It is very hard when someone we know is facing an alcohol and drug addiction problem. Many people who have this kind of problem oftentimes refused to acknowledge that they are having this kind of problem. It is usually the family and close friends who are compelled to take responsibility in letting the person be aware of his problems and help the person take concrete steps in starting the healing process.Sometimes drug and alcohol problems are just outward manifestations of a deeper problem that needs to be addressed. Most often it involves emotional and mental health problems. These problems can definitely occur together with substance addictions. This dual occurrence can be very difficult to determine if the facility or the people treating the patient are not well-equipped in addressi

We posted on Canyon Villas in Aliso Viejo not too long ago, but little did we know the builder was planning to come out with this gem of an ad in the Register on Sunday (click on the image above to enlarge). To sum it up, they are offering: HOA dues, property taxes, FasTrack tolls and gas, all for one year. Anything else they missed? How about utilities? Maid service? Food delivery once a week? 'Cause it's obvious that mutilating the price (or, in reality, pricing the units to market) is still a no-no.How would you feel if you paid full price for one of these units?"Hurry! Only 26 homes remaining." After how many years again? Heck, the "big auction" was a year and a half ago. Federal judge blocks uranium company's test near Grand Canyon
A federal judge has blocked a British mining company from exploring for uranium near the Grand Canyon, agreeing with environmental groups which sued the U.S. Forest Service for approving the plan without full environmental reviews. The Sierra Club, Grand Canyon Trust and Center for Biological Diversity sued the Forest Service last month for allowing VANE Minerals Group to drill at up to 39 locations on seven sites on the Kaibab National Forest. The company is seeking commercial quantities of uranium, which has soared in price in recent years and resulted in a wave of new development. U.S. District Judge Mary Murguia in Phoenix issued a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction stopping the drilling late Friday after a hearing, said Sandy Bahr, conservation outreach di

Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone - Yellowstone National Park
The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone is the primary geologic feature in the Canyon District of Yellowstone National Park. It is roughly 20 miles long, measured from the Upper Falls to the Tower Fall area. The canyon is up to 900 feet deep and a half mile in width. The colors in the canyon are also a result of different iron compounds. When the old geyser basin was active, the "cooking" of the rock caused chemical alterations in these iron compounds. Exposure to the elements caused the rocks to change colors. The rocks are oxidizing or rusting. The colors indicate the presence or absence of water in the individual iron compounds. Most of the yellows in the canyon are the result of iron present in the rock rather than sulfur. The falls are erosional features formed by the Yellowstone River as

After seeing the documentary, I'm anxious to go on a future trip down to Phantom Ranch and rafting on the river. The 3-D film was inspiring to watch, as the river rapids surged in your face and the sun radiated off the rock cliffs formed by the river. The rafting trip through the Canyon is led

Here’s one of my other photos I took the last time I was at the Grand Canyon — the other one I’ve shown is the “Sunset Flames“. This particular photo was taken minutes before the flames picture while the sun was still partly above the horizon. I thought it was interesting how the face of the cliff lit up the way it did. I was also pretty impressed with the clouds in the sky and the way they were reflecting the light and color. In-Camera JPEG It actually looked alright, but I knew there was more color in those clouds. Processed RAW Warmed it up a bit, brought back the color in the sky, and I opted for less contrast to start with. I also cropped out some of the foreground and put the horizon right in the middle of the frame. Good idea? Bad Idea? What do you think? B&W Conversion I’ve heard this mentioned a few times, so I thought I’d try it out. I converted to B&W using an adjustment layer with the intent of processing the photo

About tens years ago my family drove from California to Indiana. We went 50 miles out of our way so we could see the Grand Canyon which we hadn't seen before. You can go right to the edge where there is safety rails, you can really look right down into all of it. I remember looking down and having a real physical feeling of vertigo. I thought I was seeing the bottom, then I realized no...thats the bottom. It really is DEEP and it can play tricks on your depth perception. But beautiful beyond belief. As you see in this picture, we met some people from Japan who just thought our boys were adorable and they wanted a picture with an "American Family." It was so cute, they really liked holding our youngest son Alec who at the time was 4 and thought they were nuts. But he made it through and provided for a fun memory. (of which I'm thankful to have)I hope you watch the aerial footage and visit the links I've included. EVERYONE should at least see the Grand Canyon even if it is in photograp

      Walnut Canyon National Monument
Walk in the footsteps of people who lived at Walnut Canyon more than 700 years ago. Peer into their homes, cliff dwellings built deep within canyon walls. The presence of water in a dry land made the canyon rare and valuable to its early human inhabitants. It remains valuable today as habitat for plants and animals. See for yourself on trails along the canyon rim and into the depths. My family and I visited Walnut National Mont. about 10 years ago. You can still see finger prints dried in the mud/clay from 700 years ago. It is one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

With the Seniors to Bryce Canyon
Yesterday was a long day. I went with the Senior Citizens from the Enterprise Senior Center to Bryce Canyon National Park.It was about 170 miles each way and took nearly three hours to get there. We had lunch at Ruby's Inn a delightful destination resort. They've been open since before Bryce Canyon was declared a National Park. All told, there were seven of us including Bev (my roommmate) and myself. She drove us to all the major "points" so we could get out and explore the sites. I'll get pictures posted within the week.Having left the house shortly after sunrise (before 8AM) we didn't arrive home again until shortly before sunset (7:30 PM).Click here! Shady Canyon Rollbacks
Big money goes around the world Big money take a cruise Big money leave a mighty wake Big money leave a bruise Big money make a million dreams Big money spin big deals Big money make a mighty head Big money spin big wheels Sometimes building ivory towers Sometimes knocking castles down Sometimes building you a stairway Big Money — Rush Link to Music Video The high end is immune, right? There are not many properties in Shady Canyon, and even fewer on which I can find the purchase information; however, there are three rollbacks sighted so far. Will there be more on the way? The first of this is Mark McQuire’s old place. This property is the market leader on the way to the bottom. The price was just reduced again. The flipper is looking at a loss of nearly a million dollars after commissions. That property is clearly leading in our race to the bottom, but the two properties we have today are working to catch up. Asking Price: $3,998,000 Income Requirement: $999,500 Down

And it gets as freaky as possible: lyrics in various languages, several kind of different instruments, psychedelic melodies, … . You hear a lot of influences, for instance of Latin music and of 60’s music. Although he integrates a lot of different ‘gimmicks’, his songs do sound quite calm and mellow. A lot of emotion goes underneath a big load of weirdness, but in the end, all these things don’t cover up for the easily forgettable melodies. Seahorse is the best song on this album in my opinion. Camping in Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks
After a five-hour haul up to Sequoia National Park with a tent and cooler stuffed for a weekend camping sojourn in big-tree country, you wouldn't dream of pulling into Lodgepole campground at dusk without a reservation. More than 200 chock-a-block campsites occupy this unofficial Mission Control for car campers in one of the country's most popular parks. And on a warm evening in late summer, with the world's largest tree hulking just minutes down the road and a 20% chance of isolated thunderstorms hovering somewhere above the western Sierra, you can bet that every one of them will be occupied by a friendly family grilling slabs of meat under a dome of cloudless sky.

      Grand Canyon and Skywalk Tours
The question I am posing — to visit or not to visit the Grand Canyon Skywalk when you’re heading to the Grand Canyon and/or taking a Grand Canyon tour. The Grand Canyon, on a tour from Las Vegas First, my bias in all this: I have never been to the Grand Canyon. And I am starting to plan the - storied? cliche? inevitable? - family trip to Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Arizona and the southwest. So I wanted some good, actionable, honest travel advice. My reputation as a ‘dad’ and a ‘husband’ are at stake. It would be our first major family road trip, so I cannot mess it up. (Or else.) Step 1: Ask people who know I work at a travel company, so I asked some of our staff. They all agreed on a few things — tour the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas, if you’re planning a summer trip with kids, because the Grand Canyon itself gets hot. As in, HOT HOT HOT. Fair enough, seems like good advice. I love Vegas, it doesn’t take much to convince m

Devendra Banhart - Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon
Recorded in Topanga Canyon in the Santa Monica mountains. Neil Young lived there while recording "After The Gold Rush" and the area has also been home to Emmylou Harris, Taj Mahal, Joni Mitchell, Mick Fleetwood, and members of The Doors. Those ghosts inhabit the sound and vibe of these recording sessions. Banhart's whole "freak folk" tag is gone, replaced with this classic, gorgeous rock album. Some songs are fragile and solipsistic, others have a pronounced tropicalia influence, and still others are wildly electric and epic.

Technorati tags: Turism, turismo, mexico, estados+unidos, Grand Canyon

      Glenwood Canyon Photos
For my friends and strangers over at misc.transport.road -  some photos of interstate 70 as it winds Glenwood Canyon, Colorado. I haven’t visited or posted to this group in a while, but there is a usenet board full of folks who are interested in roads, highways, and general infrastructure.  If you’ve ever wondered about arcane topics like font styles on overhead signs, new versus old gantry design, and why highways and freeways are numbered the way they are it’s worth a visit.  And like any good message board there’s plenty of heated arguments and flame wars too.  I’m more into trains and aviation, but it’s very impressive to see the way flyovers and interchanges are designed and put together.  Especially if you’ve ever navigated the 105/110 interchange in south Los Angeles. Even if you’re not into it, it wouldn’t hurt for more people to go take photos of bridges, airports, and train stations in order to ensure your right t

      Review: Palm Spring’s Canyon Parks
I like to hike as much as the next guy — I suppose. It is quite a different activity when you are in blistering heat and have not been blessed with an adequate amount of melanin. That said, I would say consider hiking throughout the band of canyons (Palm, Tahquitz, Murray, Andreas, et al.), nestled in the outskirts of Palm Springs, during the cooler months. We experienced the Palm Canyon during the month of July (we really need to stay out of the desert in the summer months, there’s a reason these resorts drop their rates then). In hindsight, the Tahquitz Canyon probably would have been a better pick with its refreshing 60′ waterfall. For those of you who are avid hikers and/or very outdoor-sie types, you will really enjoy this any time of the year. I think part of the problem for us was we did not take the guided tour (general admission $8 + $2/3 bucks for the hour long guided tour), I think our experience would have been very different. As far as the level of diffi

Camping in the Yakima River Canyon - 07.20.07
My daughter and I planned a weekend of camping in between the two day trip to the Quilomene area with the Northwest Backroad Drivers group. As luck would have it, the camping trip did not pan out as I would have hoped for. But we still had fun. After a late start getting out of town, we finally made Ellensburg, Washington around 8:00 PM on Friday night. Not a lot of time to find a camping site, especially on Friday night. I spotted some campgrounds on the Yakima River in the Washington Road & Recreation Atlas south of Ellensburg in the canyon, so we headed that direction. (more…)

      Grand Canyon
We've made it as far as the Grand Canyon, on this adventure. A relatively uneventful trip, although Amy has decided she should stop wearing miniskirts, as they ride up on her in the car, and she feels the truckers have been seeing too much. Makes her feel like one of those white-trash truckstop flashers. She's got one on again today though, so I guess yesterday's resolution was more of a

Coming Soon: Canyon Ranch Living Hotel, Spa & Condos Miami Beach
Today I went to a presentation by the Canyon Ranch developer. To give you a little background on me and my history of this project, I have been a fan of this project since BEFORE the project was launched over three years ago. The north tower, which is the tallest building at 35 storys, has 207 units including 7 direct oceanfront townhomes Canyon Ranch: More Than Just Real Estate Since the inception of this project, my focus has been on the real estate side of the project for the obvious reasons. After today’s presentation, I am even more excited about this project and what it brings to Miami Beach because it is SO
