I won't lie- I have a new love in my life these days, and it's someone other than my fiance (cue shock and awe here...). A relatively new arrival to the American fashion scene is this collection of sportswear for women by Ms Burch. I love these clothes because they're elegant, classic and smart-casual. It's also great the way ethnic details are included in designs, and that touch of internationalism really makes the clothes more chic. I think Tory's worked at Ralph Lauren, Vera Wang and Loewe, so it's no surprise that she's made a line for stylish women who are trend-aware but not strict trend-followers. So the price isn't that cheap, but compared to high-end products of similar design, they aren't bad. We're talking around $300 for a dress, and $200 for sandals.So, how's the Spring collection? I never saw 'Frida' but I heard it was a great movie. Looking at this bag, I think it's safe to assume that Tory Burch saw the film and was perhaps inspired by Mexican art. But is that really an excuse to design a hideous handbag? Her 'Frida' Canvas Tote is (I'm assuming), meant to have a Mexican feel, but it winds up looking cheap and tacky. It looks like a novelty bag that was purchased at a Mexican street fair - something you might hang on your wall as a souvenir, but certainly not meant to be carried out of the house. And priced at $295, it better come with a Frida Kahlo original.What do you think: haute or not?
