. The schedules of events

      Venice Mask Carnival
Pictures of the Venice Mask Carnival. Masks have been a central feature of the carnival since it was first established in 1268. The most common mask was traditionally the “bauta” - a white, hook-nosed mask worn under a black cape. Covering the whole body, it gives complete anonymity, hiding the wearer’s face, social status and [...]

      COMING ATTRACTIONS: CARNIVAL OF SOULS
Now that we're up and running again it's time to take care of some reader requests. Let's start with one of my favorites, the 1962 cult classic Carnival Of Souls. And just in case there's some confusion, yes, there was a 1998 (alleged) remake produced by Wes Craven whose description begins "A young girl witnesses the brutal rape and murder of her mother by a circus clown..." This is not that film.
