Jaime Escalante (December 31, 1930) is a professor and teacher of mathematics who gained renown and distinction for his work at Garfield High School in Los Angeles, California in teaching poor minority students calculus, from 1974 to 1991.Jaime Escalante was born in La Paz, Bolivia. While living in Bolivia he taught physics and mathematics for 12 years. He also taught physics to bare-footed Indians in the Altiplano. In 1964 he decided to move to the United States. To prepare himself he started studying science and mathematics at University of Puerto Rico. Upon moving from Puerto Rico to California Jaime still could not speak English, and had no valid American teaching credentials. To rectify this he studied at night at Pasadena City College to earn a degree in electronics. At this point he
Spending time in my former office today as a consultant (something I now do on a weekly basis), I was struck by how sincerely I miss a handful of patients, and how much I truly don't miss a small group of my most needy former patients. After three months of not working full-time following a seven year sojourn of intensive case management, I'm feeling the loss involved in saying goodbye and walking away from a number of close long-term connections. Periodically I think of calling one or another of my former patients, and one of these days I'll probably pick up the phone and do so. Those goodbyes can be hard, and the hellos can now seem equally challenging. The intimate connections nurtured over those years came to be part and parcel of my life, and while that closeness eventually did indeed c
Making History.
Democrats have opened up a huge "history gap" with the Republicans, lately rubbing their history-making noses in Republican's static faces. Democrats chose the theme "making history" for their California convention and may do the same for Denver. The candidates themselves have mentioned their historicity in debates.
By "history," they don't mean their economic policies as they first made history in Bismarkian Germany in the late 19th century, then in Italy a few years later, and the United States in 1930, 1933, 1964, and 1976. Nor is their foreign policy novel, having been implemented in 382 in Rome, 1937 in Great Britain and Vietnam in 1975. What they're talking about is Obama's half blackness and Clinton's complete womanhood (You know that race and sex don't matter unl
Some one wanted to be a smart mouth in calculus class the other day and asked if the teacher subing during test day knew calculus. My professor didn’t say anything and kept on teaching.
Yesterday, on test day, the professor walks in askes who wanted to know if he knew calculus. No one said a word. He [...]
So I wake up to my professor asking if any of us wanted some cake today in Calculus. Yes, I did admit to sleeping in class. I was pretty much out for 15 minutes before I realized it and was freaking out in my head until he said there was chocolate cake. lol. He brought [...]

Starts with the necessary linear algebra and then uses it as a framework upon which to build multivariable calculus. Many applications are presented, some of these are very difficult but worthwhile. Hard sections are starred in the table of contents.
This book gives complete proofs of all theorems in one variable calculus and to at least give plausibility arguments for those in multiple dimensions. Serious students will find complete explanations in this book.
Calculus or tartar is a hard, yellowish deposit on teeth. It is composed of mineral salts, food, and other debris that has hardened over time. Tartar cannot be brushed off. It has a rough surface, attracting more debris and food particles, causing a repeating cycle of tartar formation and buildup.
Clearly explains the introductory concepts of linear algebra. Provides students with many real-world linear algebra topics to explore. Students with experience in general mathematics, up to and including Algebra I, should be able to comprehend.
