Reports: Couric out at CBS News
If the reports in today's newspapers are any indication, it appears Katie Couric could be on her way out as anchor of the CBS Evening News, possibly as soon as right after the Presidential Inauguration.Couric, who took over for interim anchor Bob Schieffer, has had close to 2 million fewer viewers than Schieffer did at certain points, though she was supposed to be the savior of the program. CBS News took a serious hit when Dan Rather's credibility was called into question several years ago over several stories involving President Bush's service in the Texas Air National Guard.CBS has also been in the midst of serious cutbacks in its news division, and dumping Couric's $15 million annual salary could help put the division back on track financially.

CBS News/AP: Study: Lethal Injection Method Flawed - Study: Execution Drugs Sometimes Fail To Work, Causing Inmates To Die Slow, Painful DeathsExcerpt:"The drugs used to execute prisoners in the United States sometimes fail to work as planned, causing slow and painful deaths that probably violate constitutional bans on cruel and unusual punishment, a new medical review of dozens of executions concludes.Even when administered properly, the three-drug lethal injection method appears to have caused some inmates to suffocate while they were conscious and unable to move, instead of having their hearts stopped while they were sedated, scientists said in a report published Monday by the online journal PLoS Medicine. No scientific groups have ever validated that lethal injection is humane, the authors write. Medical ethics bar doctors and other health professionals from taking part in executions."http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/04/23/ap/health/main2719667.shtmlAlex

      CBS News Replacing YouTube Videos
While not exactly dealing with Jericho, CBS News announced that they’re pulling all of the illegal copies on YouTube for their shows, but instead of just leaving people hanging, they’ll be adding in their own versions on YouTube at their channel. “We’ve got a team of lawyers that goes through pirated CBS News videos on YouTube and calls up YouTube every day and says ‘you’ve got to take down these clips’. Every pirated 60 Minutes clip that goes up on YouTube, we’re putting up the authentic, authorized version of that clip. We’re sensitive. If we’re going to take down that illegal video, we are certainly going to give you the experience of that piece [by supplying a new clip] and often the quality is considerably better.” The fact that they’re putting up their own versions on YouTube really speaks for the fact that they’re really aware of the way the web is changing the way to promote things.
