      Cape Town Car Rental
In my personal opinion the best way to travel is by car. So when my friend, Greg, and I decided to go on a trip down to Cape Town we decided that car rental would be the first on our ”must-do” list. We opted for a small hatchback to zip around on our trip from Cape Town to Hermanus and back to the Cape winelands. On the road We wanted to go to Hermanus for two reasons. First and foremost to go visit my old and dear friend Michelle, and secondly for the Whale festival. The drive from Cape Town to Hermanus is beautiful. Scenic views as you drive Sir Lowry’s mountain pass filled with flowers, then small farmhouses and the occasional shop where you can buy some of the fresh farm produce that you would never be able to get in the city. So we stopped at Aunt Millie’s Farm Stall. Known for

Cape Town Car Rental Tips To Get You Started
Why is a Cape Town car rental the most economical and convenient way to see the city, particularly if you are traveling together with a partner, family or group? For starters, public transportation around Cape Town and the surrounding area is at best time-consuming and at worst, downright dangerous. The costs of taking private taxis or arranging guided tours quickly mount up for larger parties. In addition, tour company timetables may not fit your schedule. For all these reasons, Cape Town car rentals make the most sense for a Cape Town vacation.6 Tips to Get You StartedDrivers license Any person who will be driving the rental car will need an international driver's license if they do not have a South African one. In addition, the international license must be written in English. Requestin

Or stay in the city centre and soldier on towards the Castle of Good Hope (Buitenkant and Strand streets), a pentagonal fortification built by the Dutch between 1666-1679 and South Africa's oldest surviving building. Try to catch a ghostly glimpse of Anne Barnard, the castle's former first lady whose apparition is said to haunt certain sections of the ramparts, with daily guided tours offered to the dungeons and torture rooms.

      The Angels of Cape Town
From 2002 until 2004, I worked for the airlines. My favorite fringe benefit was the flight benefits afforded to employees. One of my travels included a journey to Cape Town, South Africa, in May 2003. The most memorable part of my Cape Town trip was not the stunning views of Table Mountain, whose summit is dwarfed by cloud cover, known as “The Table Cloth” to the locals. Nor was it the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, which emanated a deep sense of tranquility into me, even when it was packed with tourists. Neither was it the pilgrimage I made to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela spent most of his time as a political prisoner. The most memorable event from my Cape Town odyssey unfolded over the course of the first evening. Because I had traveled to Cape Town ’standby’, I didn’t want to commit to any sleeping arrangements. I figured there would be no problem finding inexpensive and safe accommodations somewhere in the downtown area, blindly assuming tha

Cape Town as an ideal destination for Europeans
And this sort of lifestyle is in fact the norm in every Northern European city, and certainly for most of Europe in general. It’s a lifestyle I was initially exposed to in Holland, and partly in England. As wonderful as this lifestyle may be, South Africa, and Cape Town in particular, is by far the better place to live. Most people I have spoken with, who are non-South African, agree with my sentiments. We have some problems, like all countries do, but these problems are manageable. At least I believe they are. And so did most Europeans.

Suggested Itineraries: Cape Town, South Africa
With its breathtaking scenery, fascinating culture and turbulent past, Cape Town and its surrounding environs has enough sightseeing opportunities to keep a curious traveler busy for at least a month. But for those of us who aren’t fortunate to be blessed with unlimited vacation days, I have compiled a list of the top “must sees and must dos” in one of South Africa’s most fascinating cities. The view from Table Mountain, Cape Town Cape Town Hop-on Hop-off Bus. Normally I’m a huge proponent of hoofing it through a city (sans map, of course!) to get the lay of the land. And while it is possible to navigate certain areas of Cape Town on foot, quite often poorly maintained sidewalks and crazy drivers make this an uncomfortable (and sometimes dangerous) option. Fortunately, the hop-on hop-off bus is a perfect solution, with great views from the top level of the double-decker buses and stops at must-see museums, attractions & lookout points throughout the city

      OpenCoffee comes to Cape Town
Since the first OpenCoffee Club in London on the 1st March this year, Saul has been trying to get me to start one in Cape Town. Unfortunately I’ve spent so much time travelling and running around on both work and thankfully holiday missions over the past couple of months that the opportunity never materialised. Fortunately Eric is a proactive chap and has organised Cape Town’s first OpenCoffee meeting for this Thursday. The OpenCoffee club it seems was the brain child of Philip Wilkinson but is driven entirely by ex-Skype Marketing VP (and South African!), Saul Klein. It began in London as an open forum for networking entrepreneur’s and investors in a way that reminds me of First Tuesday except with a far more open source or unconference vibe. I remember chatting to Nic about the first one which he attended and the feeling then was that it really had potential to grow into something great. Turns out he was right and thanks to Saul, after only 6 weeks it has already s

More 2010 troubles in Cape Town
A war of words broke out yesterday between Cape Town mayor Hellen Zille and Western Cape Premier Ebrahim Rasool over the proposed Green Point 2010 stadium. An angry Rasool earlier in the day called on Zille to summon an urgent council meeting to rectify what he said was an error threatening the already-fragile construction timetable for the R2.5bn project. He told journalists that instead of itself giving formal consent for the building of the stadium, the council had incorrectly referred the decision to provincial planning MEC Tasneem Essop. Last week chairperson of the 2010 Local Organising Committee Irvin Khoza warned that if construction did not start in January, Cape Town could kiss its World Cup semi-final goodbye.
