United States 39: Cape Cod Rail Trail
Location: Brewster, Eastham, Orleans, and Wellfleet, MassachusettsDate: June 19, 2007From this trip, AC wanted beach, and I wanted marsh. Surprisingly, the Cape Cod Rail Trail accommodated to both needs.Along Cape Cod Rail TrailCape Cod Rail Trail is a twenty-two mile long path made by paving over part of Old Colony Railroad Company's Cape Cod line. In 1873, Old Colony Railroad Company’s rails stretched from Boston all the way to Provincetown. Trains transported passengers in and out of Cape Cod on this line until 1960s. But now it is only for cyclists and passengers.AC, DP, SO, SY, and I started our adventure along the trail by renting bicycles in Eastham. Then we biked north until we reach the Cape Cod Rail Trail's northern end - Lecount Hollow Beach. Lecount Hollow Beach is a qu

      Cape Cod

The ultimate family guide to Cape Cod
Hermit crabs, mussels, and fireflies. Scents of salty air, freshly mowed grass, and honeysuckle. Going barefoot and swinging in a hammock. Days filled with long bike rides, sandcastles, and mini golf. Evenings spent watching drive-in movies and amateur baseball games. More: continued here

Cape Cod: Where I turned 30.
Cape Cod Dunes Some may say that nominating oneself for traveler of the week is a bit tacky. I say, bite me. You have a better traveler of the week nomination? Leave a comment (minus points for you if you nominate the guy who flew with TB). As you know from other posts, I’d rather travel than have a party to celebrate my birthday, and even though this birthday was a big one, it was no exception. I usually shy away from the beach vacation, but I really needed a break and some time doing nothing but staring at clouds and eating lobster rolls. So last weekend we headed out to Cape Cod. I want to say we did a lot, saw a lot and have a ton of great pictures. The reality is we did very little, saw mostly sand and sky, and didn’t even take many pictures. Which was perfect. The highlight of the trip was taking a water taxi from Chatham to the small dune of South Beach. The boat drops you off and asks what time you want them to come back, then you’re on your own with t

      Kayak Shop: Cape Cod Kayak
My favorite Kayak shop on the Cape is Cape Cod Kayak. And I know I am very biased because I worked there for a while but it really is a great shop. Kim, the owner and head guide, is a great person and very knowledgeable of Kayaks and Kayaking. She also knows where to go in the Mashpee, Falmouth, Sandwich, and Bourne as well as many towns within the area of those named towns.Cape Cod Kayak also has a very nice event each summer and that is the lobster bake. There is also a unique event that Cape Cod Kayak hosts called the On Water Scavenger Hunt. This event is a lot of fun and is also a fund raiser for The Michael Fernandes Charity Foundation. If you want to participate contact Cape Cod Kayak and get at least $50.00 in pledges. My wife and I participated in the first On Water Scavenger Hunt a few years ago. We had an absolute blast. The Cape Cod Kayak shop is conveniently located on 28A in Cataumet right next door to a fantastic Ice Cream Shop called Somerset Creamery. So stop over, chec

Sunday 10th September: Cape Cod National Seashore
The Path to Nauset Beach 10.09.06. 5.50pm8" x 10", pen and sepia ink and coloured pencil in Moleskine sketchbookcopyright Katherine Tyrrell Sunday morning I drove 130 miles down the 495 to Chatham on Cape Cod where the Sally Strand Pastel Workshop was to be held, starting on Monday. Driving in a new place is quite exciting but can sometimes be very slow. Once over the bridge to Cape Cod, I drove south to Hyannis and tried to drive along what looked like a coast road but wasn't. It was also more touristy than I was expecting and when I turned nearer the coast I found out very quickly just how easy it is to get mixed up and lost on Cape Cod. There are endless small roads that twist and turn and I was very glad I'd borrowed my cousin's map of the Cape Cod area as I'd have been well and truly driving round in circles for hours without it! And I'm used to roads that aren't on a grid systems and don't go in a straight line! Once I'd got to where I was staying in North Chatham
