Every year I keep my eyes open for wines that I can serve at the Passover seder; this year, I’m going to recommend this Gedeon Cabernet Sauvignon for the first cup.
The wine has plenty of flavor, and even appeals to those who don’t particularly care for dry wines. With a medium body and [...]

This is an excellent wine at a bargain price. The flavor is good, with a pleasant nose of fruit and vanilla, and the high alcohol content gives it some good bite.
According to the bottle, this wine ought to improve in the bottle for a few years; the tanins were rather mild, but I [...]

I have to admit it: this wine took me by surprise. I wasn’t expecting anything this good. Instead, I this wine turned out to be delightful.
During the past couple of years, wineries in the Judean hills — from the rock-filled mountains near Jerusalem — have started to send wine to the United States. [...]

Some readers may recall that this is one of the wines I selected for myself for the Passover seder. I wanted a wine that was dry and flavorful, and this one qualifies on all counts.
This wine, like others from the Judean Vineyards, comes from the Judean hills — from the vicinity of Jerusalem, [...]
For a Californian wine under 6 dollars, this stuff is great! Rich, and medium bodied, this wine is produced at the Leaping Horse Vineyards in Lodi, California.
I had this wine with a bowl of pasta with marinara, and it was perfect. In fact the back of the bottle reads:
“First choice, enjoy with great company and [...]

This is a very fine wine. Suprisingly, it is good directly out of the bottle even before getting any air, without any harshness despite its high alcohol content.
The wine has a pleasant nose of grape, and after little air, some vanilla as well. One of our tasters noted that it had a “sweetness” [...]

This was an excellent wine for a Shabbat meal. The wine was very flavorful; I noted the dark berry flavors, and even some hints of the “leather” that the winemaker noted on the bottle.
While this wine pairs nicely with standard fare, such as chicken and cholent, I also tried it with a spicy-hot [...]
This cheap wine is a delicious wine for the price ($4.79!). This Argentinian wine really has more to offer than you would expect from a wine that costs less than 5 dollars.
Deep ruby-red in color, this cheap wine was very dry and crisp and had a very agreeable finish that seemed not to overstay its [...]

This Cabernet Sauvignon is part of a group of wines from the Jerusalem area; I’m in the process of putting together a group to taste them all at once, but in the meantime I couldn’t resist opening this bottle.

Glen Ellen Reserve 2003 Cab was the cheap wine of the night last night. Just destroying my pocketbook at a whopping $4.99, this wine provided a nice pairing with the pizza I had delivered.

This is a very nice Cabernet Saugvignon, with good body and good flavor. The winery claims that the wine will continue to develop over the next five to ten years, and I see no reason to doubt them.

This is a very good cab for the money. Clos du Bois is a bigger brand for sure, but for an everyday (or every week) cab, this was solid. [...]
This premium Chilean is an opaque garnet hue with a mature looking rim. Chocolate emerges on opening even as I am pouring my first taste. There are loads of pure fruit. In the mouth this wine is fully mature, integrated with lovely texture yet a tad thin but this is right on opening–the finish lingers.

The History of Cabernet Sauvignon is actually less than six hundred years old which makes it a relative newcomer to the world of wine grapes. The oldest recorded reference (that we know of) to Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the 18th century and Chateau Mouton. It is said that Baron De Brane ripped up his white [...]
The Ramey Jericho Canyon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon has been a favorite of mine for years, and for Valentine's dinner it was time to try the Larkmead Vineyard. The Ramey 2005 Larkmead Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon consists of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 7% Petite Verdot, and 1% Malbec. It has a beautiful dark red/purple garnet color in the glass. The nose shows dark fruit and berries, spice, oak, and toasted brioche. On the palate cherry, plum, black currant, and oak, with earthy mushrooms and elegant fruit on the finish. The tannins are well integrated, but still has that tart edge that you would expect for its youth. We really enjoyed this fruity, earthy cab with good spice and oak, showing of its elegant side on the finish. Jericho Canyon Vineyard is still a noch up for me but
I could not resist picking up a bottle of Valhalla Cellars 2004 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon when I saw it on the shelf in the local grocery store. Being from Sweden with our heritage of Norse Gods and Valhalla I just had to try this wine that I had never heard of before. I just loved the label with the viking ship!Valhalla Cellars was founded in 2001 by Todd Martin and Madeleine Beeler Warner, both of Scandinavian decent. Therefore the name of their label. They are small producers that buy grapes from top vineyards in areas that produce the best quality grapes for the wine they intend to produce. This wine was fermented in open top fermenters with the cap punched down 3 times daily. It was then aged for 21 months in 60% new and 40% two year old French Oak. Only 70 cases produced. The wine has a very dark dense ruby color in the glass with slight cloudiness. Red cherry, dark red currant, liquorice and vanilla meets you on the nose. It is relatively smooth on the palate with red fruit,
Going to Las Vegas last weekend our flight out of Sacramento was delayed for 4 hours, which gave us plenty of time to kill in the airport's wine bar, Vino Volo. Vino Volo is a chain of airport wine bars with five current locations; Seattle, Sacramento, Washington DC, Baltimore and New York, and with plans to expand and open many more locations in the upcoming year.Having the option to visit Vino Volo made me very excited as airport food and drinks, in general, gives me the shivers... Vino Volo adds a touch of sophistication with good quality wine by flight, glass or bottle. Small plates are also served. We tried the cheese plate, chicken panini and the New York skewers with mashed potatoes and peas. All a step above all other airport food I have ever had. I started of with the Pinot Noir wine flight featuring a California pinot from the Molnar Family 2005 Poseidon's Vineyard, from France the Louis Latour 2002 VOLNAY, and from New Zealand the Nevis Bluff 2003 Pinot Noir. A nice flight

Served With: Salmon marinated in reduced balsamic vinegar with capers and herb-scented olive oil
Appearance: Like a garnet stone; deep burgundy with red on the edges where the light shines
Aroma: Cherries, crushed red roses, berry cobbler, currant, oak
Taste: Yummy, slightly fruit taste on the front of the tongue, a mellow middle and a balancing tannic finish.
Comments: If a cobbler was cooked cherries, currants and sweet tobacco in an oak-fired oven it might come close to the taste of this wine. Add the alcohol, of course!! This is one of the more balanced Cabernet Sauvignon wines I’ve had. I loved the balanced tannic finish…it’s like the flavor spreads evenly around your mouth as you swallow creating a very satisfying, warm experience. We decanted this wine

Appearance: Deep purple, rich
Aroma: Faint berries, very light, not much, if any, oak
Taste: A layered wine with smooth cherries on the front with a citrusy finish.
Comments: Hmm…I had to think about this one for a while. This wine doesn’t have the characteristics that I typically applaud in a Cabernet Sauvignon. However, as my wine education grows one of the things I’ve learned is not to judge this, or any, wine based on what I like, rather judge or rate it based on the wine itself and what it is telling me. Kinda like “Deep Thoughts”, with Jack Handy! Anyway, there are some layers present here but no tannins to speak of. I had to go back and double-check the label to make sure this w
Stag's Leap Winery is located in the heart of Stags' Leap District, Napa Valley, on a 240 acre estate. Founded in 1893 it has a rich history. Read more about it at the winery's web site. The grapes for Stags' Leap 2003 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon was handpicked and fermented in small lots in a combination of open and closed top frementers. During frementation it received frequent punch downs. Thereafter it was aged in 50% new and 50% used French oak for 24 months. 2% Cabernet Franc and 2% Merlot was added for structure and depth. In the glass this wine has a dark, dense ruby color. The nose is heavy and earthy with dark plum, cherry, and coffee. Notes of cloves and vanilla enters at the end.The palate displays dusty fruit of plum, dark cherry, and black currant, with earth, spice and a hint of coffee. The tannins are course and firm in moderate amount, and the acidity plentiful. This wine showed the heavy and earthy qualities Cabernet Sauvignon can display. We enjoyed it although I

FELIZ DÍA A TODAS!!! Cousino-Macul is a Chilean winery that just celebrated 150 years in 2006, and is still 100% family owned (by the same family through the years). All wines are estate grown, estate vined and estate bottled, and they take extreme pride in this fact. This Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% grapes from the Maipo Valley, and has been made that way since 1926.The wine has a dark, thick inky/red/purple color in the glass. Tons of black currant on the nose with dark fruit, black cherries, and some vanilla oak. It is dark and dense on the palate with black berries/fruit and medium tannins that gives it a nice round finish.I got this at BevMo at sale for $10.99. At http://www.wine-searcher.com/ and http://www.winezap.com/ you can find it from $9.97.This was a nice wine for a good price. Will I buy it again? Hmmm, maybe as a crowd pleaser...
Before reviewing the Picarus Wrattonbully Cabernet Sauvignon, I’d never heard about the Wrattonbully wine region. So before opening the bottle did a little research and I found that the relatively unknown Wrattonbully wine region is located in South Australian between the Padthaway and Coonawarra wine regions. Apparently according to Wine Australia, there is very little variation in the wines across the three regions.
The Picarus Wrattonbully Cabernet Sauvignon is a full bodied wine with distinct berry and blackcurrant notes and oak flavour. The grapes are nurtured by renowned Coonawarra district viticulturist, Greg Koch and made by ex-Wynns Coonawarra/Southcorp legend, Rob Moody. Greg and Rob first became involved in the production of Picarus with the highly acclaimed 2005 wines.
Picarus recommend that the 2006 Picarus Wrattonbully Cabernet Sauvignon is ready to drink now, but will be in its prime in 5-7 years.
The Picarus brand is Winetrust Estate’s premium wi
