I've only worked with the Digital Rebel XSi and the 18-55IS and 55-250IS for a few hours at this point, taking around 180 shots. Overall I have a favorable impression of both the cama and lenses and togther I think they would make a very capable kit for someone just getting into DSLR photography. The XSi seems simple enough for anyone to use at the default settings, but offers a large degree of manual control for those who want to move beyond the basics. You could think of the XSi as pretty much an "EOS 40D Lite". The lenses, while probably not the best optics in the world, are quite good and the IS system seems to be effective. If I was buying the camera, I'd definitely get the kit with the 18-55IS included.Of course many potential buyers of the XSi might wonder if they should spend $250-

The EOS 10D is the first digital SLR to offer Canon's exclusive DIGIC Image Processor for maximum camera performance as well as direct connectivity to several Canon Bubble Jet Direct printers and the CP-100 Card Photo Printer. The camera's body, constructed with rigid magnesium alloy covers, houses and protects a number of advanced camera features including a very fast, wide area 7-point autofocus system for precise focusing; 3 frames per second drive speed in 9-frame bursts in either JPEG or simultaneous RAW + JPEG capture settings; an extended ISO range of 100-3200; BP-511 battery, manual white balance mode; selectable color space options including Adobe RGB and sRGB; a scrollable 10x zoom playback mode; and a Plug and Play USB interface.

Canon is obviously targeting photographers who wish to move into DSLR photography by its choice of SD and SDHC media for its new EOS 450D model. Although it may upset CF card devotees, it's a smart move. It's been nearly two years since I reviewed the Canon EOS 30D, and in that time the market for mid-range semi-professional digital SLRs has become a lot more crowded. While Canon is still the undisputed worldwide DSLR market leader, it no longer has only Nikon to worry about. The EOS 40D faces some pretty determined competition, so is this upgrade of the popular EOS 30D good enough to hold onto the lead?Launched in August last year, the 40D is currently selling for around £630 body-only, or around £860 with the EFS 17-85mm lens seen here. Probably the first thing to be said about portrait lenses is that you can take a portrait with just about any lens ever made. However some lenses tend to give better results than others, which is the point of this article.It's mostly about perspective. For "normal" portraits, does the lens render the image the way that you normally experience it - in other words does the portrait actually look like the person being portrayed? VerdictBeing such radically different price brackets throws difficulty on the decision. The Canon is easier to use, their's no way of changing that fact. The buttons are not as difficult to use and the menu is simpler to understand. The Canon also wins on colour rendition with the Greyhound shot and the resolution helps with cropping.It doesn't help that the massive file sizes take up a lot of space on a card. The chromatic aberration is terrible for such a top of the range model.The Nikon has better noise options and chromatic aberration is non-existant. The menu also offers in camera processing.I'm still annoyed at the resolution of the Canon's screen. The Nikon is much brighter and sharper. more : ephotozine
my canon EOS 3000N keeps flashing battery flat... even though it has brand new batteries. It will wind on film but when turned on ready to take the picture it will just display the battery flat symbol.
