Bubbles, fireflies and a cardboard box. No, this isn't some crazy science experiment. They are simply some of the great (and free) things that can make up a kid's summer day. Ok, so maybe they all aren't exactly free, but they sure are darn close to it. And certainly much cheaper than many of the other ways to entertain your kids.Just about a year ago I posted about this great list that I foun

In my hometown of Mobile, AL, we have growing litter problem in our streets, sidewalks, parks, etc. City leaders have tried to appeal to people’s pride in the city to help with the litter problem in the past. That didn’t work. They tried “Litter Pickup Day” downtown. That didn’t fare too well either. Entire Boy Scout troops have spent many a Saturday just picking up litter downtown.
While Donna suggests this for a birthday party, I love it as something to keep the kids busy on a rainy day or when I hear those "I'm boreds" coming up.
HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
Large cardboard box tall enough for a young birthday child to comfortably stand inside. (An appliance box from your local hardware or appliance store or a wardrobe box from a moving company work well.)

An administrative office handling the details of patients at Staten Island University Hospital, in New York, has lost a computer with information on 88,000 patients. Surprisingly, the theft happened four months ago, but is only being announced today. What’s also surprising is that the suspect was able to snag the computer—no word on whether it was a laptop (not that it would matter)—with the help of a cardboard box: he popped the computer into the box and strolled out the door.
I’m inclined to believe that the computer was a desktop just because the box was used—and another prime example why the medium doesn’t matter. That is, people raise the issue of sensitive data being stored on laptop computers, but this is really a non‑issue, as I keep pointing

A car gets a flat on the interstate one day.
The blonde driver eases it over onto the shoulder of the road, carefully steps out of the car and opens the trunk.
She takes out two cardboard men, unfolds them and stands them at the rear of the vehicle facing on coming traffic.
The lifelike cardboard men are in trench coats exposing their nude bodies and private parts to approaching drivers.
Not surprisingly, the traffic becomes snarled and backed up.
It isn't very long before a police car arrives.
The officer, clearly enraged, approaches the blonde of the disabled vehicle yelling, "What's going on here?"
"My car broke down, officer" says the woman calmly.
"Well, what the hell are these obscene cardboard pictures doing here by the road?" he asks.
"Helllooooooo!! !!" says the blonde.

Looking to purchase cardboard boxes online then you need a company that holds cardboard boxes in stock. Simply Boxes has a dedicated page of cardboard boxes that can be bought online - you simply pay using the HSBC payment engine. If you require your own bespoke sized cardboard box and you use a quantity that is more than 250 then you can have the cardboard boxes made to order. This usualy takes around 7 to 10 working days to deliver. The corrugated materials available are vast. The material will depend on the size of the box, the weight of the box contents, the usage of the box (ie how many you will stack on top of each other) and the cost of the contents. If you are looking to buy cardboard boxes that are of a size unique to your product then contact Bladen Box Ltd.
My Cardboard Box - How many toys, what type of toys, how many computer games, how many special trips, how much T.V., or how many new toys does one child need? All of these questions seem to be constant on every parent's mind today that I needed to recount my cardboard box. You see, when I was a kid, I didn't have all these new toys that parents are told today that they need by all those advertisers. As ridiculous as it sounds, sometimes people who suck at sports feel the need to make up their own -- I assume this is how dodgeball got started -- or they took to heart the child acronym K.I.S.S. (keep is simple stupid) when inventing this new sport.
Here are the rules:
1. Don't break your tube. In a duel, the last person with an unbroken tube is declared the winner.
2. No stabbing. Lunges involving tubes are never allowed under any circumstances.
3. Try not to work the face. Hitting people in the face is heavily frowned upon and can force your ejection from the event.
4. Once your tube is broken you must stop fighting.
5. You may not block your opponents tube with your arms, hands or legs.
Actually, despite appearances and adult-like anticipations, this is a highly disciplined, well, maybe not highly, but at least somewhat disciplined play battle ... aka the opportunity to whack the daylights out of another adult and not get into trouble.
I wonder if pillow fighting will ever ca

By: Eric Starr First, lets examine the three basic groups: ATA Cases These "ultimate protection" cases are usually custom built from plywood. They feature special recessed latches, heavy duty hinges and are typically covered outside with a waterproof laminate and lined inside with thick foam cut to fit the shape of item being transported. To qualify as an ATA Case, the case must conform to the Air Transport Association's Specification 300 requirements. The material and manufacturing methods meet or exceed the ATA case specifications. The tests involved with becoming ATA 300 compliant are conducted to ascertain if an ATA shipping case will withstand the rigors of being shipped a minimum of 100 times. These cases are very expensive. Unless you are touring with a major act, where the Road Crew stacks tons of equipment into the tractor trailer rigs, these are probably too big and too heavy to be practical and fit into the vehicle you normally use to transport your equipment. There’s just something about this build it yourself playhouse designed by Nume that we love.
Perhaps it’s the playfulness that appeals, or perhaps it’s the fact that, in being constructed of cardboard, children can let their imaginations run free and, armed with a marker pen or paints, decorate their own min home within a home to their heart’s content.
Known as House 1, the self assembly children’s playhouse measures in at 35.5” x 39.25” x 46” and comes complete with opening windows and door (though further windows and doors ought to be easy to add with the careful use of a sanely knife).
House 1 retails for $149 inclusive of ground shipping to US and Canadian addresses though we’re unable to establish whether the cardboard used in its construction is recycled (still, as far as disposal is concerned, with a little care it undoubtedly offers the potential to be more green than most other children’s playhouses).

Look up that hill- it’s a cop, it’s a cop with a radar… no, it’s a cardboard cut out of a cop with a radar!!! This is no joke, y’all- in Pflugerville, it has been reported that the police department has implemented cardboard cutouts of officers pointing radars at traffic to slow things down.
This has to be the most hilarious thing ever- we know that empty police cars parked on roadsides slow things down, but a cardboard cutout? I bet that countless UT dorm rooms will soon be decorated with stolen cutouts- this is hilarious! Great thinking, Pflugerville.
I just hope that when we drive through and see your fake officers that we don’t swerve dangerously like we did last time we saw a cop standing away from his car with a radar and mistook him for a darkly dressed person with a gun attempting to shoot and kill drivers.
Not only does it seem to be an unnecessary distraction, I think too many kids will be stealing them. The solution seems

From Buzzfeed: People battling using cardboard tubes now have an official league. As ridiculous as it sounds, sometimes people who suck at sports feel the need to make up their own. We assume that's how dodgeball was invented.

Sadly, I must admit, this looks like fun.
This isn’t usually the kind of topic that I post about, but when I read this story I couldn’t help myself.
A man breaks into a 61 year old woman’s house in Chester and begins to raid her jewelry box. Sharon Neville, who is upstairs sewing, hears the noise and runs downstairs with a rather unique weapon of self-defense.
she beat him up with a hard cardboard tube that had materials wrapped around it and chased him out of her house.
Not only that but she got his plate number and police were able to catch him a short time later.
Good for her! Let’s just hope that in today’s day and age the woman isn’t prosecuted for excessive force or assault with a deadly weapon or anything stupid like that. You never know.
Imagine a foot bridge that spans a river and is made from card board! The very fact that it is made from card board and is by a river should be enough to make you think; I mean water plus card board equals and big mess.
Yet this is exactly what architect Shigeru Ban has done, over the Gardon River in the South of France. This is an ingenious idea to show that you do not need concrete, steel and glass to build a structure.
The bridge is made up from 281 cardboard tubes, the steps are made from recycled paper and plastic and the whole structure is resting on a foundation of wooden boxes that have been packed tight with sand, which makes it strong enough to carry twenty people at a time.
Unfortunately the bridge is only a temporary land mark, and is due to be taken down in six weeks time, before the rainy season starts. See they always forget about the rain!

Believe it or not, I get 2 to 3 emails per week asking if I know what some long-lost candy from someone’s childhood is. Previously, I had been answering the ones I knew and posting a few of the ones I didn’t. From now on, I will collect all of these emails each week and post them on Monday in one “Name That Candy” post. So here are two from last week:
Samantha M. writes:
I’m seventeen. I remember a candy I used to eat when I was about eight or nine. I can’t remember what the package was made out of, but the candy itself was on a little thin cardboard thing. The candy was sort of gummy, and was made in a cool design that you could pull off the cardboard thing almost like long, string stickers. I don’t remember the colors, but for some reason I think each one may have been multicolored, and I think at least one kind of them was blue and red.
I live in Minnesota, but I’m quite sure that it wasn’t only a local candy. I think th
Chopped cardboard, softened in an industrial chemical and made tasty with pork flavoring, is a main ingredient in batches of steamed buns sold in a Beijing neighborhood, state television said. The report, aired late Wednesday on China Central Television, highlights the country's perennial problems with food safety despite continuing government efforts to improve the situation.Countless small, often illegally run operations exist across China and make money cutting corners by using inexpensive ingredients or unsavory substitutes. They are almost impossible to regulate.China Central Television's undercover investigation report features the shirtless, shorts-clad maker of the buns — called baozi — talking about how the product was sold in a neighborhood in Beijing's sprawling Chaoyang district.Source: CBS NewsTechnorati Tags: china cardboard bun
