First it fought with the sugar by launching the sugar alternative - Sugarfree Natura and now its fighting with butter by relaunching the brand Nutralite.Nutralite is table margarine. I read on Mike's Blog: Aussie Bodybuilder (extra point for me for following new linking format!) that he's giving up nuts and cheese for his current mission. Cheese used to be a big trigger food for me too. Not so much anymore. But nuts? Fugedaboutit! I could eat a cup of nuts without blinking an eye. So I've learned not to indulge frequently and to only buy small quantities.
In fact, I buy
This morning has been a domino effect of bad baking experiences. First, I ruined a cookie by I don’t know how. It just wasn’t good. Second, I messed up a brownie by forgetting to add half the flour. This has happened enough times for me ...

This must be one of the more amusing ‘debunkings’ of evolution I’ve seen thus far. Have a look. think of it as a kind of ‘how many layers of stupid can you find’ game. I love the little speech given by the frumpy lady starting about ten seconds in.
Several videos follow the break.

Yummy Mummies everywhere have been raving about this product causing a buying frenzy at local Waitrose shelves! It was picked up on www.mumsnet.com, women started applying the nappy cream to their faces (goodness only knows why!!) & found it could work miracles as a face cream - "I can't even remember what made me put it on my face one day but OMG - it is fab.! It has a smooth texture, non-greasy & is said to have a plumping effect especially around the eyes as well as being a great make-up base. Some Mums have said it rivals even the best of the higher end brands such as Creme de la Mer & has given them fresh dewy skin like they were teenagers again - "I have been using it constantly for 2 weeks now and my skin now has the smoothest texture, which I don't think it's had since prepubescence
Toward the end of the golf course, Harry somehow managed to hit his ball into the woods. He found it in a patch of pretty yellow buttercups. Trying to get his ball back in play, he ended up trashing just about every buttercup in the patch. All of a sudden ...POOF! In a flash and puff of smoke, a little old woman appeared. She said,"I'm Mother Nature! Do you know how long it took me to make those buttercups? Just for that, you won't have any butter for your popcorn the rest of your life; better still; you won't have any butter for your toast for the rest of your life . . . . . As a matter of fact, you won't have any butter for anything the rest of your life!"THEN POOF! . . . . she was gone. After Harry got a hold of himself, he hollered for his friend,"Fred, where are you?"Fred yells back, "

Thanks Darwin Bell For Use of his Photo.I found this recipe in The Sweet Melissa Baking Book, Which I will review in a future post. This recipe sounds so good. I love ginger and cardamom. And maple butter is one of those taste memories from childhood- my grade school would have waffle days, and they would serve these waffles made from scratch, big pale yellow round ones the size of a plate. The waffles were barely browned - so that they were soft and warm and not crusty on the outside. And on the top they would serve a scoop of fluffy maple butter, so when you spread it onto the waffle, the maple butter would sink into the individual spaces in the grid, exploding into your mouth at each bite....yumm! I have never forgot that taste. To Make Hot Pepper Ging

11 year old Tyler Hemmert survived after a butter knife was stuck in his head when another boy became angry with him and his friend and hurled the knife. He was lucky that the knife only grazed his skull. Doctors was able to remove and he was left with a five stitches and a story to tell.“The CAT scan showed that indeed it was just under his scalp,” Dr. Andy Reed told NBC News reporter John Larson. “There were no fractures obvious to the skull.” Tyler, who equated the pain to a bee sting, left the hospital with just five stitches. “I’m feeling fine right now,” he said. “It doesn’t hurt right now at all.” With the scar has also come some notoriety for Tyler. Some friends, he says, have even called him “Butterhead.” Link

Ok I think this will be my last post on dosas. Not that I have had enough of them. Believe me, in my dictionary there is no such word like No for Dosas. But I have to consider my family too right. Every other day, they are subjected to different versions and each one is highly treated with great expectations of the end result. Let me tell you one thing, all the different varieties that I have tried have all turned out to be simply delicious! I come to the conclusion that anything and everything on or in the dosa, will taste great! For the record, I have posted 28 dosas till date and about 13 after the mela announcement. I feel bad that I couldn't make more. But then of course, I now have so many varieties to try and make it 101 varieties! Coming to these varieties, I finally did what I was

Spring has officially begun in California, but we still see some scattered showers, like mother nature is trying to tease us before the sunny summer kicks in! But this saturday, we were glad to have some rain, only because it gave a boost to our cravings to eat something hot and spicy, rich and tasty! The paneer in my fridge was put to good use when I decided to make the eternal favorite, Paneer Butter Masala, yes, that velvetty smooth gravy that has all the goodness of indian spices combined with cubes of cottage cheese and garnished with cream and coriander! Now do I have your attention??! Paneer Butter Masala is similar to other paneer gravies, except that as the name implies, it is more rich due to butter and the gravy is thickened by using onions, tomatoes and cashew paste rather than

Pour hot syrup in a thin stream into yolks, beating constantly. As the mixture cools, it will become thick and light. Continue to beat for a few minutes and then set aside until entirely cooled. If the syrup has not been cooked sufficiently, no amount of beating will make the mixture thick enough. If the syrup has been cooked too long, it will not beat smoothly into the egg

-- By Jules NewmarkSkin Like Butter Lotion$10.00Available at: skinlikebutter.comThe Skin Like Butter Shea Oil Lotion smothers your senses with its perfumed smell as you apply even a small amount to your dry hands. The texture is exactly as the title says, oily. The saving grace of this buttery concoction is the lasting effect of the lotion on your moisture-starved pores. The typical lotion that lasts for a mere few hours or less is left behind the long-lasting Skin Like Butter. While the smell might be described as overwhelming by some, the simple blue bottle provides no real solace to the boutique-loving, modern soul that might be sold on sight alone. Compared to Kai Body Lotion which envelopes the user in a tropical Gardenia fragrance and leaves your skin supple and greaseless, this Shea

!!! TRADITIONAL COMFORT FOOD AT ITS ABSOLUTE BEST !!! Okay, yes I know, my blog has turned into a bit of a Chef's Guide rather than a Travel Guide - but the weather has been really poor recently. Subsequently, I haven't been clambering up mountains too often, but rather have stayed in the comfort of my own home and have been dabbling about in the kitchen.Today's dish is a sweet and is affectionately known as Bread and Butter Pudding. (I promise that this will be my last recipe for a while - and don't worry, I won't be giving up my day job!!!!).Once a 'waste not, want not' way of using up stale bread and making an inexpensive family desert, this modest dish has now been elevated to the ranks of gourmet cooking.____________________________________________INGREDIENTS 6 slices of day-old whit

Last night's dinner turned out phenomenally well, a creamy mix of rigatoni and white beans. The most amazing part was the sauce naturally created from the starchy pasta and beans combined with browned garlic butter.
I intended to make this using penne but realized the penne I recently bought was very small for some reason. I wanted a larger shape and found a bag of rigatoni instead. I
I'm going to 'talk' less and post more. I'm going to try to get more recipes out. My list of upcoming recipes are getting too long and I'm losing my notes (just realised the kids are colouring my food pictures on my notes :P) So, sorry if I seem less 'chatty' or perhaps you are glad I am. *laughs*Anyway, this is one of the kid's favourites and mine too. I have over baked this but luckily it's only the outer layer that's a bit dry and crumbly. The rest was still nice.Ingredients: 5 Eggs 180 Sugar 200g Self Raising Flour, sifted 250g Butter, soften 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla Essence 80g Raisin, soaked to soften and dried (omit to make butter cake) How to do it: Grease baking tin. Reheat oven at 170C Beat butter and sugar till creamy and light. Add egg one at a time and mix until well combined. Add

Mix all ingredients, except fish. Roll mixture in plastic wrap and refrigerate. Slice butter
mixture, put over fish. Bake or broil.
And now for something completely different! After all that healthy raw food, how could I resist coating my entire kitchen with a nice layer of sunflower oil? I mean, sometimes, we've all just got to say to ourselves, "Yep... SO taking a shower after this."I've always been a huge fan of banana fritters. Well, actually, deep fried bananas in any sort of fashion. Jeremy and I used to get bananas that were rolled in coconut before being put into an egg roll wrapper for deep frying, but I've got to say I like these better. The batter is made with almond meal and minced dried coconut, which gives it more substance than if I had just used a fine flour. Also, the tangy orange blossom honey cuts the grease a little bit, and gives it a kick, which is really nice. The mint butter is a very nice finish

I like butter. I don’t like margarine (it’s just not natural). Butter is expensive. Butter does not spread. Spreadable butter is even more expensive.
But I thought the only options were A) use margarine or B) spend lots of money on the spreadable butter.
I started researching all the different things I could do to get cheaper, [...]
Until this point, Red Delicious apples have been the bane of my existence. I like their flavour, but the thick, tough skin wrapped around that all-too-mealy interior was enough for me to pass on a side a fruit with my meals as a child. It was hard to say no to fruit. Gramma's heart was in the right place when she put out bowls of fruit for us, but I just couldn't stomach it. I'll take the oranges, thanks.Notice how I said "Until this point"? I believe that (almost) everything, if done a certain way, can taste good to someone. Jeremy, in his loving attempt to buy me more apples, accidentally got red delicious. Ouch. (In his defense, those did look strikingly like Galas.)Seeing this as a culinary challenge (and also being on a raw food binge lately) I decided to make applesauce. Applesauce,

Every jar of peanut butter contains a deadly contaminant that causes suffering and death of both livestock and man. No, it is not saturated fat. 100 g textured soy chunks100 g peanuts100 g sesame seedssoy milk1 Tbsp brown sugar1/2 tsp salt1/2 tsp citric acid (optional!)Roast peanuts and sesame seeds (separately) until lite golden color, do not roast too much because it can get bitter. Peel peanuts and and grind them with sesame in a poppy seed grinder. Add sugar, salt and citric acid and puree in blender. Use soy milk to control thickness. In this recipe citric acid is completely optional and it's here in order to prevent butter to change color. If you don't feel comfortable with citric acid as a food additive, just omit it.Store butter in a fridge for 7 days. It never stayed longer than that time in mine so I'm not quite sure about keeping it for longer period of time.
I love this tenderloin .The flavor is wonderful and the meat comes out so tender every time. I make the gravy with the drippings and pour it over the sliced pork and even add a tablespoon or so onto my baked potato.I reserve this for cold winter nights because it does seem to be a heavier type dinner. But it is a great comfort food.I serve this ,always, with either baked potatoes are garlic mashed potatoes.I have to have a potato dish to use the gravy on! I know, even before I begin, that this is going to stimulate an 'enthusiastic' response in certain quarters. But the fact remains: I like Butter. I like eating it, I like cooking with it, I love the smell of things being fried in it.....and, frankly, I think it's had a rather a bum rap over the years....Whenever it was that the demon Cholesterol first swam into view, I think it has much to answer for, in terms of the blight it generally casts - in many instances, perfectly unnecessarily - over the lives of the many. And despite the existence of the French, Cholesterol seems to have achieved a stranglehold over the minds of large swathes of the population.......not least the denizens of the medical profession (in certain parts of the western World, at any rate). And what, pray, have th
Yesterday I went to great lengths to bake peanut butter kiss cookies to reminisce. Sometimes the weight of what we remember seems to dictate and equally weighty act of commemoration. But memories don’t always conform to this neat little formula. More often than not the most absurdly mundane things get embodied with special significance in the stuff of memories. There are many different ingredients in products that we use everyday. However shampoo, lotion, cream, moisturizer, bubble bath, and hundreds of other products all have one ingredient in common; Shea Butter. What makes this ingredient so remarkable is that it is one of the few ingredients that can be consumed. In many parts of the world, it is used as cooking oil. Shea butter is considered to be a healthy alternative to any other form of emollient. It is not the most aromatic food in the world however it is used to promote healthy cooking and healthy skin. It is made from the fruit of the Shea Tree. The process is really quite simple. The fruit is removed from the tree and then boiled and crushed into a green, creamy substance. It is world renowned for it healing properties; however it is also renowned for its anti-aging properties. While many people do not realize the full potential of what this substance's properties really are, they are not aware that this skin care ingredient is i

Just as wreaths, stockings and mistletoes signify the spirit of christmas, cookies and cakes do their part in spreading the joy all around. As the festival of christmas is just a few days away, people have started baking goodies and packing them in decorative tin boxes and wrapping papers, shipping them across to their loved ones and friends, wishing them joy and success in the days to come. Some flavors and smells reign the kitchens in these festive days, including, but not limited to chocolate, peppermint, vanilla, and of course, gingerbread! Joining in the fun and having found a reason to bake more often, I decided to go for a batch of these beautiful pink and white Swirl Cookies flavored with peppermint and vanilla. I love the candy canes and the beautiful ribbon patterns that they form, but I can't take too much of peppermint in one go. So here's the perfect solution, these basic sugar cookies, with a hint of peppermint and all the goodness of the lovely colors.Ingredients1 cup
In addition to all of the interesting and new things I saw when I was at the New York City Chocolate Show, there were some old favorites as well that I was just as excited to see. One of those was Peanut Butter & Co, which is a company that specializes in gourmet peanut butter and has its own restaurant here in New York.
What’s a peanut butter company doing at a Chocolate Show, you may ask? Well, what does peanut butter go so well with? Chocolate, of course! Out of all the gourmet flavors of peanut butter that Peanut Butter & Co make, two of them are with chocolate: “Dark Chocolate Dreams” and “White Chocolate Wonderful.” All I can say is, when I tasted the White Chocolate Wonderful several years ago for the first time, I knew I couldn’t eat regular peanut butter ever again. It’s that good.
At the Chocolate Show they were excited to unveil their newest peanut butter creation: the Ultimate Peanut Butter Cup Collection! The collection h
Have you ever tried infused oils before? A couple of weeks ago, I headed to the Olive Grove Festival, near my home town. It’s a yearly festival, where you can try wines, beers and mostly fresh olives, oils and tapenades. It’s a great event and I absolutely love trying the wines, but favourite thing there is the olive oil. So many varieties from different regions and different styles.
It’s the first time I’ve had the infused oils, and, after picking up some garlic infused olive oil, I simply had to use it for this dish with butter beans and fetta.
Now, I’ve never really had butter beans as a feature in a meal before, and it’s certainly not going to be the last time now that I’ve had them like this.
It’s a light fresh dish that is great for a hot and sultry summer night. The basil and mustard add a sharp, but fresh bite to the meal, almost cleansing your palate.
Serve this pasta with a nice white wine!

Starting with Thanksgiving I get to enjoy a winter of one of my favorite fruits; cranberries! I love cranberry cakes, bars, muffins, scones and desserts not to mention cranberry juice and drinks! Oh, and cranberry crisp. Mmmm. Just the thought of all these gorgeous desserts with deep red jeweled cranberries make me smile.
I have leftover whole cranberries that I made into a sauce for
Ghrta is clarified butter. Since cow was in abundance in the Vedic age, there was also abundance of ghŗta. As such, it was a matter of great use in life. It was used in sacrifices as well as was an important ingredient of food. Consequently it has found a significant place in the Vedas.Ghŗta was used during the Vedic period as well as throughout the whole history of India as a delicious and extremely nourishing food content is evident from the heavenly damsel Urvaśī’s statement in the Ŗgveda that she took a lump of ghŗta only once a day and on the strength of it moved around fully contented even after four years of departure from Pururavas. (Ŗgveda X.95.16 )As the Vedic seer was in the quest of the essence of things, he did not permit the product of milk stop at the stage of butter. He saw to it that the butter could be made rather durable. With this end in view, he clarified it and thus could produce ghŗta, which is durable and can assume two forms, solid and liquid without
Why is Japan awesome? There are many reasons and here’s another one to add to the list. Already sliced butter! Who thinks of this stuff, seriously? They should give it it’s own name. I’d name it Awesome Butter. Pre-sliced butter has changed my life.

I have the pleasure of introducing one of our most expected products: Chamomile Sage Body Butter I am sorry it took us so long to start making it but we are in the middle of a very busy season. From now on, this product will be one of our regulars.
Now, a few details on this excellent body butter. It contains 20% naturally refined Shea butter; it is rich and creamy and it absorbs very easily into the skin leaving it incredibly smooth and moisturized. It is enriched with Vitamin E to help nourish and revitalize the skin without leaving any greasy feeling. The fragrance is mild and persistent.
We recommend it for all skin types. However, if you have any skin condition, please read the ingredients carefully and talk to your doctor first.

Fear of stretch marks ranks high with many expectant mothers on their list of concerns about pregnancy; my wife is no exception. As soon as she found out she was pregnant she began moisturizing her belly with religious fervor, as though it were made of gator hide. Not only was she concerned about stretch marks, but as her tummy grew larger her skin in that area began to itch and become more sensitive. While waiting for a train home from a New York business trip, I stopped in to L'Occitane in Grand Central Station to pick her up a small gift before my return. She loves that brand and as a newly invigorated skin care addict, I thought something from there would be an appropriate present. I set out to find shea butter as that was the one product I actually recalled her mentioning. However, when I first saw the price on the tin I was sure that it must include a personal masseuse to apply the moisturizer. That was not the case.In spite of my initial sticker shock I ended up buying the shea
I feel all out of sorts. As though I've stepped out of time, really. I mean, how how how has it gotten to be mid-November already? What is this craziness? I honestly don't know where the time has gone. I hope that some of this changes after Thanksgiving, when I start my NEW JOB(!!!), because not only are the hours a little better, but my daily commute will consist of a walk across the street. In addition to the regained time, I hope to get a little sanity and happiness back.... both of which are necessary, I think, for a more present life. More present, more awareness of time, more blogging. I am counting the days.Something you will have to forgive me for in the meantime is the disconnection of my entries to when they actually happened. I'd cook, I'd photograph, I'd even enter the recipe and picture into blogger... and then I'd walk away from the computer. I have our anniversary cakes from the end of October, I have Dave's birthday dinner and cake from early November, I have...
I wanted to like this more than I did. And I think its all my fault. I thought it was weird that only the chorizo got a turn in the pan... and I wanted to have warm beans and tomatoes... So... once the chorizo was browned a little, I tossed everything else into the pan. Do not do this at home. What ended up happening was all the chorizo oil got onto everything else.. so every bite tasted like it, regardless of what you put into your mouth. Now, if you like that sort of thing, feel free to replicate. Now, what I would do differently is: Follow the instructions. Now that I've had some time to think about it, I think the differences in temperature would have been a nice contrast... or maybe I would heat the veggies in a separate pot... either way... don't let your chorizo oil ruin your dinner. Again, unless you're into that. ;)Butter Beans with Parsley, Tomatoes and Chorizoc/o Food and Wine Magazine, May 20071 14 oz can butter beans with their liquid½ pound chorizo, halved lengthwise a
This meal had us surrounded. I first read about the brown buttered corn on Molly's site, Orangette. She says she doubled the recipe for a party of 6, but doubled, this corn made three people very happy. Then I saw the fished-up version on a round-up on Apartment Therapy: The Kitchen... Or vice-versa... the dates of each article would imply that I found it on AP before Orangette... but I don't remember.. doesn't really matter. What does matter, is that this corn has made it around (and if the no knead bread or the snickerdoodle muffins are any indication, this lovely corn will be around for a while!!)Now, with corn out of season, I used bagged frozen organic corn - two bags, in fact. A ton of butter, lots of thyme... This meal is another example of how just a few simple ingredients can make a lot of impact. The blitz in the blender with the lemon and garlic really made the corn pop. Really. Really pop. (Please make this and eat it.)Now. I did struggle with the fish. Choosing the fish

Here's a nice change to the regular Indian style cottage cheese/paneer curry. It combines the best of paneer tikka (which has a smoked flavor) & butter paneer. I made this up one day when the kids were losing interest at the dinner table, and I had paneer on hand which I wanted to add to the menu! The flavour turned out very nice indeed; and the kids enjoyed it a lot. I dare say this would taste just as well with chicken too, but have yet to try it.Ingredients:Paneer/cottage cheese – 250gms (NOT CUT INTO PIECES)Piece of coal – 1 smallGhee – few dropsTomotao Puree – 200mlOnion – 1/ chopped fineCapsicum – 1 / chopped f

Obviously my brains have shut off... or else I would have posted this sooner... because we had it weeks ago! Maybe I saved it because all we were eating was pasta... wanted to spread it out... Except that that phase hasn't really stopped... we're still pasta-crazy! There are worse things to be.Right. So. I won't lie, I made the ravioli some Sunday afternoon while the Mister watched football. Weeks ago. I might have had football on the radio, but its more likely I had my ipod going. I'm not sure what got into me, but I was in a mood, so I made my own dough and then rolled it out and then filled it. Oh wait, I know what it was... I got this multi-pack of cookie/biscuit cutters... (notice the cute little scalloped edge?)... Why make my own pasta when the recipe so happily calls for wonton wrappers? I don't like wonton-wrapper ravioli. I don't know if I'm just doing something wrong, but they come out all weird and squiggly... not my favorite. That, and I find the production of pasta
I decided to write about random thoughts that come to my mind. Queen Helene’s Cocoa Butter Hand and Body Lotion is currently on my mind. This particular lotion I’ve used on and off. My mother and I used to be frequent dollar store shoppers and we’d buy this lotion. One 32 fl oz bottle would last soooo long. As the years progressed we stopped going to the dollar store, the household budget increased, we started getting Vaseline brand lotion. I got used to Vaseline and other non generic brands so when I moved out I continued buying the more expensive lotions.
NOW.
Greg goes through lotion very quickly. He has to put lotion on every crevice of his body. He already has loooong legs, so do I, but he has more leg to go around, lol. We find ourselves buying a bottle of Suave, St. Ive’s, or whatever brand is cheaper each week or so. Greg’s used to using Jergen’s but we cannot afford Jergen’s the way he goes through it! You realize how hard you have it
Inspector visited ConAgra plant but agency dropped the ballAt least four deaths blamed on subsequent Salmonella outbreak The Salmonella peanut butter outbreak that is blamed for killing at least four and sickening hundreds early last year, was not the first instance of a Salmonella outbreak in a batch of Peter Pan peanut butter for the ConAgra Foods company.Nor did it come as a surprise to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which had failed to follow up on earlier problems at the plant that produced the contaminated peanut butter.Documents obtained by ConsumerAffairs.com through a Freedom of Information Act request reveal that ConAgra discovered “microbial problems” in October 2004.Link to complete story: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2007/10/peanut_butter_recall17.html ~Sandy G.
