It is loosely based on the flavours of some Thai or Chinese style soups, for example Tom Yam but really its just a home made combination of flavours from Asia. The resulting soup was very spicy and warming, perfect for cold days, and for detoxing and diets too (it is pretty low in calories).I am not sure exactly how much stock was added, it was enough to cover the cabbage in the pan but not so much that it makes for a really sloppy soup. Our solution to his challenge transformed a roll of pleated paper into a small chair that appears naturally as you peel away its outside layers, one layer at a time.Resins added during the original paper production process adds strength and the ability to remember forms, and the pleats themselves give the chair elasticity and a springy resilience, for an overall effect that looks almost rough, but gives the user a soft, comfortable seating ex

      CABBAGE CHAIR
I usually like furniture that has more solid forms and contours. So it comes as a surprise to myself I actually find this Cabbage Chair by Japanese designers Nendo likable. Made of waste paper from the pleated fabric industry, the chair is essentially a roll of pleated paper peeled away carefully from the outside in, layer by layer.Didn't I tell you in my earlier post the Japanese have a way with papers?KUS

      Cabbage Soup
I think I have the weirdest kids. I totally didn't expect them to like this soup but they love it! They ended up having rice with this soup only, totally ignoring the rest of the dishes. My son had an extra 1/2 a bowl of rice and even finished the cabbage in it. Not to mentioned, they finished it rather fast too. This is one of my comfort soup. My mother cooked this a lot when I was young. If you remembered, I mentioned before my mother doesn't really know how to cook. She made this soup using stock cubes and added (minced) meatball in it. So there's soup, veg and meat. No headaches. One dish settled the dinner. Simple *laughs*Here, I used home-made chicken broth instead. It's really simple to make. Just cook 1 litre of broth with 1 to 1 1/2 handful of shredded cabbage for 20 minutes or til

      Braised Red Cabbage With Apple
We were lucky enough to be given a red cabbage from my girlfriends parents allotment at the weekend, so I thought I would do some braised red cabbage with apple. I remember having this one Christmas when my grandparents came over, and for years afterwards my nan was going on about that "Exotic cabbage" we had at Christmas time.I have also made this before without all the spices, just leave them out if they are not to your taste. It is a variation of a recipe from Delia Smith, so pretty much always works well.Ingredients1 red cabbage1/2 cooking apple2 tbsp white wine vinegar1/2 onion1 clove garlic1/4 tsp cinnamon1/4 tsp cloves2 tbsp brown sugarKnob of butterSalt and freshly ground black pepperPeel off the outside cabbage leaves, and then finely shred the cabbage, leaving out the thicker m

Corned Beef and Cabbage – as Irish as Green Budweiser, Killian’s Red and Lucky Charms
As an Irish national holiday for many years, St. Patrick’s Day is now celebrated throughout the world. Celebrations usually include obligatory green garb, free-flowing Guinness and – outside of Ireland - plenty of corned beef and cabbage, which holds the dubious distinction of being the main course of choice on this day of revelry. It occupies this place of honour due to its obvious Irish roots, but exactly how far back do these roots go? Not as far as your average Bennigan’s guest would suspect! No one disputes the popularity of cabbage. Cabbage is a cheap vegetable that was widely used when Ireland was not as economically prosperous as it is today. Yet, it is an extremely versatile vegetable, and remains popular and relevant even in the rapidly evolving cuisine of today’s “

Recipe: Cabbage & Broccolini with Soy Sauce
The following recipe was an accompaniement to Braised Tofu with Shitake Mushrooms which will be posted next week. This one’s quite simple and inspired by Kylie Kwong’s Simple Chinese Cooking where she cooks her vegetables with Oyster Sauce and other ingredients. I’ve simplified this further and reduced the ingredients cutting out a few to allow this to be vegetarian. Cooking time is about five minutes in a wok! Serves: One Ingredients: 6 broccolinis 1/2 cup cabbage chopped roughly 1 tsp soy sauce 1/4 tsp garlic mince 1/4 tsp ginger mince 1/2 tsp sesame oil salt white pepper Instructions: Place the cabbage and broccolini in the wok and slowly place the ingredients in individually mixing. Once the broccolini has gone bright green and the cabbage has softened, use some tongs to place on your plate. Pour the sauce onto the plate and season with salt and white pepper. After 5 minutes of cooking place the smoked sausage on top of the potatoes to heat the sausage. Melt in a pan a knob of butter and slowly heat the 450g deep frosted curly cabbage on medium heat. Drain the potatoes and add the curly cabbage. Combine the potatoes and curly cabbage with a masher. Cut the smoked sausage and serve! To make it even more Dutch make some gravy with it! Enjoy! Cabbage Flower Birthday Card
This is a birthday card that I've made for a friend of mine. It's a rather simple card as compared to some of my cards. I've stamped on almost every piece of papers that I used here. To add some softness to it, I've added a strip of ribbon on it. I've created a cabbage flower for this card. (Refer to "Create you own Cabbage Flower" in my tips and tricks section) It is attached using some foam adhesives to give some dimensions to the card.

      Pensylvania Dutch Red Cabbage
When I was growing up, I lived in a small town in Pennsylvania for a few years.  I can remember my Dad taking us all out to eat at a homestyle Amish restaurant on several occasions.  Those meals linger in my memory as I recall such dishes as meatballs with gravy, apple dumplings, panfried scrapple with syrup, the homemade garlic laden pickles that came to the table as part of a relish tray, fresh bread smeared with apple butter, a thick juicy ham steak and a country red cabbage that just melted in my mouth.  Ahhh!  What I've always loved about this style of cooking is its simplicity.  No, that does not mean it sports one dimensional flavor.  Amish cooking has a basic "feel" to it that reflects the here and now of what many Pennsylvania Dutch farmers have eaten over the years.  Here is a recreation of that wonderful red cabbage...Ahh!

      Cabbage Kootu
Finally I am able to post this recipe after so many procrastinations. Looking back on my recent posts, looks like I haven't been able to keep up the pace of one post daily regime! Well I guess everybody needs sometime off to just do nothing on some front too. I was even trilled that few readers asked me why no recipe after just 3 days. That touched me a lot. Thanks for taking care to drop in and check on my blog. It makes a real difference. I suddenly felt I have nothing to blog on, though I still have many recipes pictured but not posted yet. I guess everybody goes through this phase. Well whatever it is hope the bug passes off fast!Coming back to Cabbage Kootu, though I am not a great fan of Cabbage, this is one dish that I love eating. But of course it has to be prepared by Amma. I don't like my version too. Still the other day when I found cabbage to be lying around with a dejected look, couldn't think of any other form to consume but this and also its been real long time since

      Cabbage Soup
I love soup. I really love soup with a hearty wonderful vegetable broth. I also look foods that are kind of old (as far as recipes go, not expiration date). This one came from Russia from what I understand as is part of the controversial cabbage soup diet. If you lived on nothing but water and this soup for a week you probably would loose quiet a bit of weight during that time. Thats one of the reasons I went looking for it. Cabbage of almost any kind lasts for a long time in the fridge and its very low calorie. This does sound tasty though. At least if you like vegetables which I do. I think you could do without the chicken broth since chicken broth has a lot of fat and calories. 3 cups nonfat beef broth or nonfat vegetable broth or nonfat chicken broth (beef is the best) 2 garlic cloves, minced 1 tablespoon tomato paste 2 cups chopped cabbage 1/2 yellow onion 1/2 cup chopped carrots 1/2 cup green beans 1/2 cup chopped zucchini 1/2 teaspoon basil 1/2 teas
