2009 Cadillac CTS-V will officially make 556 horsepower
We thought Bentley's announcement earlier today that it's adding a Speed model to the Continental Flying Spur lineup was exciting news for sedan fans. After all, a 600bhp saloon that can hit 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and reach 200 MPH is pretty exciting, no? Not really when compared to Cadillac's news that the 2009 CTS-V will officially be rated at 556 horsepower, hit 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and run the

Those looking for something both individual and practical need look no further than Coach Builders Ltd's latest creation. The fully convertible version of the 2008 Cadillac CTS turns this award winning car into a sporty drop-top. This latest addition to Coach Builders' range of convertibles is a sure way of standing out from the crowd. The company offer conversions on several US built cars which compliment the lines of the original design without the hacked about look of conversions of the past. With the lack of choice in the mass produced market for larger 5 seat and 4 door convertibles these cars offer a viable alternative for those who don't want to sacrifice fun for practicality. The Cadillac's top can be made in a choice of colours to compliment your car's paintwork and interior. The wagon variant of the Cadillac CTS has been caught testing ahead of its likely debut at the Paris Show in October, where it will probably be shown with the new 250hp, 406lb ft 2.9-liter V-6 turbo-diesel that will be critical for CTS' success in the European market. The CTS wagon will be produced along side the sedan and coupe versions at the Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant in Michigan starting in the spring of 2009. Production volume is expected to be around 10,000-12,000 vehicles, with the majority destined for Europe. The CTS wagon has been the subject of huge debate within GM. Execs with a North American focus couldn't see the point of doing a wagon because volumes would be small; more global oriented execs realized a wagon had a lot more acceptance in Europe, and would help grow (w

2008 Motor Trend Car of the Year Winner: Cadillac CTS
News flash to automakers in Japan and Germany: The eagle has landed. Again. If you were one of those who wrote off General Motors as a dying dinosaur -- after all, it's been a decade since any GM car took home the Golden Calipers (the Chevrolet Corvette won back in 1998) -- prepare to rewrite everything you think you know about what's in the General's store. With this bold, savvy, uncompromising showpiece of a sedan -- the all-new Cadillac CTS -- GM has leapt straight from the rabble's side of the velvet rope into that coveted, highly selective inner sanctum marked "World's Finest Cars." For that remarkable achievement, and for making us grin like lottery winners every time we drove it, the CTS is our enthusiastic choice for Motor Trend's 2008 Car of the Year. Not since Neil and Buzz spiked Old Glory into the lunar dust in 1969 have red-white-and-blue ambition and technological prowess looked so good. Cadillac CTS
Aggressive and elegant, expressive and sophisticated, the 2008 Cadillac CTS exudes a dramatic design presence. This all-new luxury sedan not only pushes Cadillac’s acclaimed design theme higher, it aims to redraw the boundaries of the normally conservative luxury sedan category. Inside and out, the 2008 CTS contradicts many traditional design conventions. CTS’ design expresses its serious performance intent, yet also is more elegant and luxurious. It’s a sedan in the heart of the luxury market, yet reaches for the charisma of a sports car. CTS is thoroughly new and contemporary, even while it evokes the grandeur of classic Cadillac cars.Since the inception of the first-generation car in 2002, CTS is about trend-setting design. The edgy form of the CTS initially created controversy. But from the moment it hit the market, its design also attracted lots of buyers, with design often noted as a top reason for purchase. The all-new 2008 edition extends that edgy and contemporary charac

505 hp and 470 pound-feet of torque, the LS7 should have more than enough grunt to get the roughly 3,800-pound CTS-V up to speed. Consider that Mercedes-Benz uses an engine with nearly identical specs in its 4,000-pound E63 AMG, which is the quickest sedan. The first-gen CTS-V, fitted with a Corvette powertrain and transaxle, suffered from wheel hop. We’re told that’s eliminated in the 2009 model, thanks to a completely redone rear suspension. The ’09 will continue to use massive Brembo brakes all around.GM vice chairman Bob Lutz says the 2009 CTS-V “will be at a power level only described as unexpectedly high” and that it should rival the BMW M5. After driving a prototype, Lutz reportedly said the car is “flat-out incredible” and that he’s “never driven anything like that.” Yes, we’d expect that from a GM insider, but Lutz does have some of the world’s top machinery at his disposal for comparison purposes.CTS-V production should get under way in fall 2008 and wi

Spy Shot: Cadillac CTS-V engine bay
Don't get excited, as this shot of the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V's open engine bay reveals next to nothing. What we can see is a beefy cross brace that looks to be the tallest component of the engine. The crossbrace is probably what's necessitated the hood bulge we've seen in so many spy photos of the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V. Aside from that, a strategically placed piece of insulation hides what's below the brace, which allows us to continue speculating what motor will be moving this beastly sedan.GM product planners have no doubt had a good chuckle over all the claims made about what engine the 2009 CTS-V will use. Motor Trend stated with authority that the CTS-V would get a detuned 600-horsepower version of the Corvette "Blue Devil" SS's 700-hp supercharged LS9 V8.The instant that claim was published, however, other inside sources were deriding it as completely bogus. Another possibility is to use a supercharged version of the 2008 Corvette's new LS3 V8. Last, but certainly not least, is

      2008 Cadillac CTS-V Spy Shot[3 pictures]
SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Spy photos of the 2008 Cadillac CTS-V have been circulating for months, but these are the latest shots of Cadillac's upcoming super sedan. The first time we caught spy photos and video of the 2008 Cadillac CTS-V, it was running the Nürburgring test track in Germany. It sounded as good as it looked and our best guess at the time was Z06 power under the hood. Our prediction hasn't changed despite the obvious hood bulge on this prototype. Such bodywork is typically a telltale sign of a blower hiding beneath. Countless rumors have predicted various supercharged V8s, but we're sticking to our original call and predicting a normally aspirated 500-plus-horsepower LS7 under the hood.Nothing else has changed on this prototype as far as we can tell. It has the same set of industrial-strength brake rotors up front along with a deep, wire mesh airdam. Equally aggressive bodywork wraps around the sides and dual exhaust pipes finish off the rear end.The standard Cadillac C

Between the Lines: Car and Driver on the New Cadillac CTS
Aside from ad revenue, why would a car magazine want to position itself as a cheering section for General Motors? Well exactly. Car and Driver’s September review of the “new” Cadillac CTS is such a blatant example of boosterism it puts the "sub" in "subsidy." This will come as no surprise to regular readers who’ve watched the buff book slowly sink into a glossy ghetto of pistonhead prostitution. Even so, I feel compelled to use C&D’s CTS review as a re-launching pad for Between the Lines, so that TTAC readers understand what this website stands for. Or, more precisely, against.
