Later in 1100s the Seljuks captured Cairo and the city was further expanded. Baghdad was sacked in 1258 and this enhanced the importance of the city making it into an intellectual and artistic center in the Middle East. It is also the most populous metropolitan area in Africa .The city was founded in AD 969 as the royal enclosure for the Fatimid caliphs, while the actual economic and administrative capital was in nearby Fustat. The Baron's Palace, Fables, Legends and Controversies,Greater Cairo
It would seem that the Baron's Palace in Greater Cairo, after the Great Pyramid and Sphinx of Giza, is subject to more fables, legends and rumors than any other monument in Egypt. I was astounded to hear from a guide, who was very serious, that the old palace was build upon a type of turnstile that would rotate the whole building so that its windows were always facing the sun. Of course, that was urban legend in Cairo, but for many years, this building in Heliopolis has ignited the imagination of the local population with all manner of fables, legends and rumors.Today, the Baron’s Hindu Palace remains the subject of countless rumors. From time to time new rumors spread about this landmark which has been deserted for many years. It’s haunted by bats, stray dogs, and others believe by ghosts. And while the place attracts some architects for it richness, it also seems to have attracted teenagers for their wild parties. They would break into the place on weekends, drink beer and smoke

Tales From The Road: Hong Kong, Bangkok, Cairo, and Jamaica
Finding great travel tales often entails getting a little dirty. The best stories are the ones that smell, the kind you can’t hope to spot from inside an air conditioned tour bus. Get down on your hands and knees and poke around, dig into the muck-heap, grab on to something and pull it out into the light. After you wipe off the grime, you might just see a buried treasure, a story full of hope and resonance and truth that most people would never think was there. This week Tales From the Road gets down and dirty, hitting up backpacker ghettos in Hong Kong and Bangkok and diving deep into the garbage dumps of Cairo before swinging back to the Americas and passing out at a Jamaican reggae concert. The roundup wraps up with an emotional punch, a tribute to the mothers of Argentinian activists who were tortured and killed by a military dictatorship during the “Dirty War.” Got all your shots? Then come down from that sterile tour bus, breathe in the stink, dirty yo

      Cairo 2050
The latest show starring Gamal Mubarak was a sudden conference called "Cairo 2050" The conference was about the future plans for Cairo ,the capital of Egypt till the year 2050 Future planning is very important in any country and it is good to see that the officials are doing it but again what is the role of Gamal Mubarak in this planning officially ?? He is a only the general secretary of the policies committee in the NDP , anyhow we all know that he is ruling Egypt unofficially Ironically after the news coverage of the event ,I met many people who had one question , in fact it was a reflection for their fear "Is he going to rule us till the year 2050 ??!!" Another nightmare , not only the present or the near future but the far future Not our kids but our grand children too Another question "Is he going to plan for Future Cairo so he can sell it ?? Another question "Is he going to make Cairo for rich only??" These sarcastic questions are reflection for what the Egyptian Peo

      News - Cairo RIP
It happened a few weeks ago, but I'm only ready to talk about it now.My sick kitty Cairo died. The whole household was so distraught (my DH, MIL, our other cat Suki, and dog Piffy) that I decided on a distraction.I'd like you to meet Simba. He fits in like butter on warm toast. He's actually suckling on his tail. He's a rescue. Loves life and playing like there's no tomorrow. Here he's fanning his feet (making bread/kneading) while suckling.Suki loved him from the moment we brought him home. The first day Suki kept running up to Simba and licking him, then running away. In this picture they're caught in the act of playing. Potential LOLCat pics I think.Life is so fragile. Enjoy every moment. Love yourself.

JON & VANGELIS - Friends of Mr. Cairo (1981)
A verdadeira jóia desse album é a extraordinária e melódica "Friends of Mr. Cairo."

(photos shot in Cairo)

Sábado vou às pirâmides!!(photo shot in Cairo)

      Cairo
Ports are transitional: the places where countries merge, before coexisting on boats. Men had staggered clumsily through the pitching Ulysses, which took us from Rosslare to Cherbourg. They drank Guinness in the cabaret bar, and watched wide smiling dancers perform can cans or off balance jigs. On the less bumpy journey from Brindisi to Patras, [...]

Deddy loved to hunt deers over off the truck route, down Tower Road by the power lines, long before them places was in town. Back then, just seein' a deer was a big deal. These days you lucky if you can ride out Highway 12 and not end up with one as a hood ornament. One chilly afternoon Deddy and my older brother came home after bagging two bucks in one day, which was unheard of. Naturally all the cuzzins and neighbor young'uns hadda come runnin' up to take a look at them dead stags hangin off the tailgate of the pickup. Cuzzin J.D., who is three days younger than me, was the first one there.Deddy was ready to git down to business. "You gals go play somewhere else," he said, "'cause we're fixin' to skin these here deer, and it ain't gonna be perty."We ain't went nowhere. How gross could skinnin' a deer be? If the boys could watch, so could us gals. And so the buck-prep began. When Deddy commenced to rippin' across the first buck's forehead with a crosscut saw, my two sisters l
