I get email updates from the orphanage that I visited at during my mission trip to the Philippines. These kids are so smart and the orphanage is self sustaining... they filter their own water, they raise crops of rice, have water buffalo, run their own school, etc.. The have been facing this huge battle for several months though and I want to ask you to pray. They rescued some girls from off the street who had been raped repeatedly by "mafia" types and are now working with the local prosecutors to try and bring justice to these perverts. They are facing about 100 counts of rapes against minors right now and that's the easy stuff. The orphanage/school is constantly under attack and they have to try and separate the good cops from the bad cops as they don't know who is corrupt and who isn't. On the last day of the Urkupiña festivity, all people go to the Qota hill to get their rocks, which are a symbol of the promise they offer in exchange for lands, houses, money, cars, etc... Next an andean ritual known as "challa", which consists of a burnt offering and throwing alcohol to the ground and the rock and some other things, all done for a price by some native andean religion priest (most of the time just normal people but which offer this services specially for this event). People assume the responsability of bringing back the same rock next year, which is requiered if they want their wish to come true.I wanted to post some photographs and videos but I didn't get them, so I apologize. Right now I can hear Samy playing across the street with his friend Anna. They were making soup out of sand and dandelions and water. Elia is asleep. Ecki and Nadine are on the boat right now. Nadine has been loving the time she has to meet women on the boats and encourage them. It's really neat to hear all about that.
