The Tibet-Butler Preserve located on SR 535 is a little known oasis in SW Orlando. I’ve been driving by the place for years and never stepped foot in the place. For some reason, I was compelled to check it out one day and I must say it’s pretty neat. The nature trails are wonderful especially this time of the year when the weather is just right. The Vera Carter Environmental Center welcomes you to the property with some compelling displays about the native wildlife in the area and gets you amped to see some swallowed tail kites, red tailed hawks, ospreys, or some bald eagles that are supposed to be in the preserve in great numbers. I was excited about the idea of photographing some of these birds but only saw some blue jays and cardinals by the bird feeders. Maybe next time. The preserve covers 440 acres and 4 miles of trails of which the Osprey Outlook Trail is the best. Last week I promised, but didn't exactly guarantee, a review of Robert Olen Butler's From Where You Dream, a book I happened upon and read a couple of weeks back. In a providential turn of events, I found this review by none other than Carolyn See, author of one of my favorite books of recent memory. She seemed to think the book was a rehash of old ideas. I thought most of the ideas were pretty fresh and inspiring, although I haven't studied as extensively on writing like See has. I agreed with her that Butler's practice of including his critiques of student exercises was a bit odd - she goes so far as to call it cruel. And in the most interesting twist of the whole book, student Rita Mae Reese's short story nearly (clearly?) outshone Butler's own example. Check out See's review and decide for whether you deem Butler to be a worthy read.

The Talking Butler is one of the funniest butlers I've seen!When first attached to the bottle he announces "WELCOME TO THE PARTY!", as the night wears on he tends to get more drunk which is reflected by what he says "His is going well", "Jolly good vintage", "Do you come here often?", "Very very drunk!", "Burp!", etc.). The Browns have announced that they have signed offensive lineman Kelly Butler to a two-year extension. Butler was claimed off the wire back in September and took over for Ryan Tucker after he was placed on the Non-Football IR for an undisclosed mental condition. Butler did about as well as he could have been expected to, and it's good to see that the Browns are rewarding players that want to play. Butler is obviously not going to be the one that bolsters this sad line, but I would guess that every little bit helps... The Bulls were unfortunately disqualified for Ben Gordon shooting too early. This is unfortunate, but Gordon has to know when to take his shoot.Next, I want to talk about the hilarious race between Sir Charles and Dick Bavetta. Charles really lead all the way and showed his great skills. Also, they raised good money for charity after the race.Jason Kapono stole the show in the three point shootout, and the Heat won not only one but two events with Wade winning the skills challenge. I thought Agent Zero would be right there, but he lost his rhythm after the first round of shooting. The biggest disappointment in this contest was Jason Terry, who scored 10 in the first round and was easily ousted.In the best contest of the night, Gerald Green took home the crown in the Slam Dunk contest.
