PEARLY-DEWDROPS' DROPS(ORIGINAL 12" VERSION)Here's a track from probably the best band ever to come out of Scotland. Cocteau Twins were formed in 1980 and were named after the song The Cocteau Twins by fellow Scotsmen 'Johnny and the Self-Abusers' (who later renamed themselves Simple Minds). The band's influences at the time included Joy Division, The Birthday Party, Sex Pistols and Siouxsie & The Banshees. Although the entire band was praised for their performances, the band's vocalist Elizabeth Fraser received the most attention. At times barely decipherable, Fraser seemed to veer into glossolalia and mouth music. In 1984 the band released the 12" E.P. The Spangle Maker which featured two versions of Pearly-Dewdrops' Drops (7" & 12" Versions) and two other B-sides. The track would
Bust of Jean Cocteau(before la Chapelle St. Pierre)Villefranche sur Mer, France28 November 96On the 27th, I hopped the train to Eze. The train stops at Eze Bord de Mer, right on the sea. Not really knowing where I was going (sound familiar?), I looked for some tourist information. The kiosk was closed so I looked around and spied a small sign that said "Chemin de Nietzsche". Ok, I thought, I'll walk the trail. It looked like it might head up to the main village of Eze. It was a very nice walk although I must have turned off the trail at a certain point because suddenly I was in the brambles and climbing a very steep incline. I looked back and was surprised at the height I'd reached. It seemed closer for me to reach the top then to head back down so I continued up the rough terrain.
Nesta participação conhecem Simon Raymonde, que iría substituir Will Heggie no baixo.Actualmente, os membros dos Cocteau Twins continuam activos musicalmente, destacando-se Eliza

From the start, Heaven... is simply fantastic: on "Cherry-Coloured Funk," Guthrie's inimitable guitar work chimes leading a low-key but forceful rhythm, while Raymonde's grand bass work fleshes it out. Fraser simply captivates; her vocals are the clearest, most direct they've ever been, purring with energy and life. Many songs have longer openings and closings; rather than crashing fully into a song and then quickly ending, instead the trio carefully builds up and eases back. These songs are still quite focused, though, almost sounding like they w

Rather than trying for a full-band approach, Fraser and Guthrie instead created a much more simply beautiful effort, with a relaxed air to it. Rhythms are subtler, with bass and drum machine often totally eschewed in favor of Guthrie's delicate guitar filigrees and lush, produced textures. Fraser is, as always, in wonderfully fine voice; her words are quite indecipherable, but the feelings are no less strong for it. "Lazy Calm" starts things perfectly, as deep, heavily-treated guitar strums combine with a heavy flange and guest saxophone from Dif Juz

Whereas the typical vision of the Twins is of beautiful washes of sounds and exultant vocals from Fraser, on Garlands the trio is still only part of the way there. Instead, the best comparison points are to the Cure on Faith and Pornography, perhaps Metal Box-era PiL, a touch of Joy Division here and there -- in sum, deep, heavy mood verging on doom and gloom. Bassist Will Heggie, in the only full album he did with the Twins, clearly follows the Peter Hook/Simon Gallup style of low, ominous throb, while Guthrie's guitar work more often than not screeches loudly than shimmers. IT'S CHRISTMAS #16The Cocteau Twins did a great version of 'Frosty The Snowman' which was released in 1992. It was originally on the various artists compilation 'Volume 5'. Here it is today as my christmas choice.Cocteau Twins - Frosty The Snowman
This was the first session from the Cocteau Twins. Formed in Grangemouth in 1982 the band caught the attention of 4AD records guru Ivo Watts and released their debut album "Garlands" in the June. Naturally John Peel was amongst the first to recognise exellence of the band and request that they visit Maida Vale to record a session. The results of which can be heard below. Another two sessions were recorded for the program and will undoubtedly appear on this site in due course. Robin - GuitarLiz - Lead VocalsWill - Bass Cocteau Twins - Peel Session 15/7/19821.
