Ryan Adams is one of the most prolific artists working today. Sometimes that's a good thing, sometimes that's a bad thing. On his latest album with the Cardinals, Cardinology, Adams strikes the right balance. Sprinkled amongst the country ditties are some gritty rockers. The Arizona Cardinals have shown that they're serious this year. They've had a lot of talent on their team every year for a long time, but this year they are really showing the heart of a winner. They are now 3-2, in first place in the NFC West.

Just an awesome win. Great game. Tragically, I don't have a ton of time so I'll sum it up real quick:-Gorzo was awful again (at first)--giving up 2 runs in the 1st and 3rd innings. The Cards were spraying lasers all over the ballyard.-It stayed 4-0 through 6 innings because Wainwright was dealing. He had given up one hit through 5.2, and that runner was quickly erased by a double play.-Gorzo manag

You know, the fact that our 1 and 2 starters are looking like automatic losses at this point is not a good thing. Duke, Maholm, and Dumatrait have been solid, but to go over .500 for a five game stretch, we need all three of those guys to pitch well. Unlikely.----Today, the culprit was Ian Snell. Arizona Cardinals#16 OverallDominique Rodgers-Cromartie (CB) Tennessee StateThis was the way to go for the Cardinals. They were dying for a corner. Rodgers-Cromartie was flying up draft boards just a week or two ago so this is a good value at #16. If he can reach his potential Rodgers-Cromartie will be the best CB to come out of this draft. Arizona can get a RB in rounds 2 or 3, no sweat.
[Recap] Tom Gorzelanny needs to get it together. Some think he might be hurt. [Bucs Dugout] Some think he may have lost his mechanics. [WHYGAVS] Whatever it is, we have a problem. We should have seen it coming when Tom walked the game's first hitter on four pitches, but (I at least) kind of forgot about the lack of control when Gorzo put up 4 zeroes in a row. He had a no-hitter and a 1-0 lead heading into the 5th inning. Though he was clearly missing some command, things didn't seem to be going too badly. The 5th was ugly. Tom walked the bases loaded (one of those being to the pitcher--on 4 pitches), then gave up his first hit of the game-a 2 RBI single from strange-looking Rule 5 pick Brian Barton. Pujols knocked home another with a ground ball single. Quickly Gorzo's game had gon
Cardinals (13-9) at Pirates (9-12) 7:05--PNC Park, Pittsburgh Joel Piniero (0-2, 8.10) vs. Tom Gorzelanny (1-2, 9.35) [GameTrax] Will the Pirates stay hot? Will Tom Gorzelanny return to form? Will the all-of-a-sudden hot hitting Pirates actually score some runs off a terrible pitcher? Will anyone show up at PNC Park? Will Nate McLouth regain steam after going hitless(!) for TWO games in a row? Can the Pirates send St. Louis into their first 3 game tailspin all year? Can the Bucs pull off a 3 game win streak (and a mini-sweep)? (That's my best attempt at trying to make this game seem interesting) Let's get straight to some predictions: PREDICTIONS Me: Tom Gorzo has really looked poor this season. I don't feel comfortable picking him to pitch well, and the Bucs always struggl
[Recap] There seemed to be some legitimate enthusiasm for the Pirates going into this game. The losing streak was over and their best pitcher was taking the mound. What could go wrong? Well, he (being Ian Snell) could not have his usual electric stuff and give up 4 runs in a 9-batter 1st inning. Yeah, that was pretty demoralizing. But Snell deserves all the credit in the world for staying calm and never giving in. He tossed 5 innings of scoreless ball after that, making for a respectable outing. Cards starter Todd Wellemeyer did not have any trouble with the first go-round of the Bucco lineup, but the Pirates adjusted the second time. Freddy, Bay, and Doumit strung together three hits to manufacture a run. Nady hit a sac fly to cut the lead to two. Next inning, Fred would get ano
Cardinals (13-8) at Pirates (8-12) 7:05--PNC Park, Pittsburgh Todd Wellemeyer (2-0, 3.24) vs. Ian Snell (2-1, 4.07) [GameTrax] John Russell meets St. Louis for the first time in his managerial career. The Redbirds were supposed to be NL Central bottom-feeders this season, but have gotten off to a surprising start. Wellemeyer in particular has not been good until this season. Albert Pujols is still with Tony LaRussa and St. Louis, and he's off to a .352 start with 4 homers. Ian Snell does not traditionally do well against the Cardinals. A few years back, he actually gave up 3 homers to Pujols IN THE SAME GAME. Think about that. Snell is also coming off his first loss, but he was still solid in a 3-2 defeat at Wrigley. The Pirates don't have good numbers against Wellemeyer either.
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Gabe Kapler has been enjoying a career renaissance, so to speak - especially with his bat. His hot hitting continued Tuesday as his game-winning, run-scoring single in the bottom of the 12th inning helped Milwaukee edge the St. Louis Cardinals 9-8 at Miller Park. The Brewers offense was led by Prince Fielder who had 3 hits and an RBI while Ricky Weeks and Ryan Braun added 2 hits apiece - with Weeks adding a triple, stolen base, 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs while Braun added a double, a run scored and 2 RBIs; Gabe Gross and Kapler had 2 hits each, as well. The winning pitcher for Milwaukee was Seth McClung (1-0) who pitched a scoreless 12th inning, striking out 2. St. Louis was led by Aaron Miles with 4 hits, a run scored and an RBI while Skip Schumaker and Troy Gla
The Brewers lost the opener of a two game set to the Cardinals 4-3 at Miller Park last night. Skip Schumaker doubled home the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning. Derrick Turnbow took the loss for Milwaukee. Rickie Weeks and Ryan Braun each scored a run in the third to tie the game at two, and Corey Hart tripled in a run to tie the game again in the eighth for the Brew Crew. St. Louis snapped a two-game skid to improve to 13-and-7. Milwaukee slipped to 11-and-8. The two teams meet again this afternoon at Miller Park.
After Saturday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals, I think it is safe to say that San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Tim Lincecum has the Cards' number; during his last outing against St. Louis last Sunday, he pitched 6 innings while striking out 11 in a Giants win. Lincecum mastered the Cardinals again, pitching 7 shutout innings, leading San Francisco to the 3-0 shutout of St. Louis. San Francisco was led by Aaron Rowand who went 3-for-4 with a home run, a run scored and 2 RBIs while Jose Castillo added 2 hits, including a double and an RBI. The winning pitcher was the aforementioned Lincecum (3-0); he pitched 7 innings while allowing 6 hits, walking 3 while striking out 5. Closer Brian Wilson picked up his 5th save while pitching a scoreless ninth inning. St. Louis was led by Ski

After homering in his major league debut on Saturday, John Bowker clubbed a two-run shot and drove in four runs yesterday as the San Francisco Giants beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-4, to gain a split of their four-game set at AT&T Park. Eugenio Velez added a two-run single for the Giants, who improved to 5-and-8 on the season. For Bowker, Sunday was just a continuation of his dream-debut in the big leagues. Called up from Triple-A Fresno on Friday, the 24-year-old Sacramento native became just the eighth Giants player in San Francisco franchise-history to homer in his debut when he connected on a solo blast in Saturday's extra-innings loss. Tim Lincecum went the first six innings for the win, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out 11 to move his record to 2-and-0. Joel Pine

Jose Castillo hit an RBI double and Kevin Correia pitched seven-and-two-thirds solid innings as the San Francisco Giants beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 5-1, in the opener of a four-game series at AT&T Park. Aaron Rowand, Rich Aurilia and Bengie Molina each chipped in with RBI singles for the Giants, who have won three straight games to improve to 4-and-6 on the season. The 27-year old Correia scattered five hits while striking out four to move his record to 1-and-1 while Brian Wilson got the final two outs for his second save. Adam Wainwright took the loss, allowing four runs (all earned) on eight hits while striking out six over seven innings of work to fall to 1-and-1. The series continues this evening at 7:15. Barry Zito takes the mound for San Francisco against Kyle Lohse.
The Astros won their home opener Monday, beating the St. Louis Cardinals 5-3 at Minute Maid Park. New shortstop Miguel Tejada endeared himself to fans by hitting a two-run homer in the bottom of the 9th to bring Houston the win. Lance Berkman and Carlos Lee went back-to-back, and J.R. Ughh, following up the Giants with an equally boring team, the Cards. At least they have been able to provide some excellent Razzball choices! And if you were wondering, yes, that's Brian Barton in the picture, because I love his dreads.

Now that I've wiped a bit of egg from my face in picking the Browns to handily (based on the score) beat the Cardinals, here's the game in review:
1st Quarter:
The game began with a miscue, when Derek Anderson - unpressured - threw the ball away to the left side. He was called for intentional grounding, and the Browns had already set off on the wrong foot. After what appeared to be the beginnings of a nice drive, Anderson threw a pick-6, and then aborted a snap shortly thereafter.
I couldn't find a pic of "the boot," so I guess a picture of Leigh Bodden getting burned will do.On the Cardinals' ensuing drive, Kurt Warner threw an incomplete pass that would have brought up fourth down and four - that is, if Leigh Bodden didn't decide to do his best "Phil Dawson" and boot the ball into t
This week, the Cleveland Browns (7-4) head to Arizona this week to take on the Cardinals (5-6). Coming off a strong win at home, the Browns look to narrow the AFC North lead, held by the Steelers. Arizona is coming off a tough overtime loss to a bad 49er team. Despite their record, last weeks loss, and the team's injury problems, home field advantage gave them 1 point the last time I checked.
That must be one hell of a field. I'm not saying that the Browns are going to beat the Cards like rented mules, but that's a lot to overcome.
That being said, let's take a look at the matchups:

By: tix In 2001, once again the Cardinals get off to a terrible beginning at 2-6, as their offense only manages to score 20 points twice; it was the 2 games they won. Typically when the Arizona Cardinals win, it is usually a result of the offensive side of the ball. Not this weekend; cornerback Antrel Rolle’s three interceptions, 2 returned for touchdowns, were the key in Arizona’s win over the Cincinnati Bengals 35-27 at a shell-shocked Paul Brown Stadium.
In the first quarter, both teams scored a TD each; Arizona on Rolle’s first of 3 interceptions, and Cincinnati on a nifty 19-yard pass from quarterback Carson Palmer to wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh, knotting the score at 7. Bengals kicker Shayne Graham would kick 2 field goals in the second quarter, sandwiching a Warner-to-Anquan Boldin 44-yard TD pass, making the score 14-13 Arizona. Another Warner TD pass, this one a 5-yarder to WR Larry Fitzgerald, enabled the Cardinals to take a 21-13 halftime lead.
At 12:59 of the 3rd quarter, Arizona RB Edgerrin James would score a TD from 3 yards out, extending the Cards’ lead to 28-13, but Cincinnati would score twice in

Kurt Warner suffered an elbow injury Sunday and will undergo an MRI exam today, and the results could determine the team’s interest in bringing in another quarterback. After the game, Warner said he had a torn ligament but added that surgery had not been discussed. “We’ll see the extent of it and see what we can do as far as getting me back as soon as possible,” he said. Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt stopped short Wednesday of saying a player who doesn’t practice during the week won’t play on Sunday, but made it clear he’s not crazy about the idea. Wide Receiver Anquan Boldin didn’t play Sunday and sat out Wednesday’s practice. Boldin’s hip injury is improving both is expected to be at least questionable for Sunday’s game in St. Louis. By Jim Corbett, USA TODAY FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Coach Ken Whisenhunt is giving the Cardinals a total face lift in his first season in Arizona — on both sides of the ball. A previously pass-happy offense — the Cardinals were the NFL’s top passing team in 2005 and 10th last year, even though rookie quarterback Matt Leinart started 11 games — is undergoing its share of change as well. One way to effect change is with a commitment to running the ball 55% of the time. A more…
How does one start off what has now amounted to be a HUGE four-game series? Well, if you're Cubs GM Jim Hendry, you do it with a bang, announcing a five-year extension to your best pitcher, making him the highest-paid at his position for at least a couple of years.
Say what you want about Hendry, but sometimes he gets things right. Maybe this will help spark Z the rest of the way, and give the Cubs a boost.
Anyway, on to the dreaded Deadbirds. It's no secret they've been the hottest team in the N.L. Central, and ripped through Milwaukee like Scott Spezio in Bogota. They have Pujols, Edmonds and Rolen, and now all-of-a-sudden gargantuan Rick Ankiel, along with Yadier Molina, who yesterday turned into a home-run machine. So yeah, they're kind of good right now.
However, like all greats, St. Louis has an Achilles' heel, and that's the pitching. With Chris Carpenter and Mark Mulder out, the Cards have had to rely on a ragtag group that includes Kip Wells, Anthony Reyes and today'
When he came to the Cardinals, he was expected to the the teams savior at QB. Now he is just looking to play out his contract and ride into the sunset. After losing the starting QB job last season to Matt Leinart, Kurt Warner has slowley come to accept his role as a backup quarterback in the National Football League. Not that as a former MVP this is easy, but for Warner, it’s the best way to go out with his head held high.
“That’s what I want to do, play out this contract,” Warner said. “And I think after that, then it will be one of those situations where we (he and his wife, Brenda) sit down and decide what’s best. What’s the situation? Do the Cardinals want me to stay around longer than that? Does that fit into our plans? Do I really want to go somewhere else, move the family?”
Warner will be 37 years old when his contract is up after the 08 season, meaning a starting job or even a backup job in the NFL might be a stretch. S
