I have been trying to avoid blogging about the radio talk show host Michael Savage. He recently made some nasty comments to the effect that the rise in numbers of children with autism is attributable to something akin to permissive parenting. While his comments are outrageous, they have little to do with the "law" part of the special education law blog. Well I guess it was inevitable that the la
When the story of the disgraced New York’s ex governor Eliot Spitzer broke I wasn’t surprised at all. It’s not that I knew about his rendezvous with high priced hookers, but it’s due to my long experience of driving hookers to men with and without power. Let me break it down for you ladies, if [...]

No one can make you serve customers well. That's because great service is a choice. Years ago, Harvey Mackay, told a wonderful story about a cab driver that proved this point. He was waiting in line for a ride at the airport. When a cab pulled up, the first thing Harvey noticed was that the taxi was polished to a bright shine. Smartly dressed in a white shirt, black tie, and freshly pressed black slacks, the cab driver jumped out and rounded the car to open the back passenger door for Harvey. He handed him a laminated card and said:"I'm Wally, your driver. While I'm loading your bags in the trunk I'd like you to read my mission statement."Taken aback, Harvey read the card. It said:Wally's Mission Statement:To get my customers to their destination in the quickest, safest and cheapest way po
The cabbie made famous for relinquishing the drivers' seat of his taxi to Michael Schumacher is now considering offers to sell the Opel mini-van. Since the nine-seater made international headlines for getting a seven time world champion and his family to a German airport on time, it has doubled in value, the newspaper Bild am Sonntag claims. "More than ten people are interested in buying it," the taxi driver, Tuncer Yilmaz, confirmed. "One has offered 63,000 euros, and I need the money - because of the Schumi-Ride I could be in big trouble with the police," he confirmed. Coburg traffic authority chief Kai Holland confirmed to Bild newspaper that he will meet with Yilmaz, because the story appears to be "an offence against the Personnel Transport Act.' Schumacher, meanwhile, faces the prospect of a small fine. "It would be ridiculous to heavily punish the taxi driver after he kindly helped Michael. Wouldn't we all prefer to have helpful taxi drivers?" Schumacher's long-time mana

The hippocampus is thought to be essential for navigation. Surprisingly, a paper published last year reported that a London Taxi driver, who suffered hippocampus damage on both sides of the brain, could successfully navigate around much of London.
London black cab drivers must pass 'The Knowledge' to get a license.
It involves memorising London streets and being able to work out, from memory, the best route between any two places in the city.
In 2003, neuroscientist Dr Eleanor Maguire and her team won the Ig Nobel Prize (a humorous award for discoveries "that cannot, or should not, be reproduced") for a study that found that the hippocampi of London Taxi drivers were larger than average, possibly because the drivers are constantly exercising their spatial memory.
Despite winning the Ig Nobel, this paper has been very important in understanding both spatial memory and how the brain grows during adult life.
The same team of researchers published a paper last year, loo
A TAXI driver for a Silloth firm will not be banned from the roads, despite having 12 points on his licence and driving without the right licence or insurance.
Robert Tinnion, who drove for Select Cabs, was prosecuted by Allerdale council after an anonymous tip-off.
He appeared at Keswick and West Allerdale Magistrates Court yesterday and admitted driving a taxi without a hackney licence and having no insurance.
But magistrates chose not to ban him because it would cause him “exceptional hardship.”
Tinnion, 45, of Frizington Road, Frizington was given six penalty points and fined £100 for each of the two dates he drove a hackney carriage for Select Cabs without insurance on April 24 and 25, 2006.
There were no separate penalties for the two charges of driving the hackney carriage while unlicensed.
Select Cabs owner, Stanley Glover, 56, of Pica Cottages, Pica, pleaded guilty in court last September to charges of aiding and abetting Tinnion to drive a hackney carriage
