First and foremost, somehow we managed to accidentally turn off users’ ability to comment on posts some time back. Looks like the new group of owners who took over Capitol 1524 back in October of 2007 will be renaming the store Rock Paper Scissors. Only speculation, but a good guess based on the following. The current web address, rpslife.com, forwards to the stores blog. So, I'm pretty sure they'll be rebranding the store and name. Secondly, the application of the RPS logo went up on the windows. The program allows for people to order flags that have been flown over the Capitol building along with a Certificate of Authenticity with an inscription of your choice. 17-year old Paul Larochelle ordered a flag to present to his grandfather after he (Paul) had been inducted into the Eagle Scouts. The note that he had requested on the certificate was, “this flag was flown in honor of Marcel Larochelle, my grandfather, for his dedication and love of God, country and family.” The office of the Architect of the Capitol, who sends these flags out, removed the word “God” from this certificate. However when Andrew Larochelle requested one for his grandfather, he was in for a surprise. It was requested by Andrew that the certificate of authenticity accompanying the flag read: This flag was flown in honor of Marcel Larochelle, my grandfather, for his dedication and love of God, country and family. Apparently this was too much to ask from a congress where the Democratic Party reigns with majority. Ten days ago I returned from a year and a half living in rural El Salvador. I initially went with Peace Corps but had a “falling out” with them. The bureaucracy wasn’t what I had expected and I wasn’t too sad to be disassociated with them. Before that happened though I met a certain young lady, namely Christine Carey from Spokane, Washington who was also part of the “falling out”. I’d go into the details of what happened if it weren’t so convoluted, bizarre, and infuriating that it could take up several posts on its own. Frankly, I’m also just tired of talking about it. The separation from Peace Corps would end up being for the best as I wasn’t particularly keen on spying for the state department anyway. So… I went over to Take Back the Capitol! to check out what’s billed as a liberal grassroots video campaign to supposedly help the Democrats win next week. It’s an interesting video… no harm in watching it, but it doesn’t really say much. It’s a montage of a bunch of folks offering sound bites for a couple seconds saying things like they need to take back the capitol and get the Republicans out of power, with the obligatory comments about the evils of Iraq thrown in. If they’re trying to create buzz, or just get folks to vote based on sound bites, I guess it meets that purpose. If they’re looking to engage voters who want to spend a minute to look at facts… move right along, not much to see here. (this is a sponsored blog post)
