Every year I keep my eyes open for wines that I can serve at the Passover seder; this year, I’m going to recommend this Gedeon Cabernet Sauvignon for the first cup.

This is an excellent wine at a bargain price. The flavor is good, with a pleasant nose of fruit and vanilla, and the high alcohol content gives it some good bite.

I have to admit it: this wine took me by surprise. I wasn’t expecting anything this good. Instead, I this wine turned out to be delightful.

For a Californian wine under 6 dollars, this stuff is great! Rich, and medium bodied, this wine is produced at the Leaping Horse Vineyards in Lodi, California.

This premium Chilean is an opaque garnet hue with a mature looking rim. Chocolate emerges on opening even as I am pouring my first taste. There are loads of pure fruit. The History of Cabernet Sauvignon is actually less than six hundred years old which makes it a relative newcomer to the world of wine grapes. Today marks the monthly meeting of the meme called Wine Blogging Wednesday, which was originated by Lenn Thompson of LennDevours back in the autumn of 2004. For the theme of this 44th edition, this month’s host, Gary V at Wine Library TV, chose French Cabernet Franc. For many of the participants, I expect this might open the door to new tasting experiences. For me, on the other hand, it’s a no-brainer. Sure, there’s the occasional Bordeaux blend that’s dominated by Cabernet Franc, particularly in the northern crescent of Saint-Emilion. Think of Châteaux Cheval Blanc, Jean-Faure and some of their neighbors, for instance. And for those who go out of their way to find them, there’s the occasional oddball Franc from the hinterlands of the southwest corner of the country. In fa

I went over to my neighbors last night to give them some homemade Christmas treats and I got a treat right back in form of a glass of Robert Craig 2002 Mt. Veeder Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.I have had the Robert Craig Affinity (their Bordeaux blend) at several occasions before and always enjoyed it, but this wine was definitely a notch up.The color in the glass is a deep red garnet color. Big ripe berries, black cherry and black currant meets you at the nose with oak and vanilla notes. The palate is equally lush with dark berries, black currant, and a long finish with violet candy, black liquorice notes, and supple, well integrated tannins with matching acidity. This was a really good glass of wine and as soon as I finished my glass I wished I had a bottle waiting at home. The quality of the wine very much matches the price tag; available from $60 at Wine-Searcher.com. Going to Las Vegas last weekend our flight out of Sacramento was delayed for 4 hours, which gave us plenty of time to kill in the airport's wine bar, Vino Volo. Vino Volo is a chain of airport wine bars with five current locations; Seattle, Sacramento, Washington DC, Baltimore and New York, and with plans to expand and open many more locations in the upcoming year.Having the option to visit Vino Volo made me very excited as airport food and drinks, in general, gives me the shivers... Vino Volo adds a touch of sophistication with good quality wine by flight, glass or bottle. Small plates are also served. We tried the cheese plate, chicken panini and the New York skewers with mashed potatoes and peas. All a step above all other airport food I have ever had. I started of with the Pinot Noir wine flight featuring a California pinot from the Molnar Family 2005 Poseidon's Vineyard, from France the Louis Latour 2002 VOLNAY, and from New Zealand the Nevis Bluff 2003 Pinot Noir. We got half a case of the Plumpjack Estate 1999 Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon at their winery in Napa Valley when it was first released, and after drinking all of them but one bottle during the first two years it was now time to have the last bottle. We were expecting pretty good stuff and were not disappointed...Dark cherry, dark raspberry, black currant and pencil lead on the nose made for a good beginning. On the palate, black currant, spice, and earthy mushrooms. It still has nice dark fruit and berries, and surprisingly high in tannins. Tuesday Tasting is a regular feature of Lyke2Drink that explores some of the best beers, wines and spirits on the market. This week we head to California to taste a wine named for a late actor.Celebrities with their names on drinks brands have become pretty common these days. Some are nothing more than marketing ploys. Not the Raymond Burr brand, named for the late actor who made the television characters Perry Mason and Ironsides household names. Burr and his partner, fellow actor Robert Benevides, first agrarian love was the cultivation of hybrid orchids. Sea God Nurseries produced orchids in Fiji, Hawaii, the Azores Islands and Southern California. The pair extended their efforts to grapes in in 1986 on land in the Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma. A modern styled bed like Cabernet is characterized by its new style and the fresh and sparkling design, it uses iron in a very innovative way for bed manufacturing. I love how the volutes cling to the bed frame; it is different on each pole which makes it looks like real grape vines. Neat design from Maggioni.

Last week was a night for sitting outside at The Villa, having a quickly-made, long-enjoyed dinner with friends. The grill worked overtime for shish kabobs with spicy chicken, tasty tri-tip using the fancy box of salts, mushrooms, onions, and tomatoes. The cellar rat piled all the ingredients on one large platter so we could fill our plates. It’s hard to beat a meal that tastes so good and takes so little effort to make. Yum.
The wine I decanted while the boys grilled was the 2003 Martella Heart Arrow Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon. Michael had given me the bottle earlier that day–a gift I was excited to receive as that’s one of my favorite Martella wines. Though I’m not sure Micahel appreciated my first impressions of the nose. I told him the next day the first thing I got upon inhaling the heady scent of the wine was Ben and Jerry’s Strawberry Cheesecake ice cream. “Not very Cab-like,” he said. “Delicious, nonetheless,” I repli

FELIZ DÍA A TODAS!!! This one is a bit more expensive than what I usually propose to you. But it was in sale so I took the occasion to buy a couple of them ;-)))
This Australian wine is simply incredible. A full mouth of fresh fruits with a little taste of wood. One of the best wine I ever tasted. Highly recommended. The 2002 vintage is ready to drink but can also be kept for another 2 or 3 years.
Cousino-Macul is a Chilean winery that just celebrated 150 years in 2006, and is still 100% family owned (by the same family through the years). All wines are estate grown, estate vined and estate bottled, and they take extreme pride in this fact. This Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% grapes from the Maipo Valley, and has been made that way since 1926.The wine has a dark, thick inky/red/purple color in the glass. Tons of black currant on the nose with dark fruit, black cherries, and some vanilla oak. It is dark and dense on the palate with black berries/fruit and medium tannins that gives it a nice round finish.I got this at BevMo at sale for $10.99. At http://www.wine-searcher.com/ and http://www.winezap.com/ you can find it from $9.97.This was a nice wine for a good price. Will I buy it again? Hmmm, maybe as a crowd pleaser...
Before reviewing the Picarus Wrattonbully Cabernet Sauvignon, I’d never heard about the Wrattonbully wine region. So before opening the bottle did a little research and I found that the relatively unknown Wrattonbully wine region is located in South Australian between the Padthaway and Coonawarra wine regions. Apparently according to Wine Australia, there is very little variation in the wines across the three regions.
The Picarus Wrattonbully Cabernet Sauvignon is a full bodied wine with distinct berry and blackcurrant notes and oak flavour. The grapes are nurtured by renowned Coonawarra district viticulturist, Greg Koch and made by ex-Wynns Coonawarra/Southcorp legend, Rob Moody. Greg and Rob first became involved in the production of Picarus with the highly acclaimed 2005 wines.
Picarus recommend that the 2006 Picarus Wrattonbully Cabernet Sauvignon is ready to drink now, but will be in its prime in 5-7 years.
The Picarus brand is Winetrust Estate’s premium wi
