We visited this big nice Cactus Valley on the 2nd day of the trip (Sep, 2003). I cannot remember the entrance fees now......hmm, my poor memory! Basically, it's full of choices of the Cactus and colourful too! One of the visitor of this blog – Mr Kumar told that there's a Big Red Strawberry Farm and the back of this Valley. But you have to walk through Cactus Valley.....and it's FREE entrance! I
Oh my gawd you guys!! Do you remember my butt cactus???..Now it looks like this:My ass has deflated!! I don't know how or why, all I know is that my cheeks are droopy! Andy said he knew something was wrong when the little butt bone shriveled. My weekend was great until this tragedy hit my household. We made an emergency run to the place I bought it but they didn't have any more. How sad for me!Don'

Ok, I think I got a bug from our Spanish trip… Like the snail in the cactus above. It’s exactly like me right now. Maybe that “mañana-think” really is contagious, because I don’t get things done…. *giggles*
A good thing though is that even the Spanish weather seem to be [...]
Cactus cutting is a great way to increase your number of cactus quickly and cheaply. It's free which is much cheaper than buying another cactus. When cutting your cactus there are three things you need to know. These three things you need to know when cutting cactus are how to take a cutting, how to plant, and how to water your new cactus cutting. If you follow these three fundamentals part of you

Over recent years, a new weight loss treatment started in the news in the form of a plant called "Hoodia", all signs that this is the "real thing" are good. The slimming industry has been quick to capitalize on the effectiveness of Hoodia cactus extract supplemented with a weight problem is now that global, this plant will be in great demand. You can, in fact, be surprised to learn all the benefits of this natural resource has to offer people who are desperate to shed unwanted pounds.Hoodia is from the family of cacti, and there are thirteen in all. In fact, this cactus is so good at reducing the appetite that it is considered by the medical science , as the most effective appetite inh
On the way home from TAFE today I stopped by the flower shop in the train station. I’ve been keeping an eye on it since I started TAFE and decided that it was time to make one of those impulsive feel-good purchases. I bought HHRay a cactus. It’s pretty big - not like to my [...]

There are different types of cactus . there are cactus that does not give flower at all. I have different kinds of cactus varieties. most of them, I got it from during plant festival here in our place Davao City. Some of those are from Thailand and some are from my Friends who are also collecting different varieties of cactus. Cactus is easy to grow because they don't need too much water for they they want a dry soil to grow. That picture on top of my post is the actual photo of my cactus that I got it from my Cellphone camera.
Deep inside the African Kalahari desert, grows an ugly cactus called the Hoodia. It thrives in extremely high temperatures, and takes years to mature. The San Bushmen of the Kalahari, one of the world's oldest and most primitive tribes, had been eating the Hoodia for thousands of years, to stave off hunger during long hunting trips. When South African scientists were routinely testing it, they discovered the plant contained a previously unknown molecule, which has since been christened P 57.According to the British Heart Foundation 17% of men and 21% of women are obese, while 46% of men and 32% of women are overweight. So the drug's marketing potential speaks for itself.Phytopharm's Dr Richard Dixey explained how P.57 actually works:"There is a part of your brain, the hypothalamus. I don't have a green thumb,Ok!I have a dumb thumb.Do you believe "Green thumb, thingy" seriously-I believe.I had a cactus plant before. It won't survive for long.I don't personally have one of these, but it happened when I was browsing around Walmart during window shopping. There was red, orange and yellow cactus with blooms.See what it came up with...Here's what I got... I like yellow flower. No matter what types of flowers.I just like yellow.I don’t know the name of the cactus but this time I want to try another luck. Will see how long this cactus could survive.Ms envy has a beautiful Christmas Cactus.Thinking of buying one but I have a limited budget to spend for this year. This time,I put my cactus to a corner by a window.Because I remember last time I put my cactus in the Kitchen,it went downhill. So I try to get much more light now.I have also try to stop watering it everyday until it is

I have read that this item is all the rage in Japan. I don’t see it taking off here. Why would I want to attach a tiny cactus to my cell phone? Mammillaria plumosa is native to Nuevo Leon, Mexico and is commonly known as "Feather Cactus" because of the feathery spines. Most Mammillarias are native to Mexico but they can be found from the southwestern US all the way south to northern parts of South America. The cute and cuddly appearance of the Feather Cactus is a bit deceiving as I learned earlier when I was repotting this one-it has some real sharp spines below the innocent looking surface. The colors of the flower for this cactus vary from white to pink and are more striking than the flowers on my plant. The feathery spines of this cactus are also usually a very pure white color but they are prone to staining from watering from above or becoming dusty. When I first received this cactus it fell over and got covered with dirt and the feathery spines have looked dirty since then. The growth of the spines is not just attractive but it serves a purpose, they've adapted to grow out in this manner to provide shade for the plant.Min
By: Adrian Hardy Weight loss is not an easy task, especially when you have hunger pangs or are constantly thinking about food. In fact it is hard to concentrate on your daily activities if your stomach is rumbling or making odd noises. Many drugs have been created over the years. Many have proved to be ineffective or have undesirable side effects. For instance, amphetamines were initially prescribed as a weight loss drug. They are now illegal and thought to prematurely age the body's organs if used repeatedly. However a type of medicine has evolved, known as anorectics. There are many branded, synthetically manufactured medicines that act as an anoretics or appetite suppressants. A relatively new product that acts as an appetite suppressant is the natural Hoodia Gordonii cactus. Weight loss with hoodia gordonii cactus has had some positive results and many favorable press stories have been written about it. This article will cover the background of this plant and how it is used to aid
On a previous entry here I wrote about how to get your Christmas Cactus to flower and on my other blog I wrote an entry on rooting Christmas Cactus cuttings. In the first entry here I alluded to something being fishy in regards to calling my plants "Christmas Cacti." Most of the plants sold today as "Christmas Cactus" are actually not the true Christmas cactus. These are not your grandma's Christmas cactus. The Schlumbergera truncata cultivars being sold today as "Christmas Cactus" are actually the plant commonly referred to as "Thanksgiving Cactus." The real Christmas cactus is Schlumbergera x. buckleyi and is a cross between S. russelliana and S. truncata. The plant was produced by William Buckley at the Rollisson Nurseries in England. Why are two different plants going by the same common name? The reason that Schlumbergera truncata is going by "Christmas Cactus" today instead of "Thanksgiving Cactus" is because of money. Professional plant growers can get Schlumbergera truncata to flo
It is the time of year when store shelves are stocked with Christmas cactus plants so people can decorate their homes with them during the holidays. About the same time that they start appearing on store shelves questions on how to make your Christmas cactus bloom start appearing on gardening forums and in the Home & Garden section of newspapers. I've already seen a few Christmas cactus owners posing questions on gardening forums I frequent. What amazes me is the lengths people go through to get a Christmas cactus to bloom.Good horticulture or hortitorture?*The most common advice I come across regarding getting a Christmas cactus to bloom involves placing them in a closet from 6pm-6am for a period of 6-8 weeks. I'm not making this up. I did a search using Google For Gardeners- to see what the .edu websites would recommend. The advice to place it in a closet from 6pm-6am came from the "Christmas Cactus FAQ" on the Purdue Extension website. On a gardening forum I participate at a

This is a miniature cactus.
Since falling into my possession, it has transformed from a living, albeit small, green plant into a dried up and very much dead plant.
I killed it.
Which, disturbingly, means that I am less nurturing than the desert.

You’ve gotta love a car that cuts back on materials by eliminating the dashboard.
Citroën always finds a way to push the envelope when it comes to concept cars. The C-Cactus is no exception, stressing environmental friendliness by doing away with such frivolities as, say, a dashboard!
But before we focus on the interior (or lack thereof), let’s take a moment to let Citroën’s traditionally wacky PR spin work its wonderful magic. The C-Cactus is so named since “it shares its namesake’s reputation for low consumption.” Trust us—we couldn’t make this up if we tried.
Aside from the prickly name, the C-Cactus packs some truly interesting technology under its lumpy lines. A four-cylinder HDi (high-pressure direction injection) diesel-hybrid engine produces 70 horsepower and is linked to a 30-hp electric motor. Citroën says that around town, the C-Cactus can function in full-electric mode with zero exhaust emissions. On the highway, a diesel particula
I know some of you ladies dislike cream blush and I will post reviews of some powder blushes, but I really can't believe I haven't raved about this yet. It is one my favourite blushes of all time: so flattering and easy to apply. Here's why I love this blush so much.First off, let me start off with the texture of Nars' cream blushes. They are in cream form, but they are rather dry compared to other cream blushes. This is not to say that they're hard to apply. They go on like a dream and blend into my skin without much effort. They also dry to a powder finish and don't really look or feel like other cream blushes. And to top it off, Nars' cream blushes don't make my pores look like craters or break me outSecondly, do not be frightened by the colour in the pan and keep in mind that a little goes a very long way. Cactus flower is a gorgeous bright poppy shade with subtle gold shimmer. When applied, it lends a beautiful, almost unnoticeable glow, and a pop of pinky/coral colour on
Citroen will show a hybrid car concept dubbed C-Cactus at the IAA 2007.The Citroen C-Cactus is powered by a 70hp HDi Diesel engine and a 30hp electric engine. The cute car would only need 3.4 l/100km (~69MPG) and the CO2 emissions would be only 78g/km. Citroen managed to build the C-Cactus from only 200 parts. Comparable models need twice as much usually. The top speed of the C-Cactus is limited to 150km/h (~93).The IAA 2007 will start on September 13th on Frankfurt, Germany.More IAA 2007 News.
Citroen's quirk styling continues on with the C-Cactus Concept, destined for debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show. The C-Cactus Concept is described as an "ecological hatchback with cheerful, attractive styling, equipped with a hybrid HDi drivetrain and sold at the same price as an entry-level C4." Citroen may have got the part on the design wrong. The C-Cactus will not enter production, but will be
Orbeas are a genus of succulent plants in the Apocynacea family, they're evergreen- leafless plants native to Africa. Starfish Cactus and Toad Cactus are misleading common names because this plant is not a cacti-it is a succulent. A better common name for this Orbea is Carrion Flower or African Carrion Flower.I find this succulent plant to be easy to grow indoors and I think I've discovered the trick to get it to flower. When growing cacti and succulent plants the trick is to mimic the growing conditions in the wild when we're growing them indoors. In the winter I reduce the amount of water I give my succulents and will only water when I notice some shrinking of the stems of this Orbea. Since the plant goes dormant in the winter giving it bright light isn't really an issue- it does well in a west facing window. This succulent came to be in my possession after I was given three cuttings by a member of a cactus and succulent forum I frequent. The first year I grew my cuttings on the f

Well they couldn’t find a teddy bear they liked, but we ended up spending about 20 minutes at the cactus display. We have this cool green one that’s sort of triangle shape stem (?) and a pile of red spiked piles on top. They’re in generic wrapping so it doesn’t say what kind it is specifically.
Then I’m not sure who it was, but someone picked out a really great ivy plant. It’s indoor only until spring comes around. But if we fix up a neat little garden basement so we can work in the winter too, it’ll go down there probably for the winter.
So today we have to repot a lucky bamboo, a small cactus, oh..I guess that’s the only two that need bigger pots. Read up for the cactus, I guess it’s called potting, not repotting. Since I plan to just take the dirt it’s in and put dirt around it in a new pot. The lucky bamboo gets totally new dirt. I have no idea what is up with
I know what lime tastes like. I have never in my life tasted a cactus. I thought they might be going for the beer/maragrita thing so maybe there is a taste of tequila in it. Although tequila comes from the agave plant and that is not a cactus. So maybe it is beer that tastes like lime and Saguaro cactus. I would try it but I don’t know that I would like drinking a cactus.
Friday, Aunt Jane took Tony and me up Jane's Butte on horseback. We got up there and I think we bored Aunt Jane with all the pictures we were taking along the way and once we got up there, but here she was getting ready to give Teddy (that's the horse) a drink of water from Raven (the dog's) portable water bowl. I waited until she stood up again to take another picture, but that one wasn't as cool (in my opinion) as this one. Of course, this one turned out better that I'd expected so.... (Hint - it's bigger on Picasa) On our way down the butte, I saw this cactus in bloom. I don't think we'd seen one in bloom yet, and if we had, we'd not been able to take a picture of it. So when we got to a flat enough spot that I could park my horse, I made Tony give me the camera and climbed back up for a picture. By the time I got up and back, I was even more grateful that the horses were doing all the work instead of me.

"Cactus may have never amounted to anything more than a half-hearted, last-minute improvised supergroup, but that don't mean their eponymous 1970 debut didn't rock like a mofo. The already quasi-legendary Vanilla Fudge rhythm section of Bogert and Appice may have provided the backbone of the band's business cards, and soulful, ex-Amboy Duke Rusty Day brought the voice, but it was
I finally got around to repotting a couple of cacti that I own and decided to take some photos to detail how I repot a cactus. Normally I would recommend repotting a succulent during the early spring when it enters the active growing cycle but I didn't get around to it and there are still plenty of warm days ahead.Step 1:The first thing you should do when repotting a plant is to gather your plant, pot and soil in the area you will be working in.Step 2:Choose the right size pot for your plant. In this case the cacti is small and isn't a very fast grower so I chose a pot just slightly larger. If you choose a pot that is too large your soil will remain wet longer which could be detrimental to plants like cacti.Step 3:Lift the cacti from it's pot. You can use a thick pair of gardening gloves or tongs if you are worried about getting pricked by the spines. I didn't have any handy so I made a strap out of newspaper to lift the cacti and not get poked by it. Take this time to examine the

Cactus - Fully Unleashed- The Live Gigs(1970-72)320kbpsWith the exception of a few numbers on assorted multi-artist collections and the trio of tunes included on 'Ot 'N' Sweaty (1972), American blues-rockers Cactus were poorly represented as a performing act until this release. Fully Unleashed: The Live Gigs (2004) is the companion volume to the similarly thorough Barely Contained: The Studio Sessions (2004). Each double-disc package is filled with not only the combo's respective four long-players, but also plenty of remarkable and previously vaulted sides. That is an understatement when considering the two-plus hours of vintage concert material from three distinct incarnations of Cactus, centering on the first lineup's final show on December 19, 1971 at Ellis Auditorium in Memphis, TN. Jim McCarty's wailing lead electric guitar introduction to "Long Tall Sally" is a precursor to the hard-and-heavy onslaught that alternately pulverizes and soars on other classic covers, such as t
The Hoodia Gordonii cactus extract has been widely publicized on the Today Show, 60 Minutes and other broadcast television programs. In the 1990s the Council For Scientific And Industrial Research conducted a detailed research study on the many native plants and bush foods eaten regularly by the "Sans Bushmen".What the CSIR soon found out was that the Hoodia cactus plant is not only not poisonous but it also contains some incredibly powerful properties to suppress the appetite and suppress the appetite. The Photography At Absoluately Cactus Are Absoluately Wonderful!

A friend runs a great site selling a variety of cacti that she has grown, cross-bred, and nurtured to the point of having a veritable atrium of cacti. This is not a bad thing, but a truly wonderful thing. She is a literal fount of knowledge when it comes to the subject matter of plants and cacti. Her encyclopedic knowledge of cacti has allowed her to raise and grow a wide array of cacti and ensure that they flourish.
This, in and of itself, is awesome. However, what makes it interesting, from this site's perspective, at any rate, are the awesome and truly beautiful photography of the cacti. Not only does she raise her own cacti, but she also handles her own web design and photography of the cacti. Each and every photograph of a cacti on her site was shot by her.

This ink and watercolor painting from the Arizona desert doesn't really show how big these plants can get. I was more interested in showing the maze of sprouts that grow upward. This is a Saguaro Cactus which can grow from 15 to 50 feet tall. The base sprout can be 18 to 24 inches in diameter. These are slow growing monsters that have the ability to store the minimal amounts of water needed to survive.

The already quasi-legendary Vanilla Fudge rhythm section of Bogert and Appice may have provided the backbone of the band's business cards, and soulful, ex-Amboy Duke Rusty Day brought the voice, but it was arguably former Detroit Wheels guitarist Jim McCarty who was the true star in the Cactus galaxy, spraying notes and shredding solos all over album highlights such as "You Can't Judge a Book By the Cover," "Let Me Swim," and, most notably, a manic, turbocharged version of "Parchman Farm." The fact that Cactus chose to tackle this classic blues song just a year after it'd been blasted into the fuzz-distortion stratosphere by Blue Cheer betrays -- at best -- a healthy competitive spirit within the early-'70s hard rock milieu, and at worst it suggests something of a merce
Like men, the old cactus set ahead has turned into an eternal prayer to the sky making time a shiftless desire to rest in peace.Body: Olympus E500 Lens: Zuiko 14 - 54 f/2,8 - 3,5Shutter Speed: 1/320 F-Stop: f/11
Jeju is a volcanic island south of Korea known as the "Hawaii of Korea". It has a temperate climate and is most famous for its oranges, which everyone in Korea raves about. We had a chance to visit Jeju-do during the beginning of our time in Korea. You may remember our "wonderful" hotel room in Seogwipo, our trip to Hyeopjae Beach next to Hallim Park, and our visit to Jeju-si, Central Jeju.Anyways, Jeju also makes some famous chocolate, one of them known to many as Jeju cactus chocolate. Cactus in chocolate?? Yeah, you got that right. According to one website, "Jeju cactus chocolate is made with cactus powder through vacuum lyophilization (I didn't know what that meant either) of Jeju cactus. It adds nutritive substance to deep and tender chocolate taste."I've eaten this chocolate a few times now, mostly received as a gift from students and one time a lady from our bank. It's got an interesting flavor that one should give a try. You might not like it, but it's different that's for
For my first post here at Our Book Of Scrap, I'm importing a semi-regular feature from The Feed. Since the start of Spring Training, we take a look at all the camps and find the kinds of stories that only seem to happen during the spring. The insanely positive, the overly negative, the ridiculous and the sublime and put them all together under the title, "Drinking The Grapefruit And Cactus
I made the rounds at the 2007 Stockholm Furniture Fair this weekend, and although there was not all that much new (to me) and exciting stuff, I found some gems that I want to share with you over the next few days. Today's fair find is the Wild Bill coat hanger from Tveit & Tornøe, a k a Norwegian design duo Atle Tveit and Lars Tornøe. The Wild Bill coat stand is still a concept, but if enough of us show our interest, it could very well be produced. I think it deserves to be. What do you think?

Cactus Valley is one of the biggest and most popular tourist destination located at the cool mountains of Brinchang, Cameron Highlands. It is quite easy to spot with its mock giant cactus replica at its entrance. The Cactus Valley boasts of having the most variety of cactus plants. Some cactus is as old as 60 years old!The entrance fee is RM4 (about USD1) for adults and RM2 for children. There is no charge for cameras. They will probably also give discounts for older folks or for tour groups. If you plan to visit the place, let me warn you first that the site is mainly terraced hill slopes. The ground is paved concrete, as are steps between terraces. Be careful when walking around as the steps can be uneven or a little high. Apart from Cactus Valley, there is another place called Cactus Point. This is located opposite of Multicrops Central Market. It is not so big but nice exhibit of large specimens. Many varieties of cactus are grown here too. If you like some of the cactus, you can bu
Cactus - Cactus (1970)(Re-Post)320kbpsCactus may have never amounted to anything more than a half-hearted, last-minute improvised supergroup, but that don't mean their eponymous 1970 debut didn't rock like a mofo. The already quasi-legendary Vanilla Fudge rhythm section of Bogert and Appice may have provided the backbone of the band's business cards, and soulful, ex-Amboy Duke Rusty Day brought the voice, but it was arguably former Detroit Wheels guitarist Jim McCarty who was the true star in the Cactus galaxy, spraying notes and shredding solos all over album highlights such as "You Can't Judge a Book By the Cover," "Let Me Swim," and, most notably, a manic, turbocharged version of "Parchman Farm."
