      “A Bunch Of Over-The-Hill Slappers”
Judge Timothy Nash, jailed three women yesterday for drunkenly mugging a man and taking his wallet. After watching CCTV footage of them attacking and robbing James McCabe, 31, as he sat drunkenly on a bench in Kent, called them “a bunch of over-the-hill slappers”. Good for him, spot-on! The trial at Canterbury Crown Court heard [...]

A bunch of mantas at the Kona manta ray night dive tonight...
We did the manta dive tonight after doing the morning trip also. I'm making this post quick, gotta hit the hay for a few hours and get up for tomorrow's charter - we've been staying quite busy despite being the slow time of year.... How slow is it you may ask... this last Saturday the only other dive charters I saw on the water were the two companies that service primarily Japanese clientele and two companies that have been here for over 25 years. Saturdays seem to be generally a slower dive day because it's a travel day or "the last full day in Kona so I'll do something other than dive" day for a lot of people. We've been going out consistantly, be we are running a bit light (as far as number of divers on the boat) often, going out with a light load beats not going out at all though. Here

      Storm Force by Chris Bunch
“Storm Force” is number three in the four book series The Last Legion. Action, action and more action in this book. The continuing use of the same characters gives the series great continuity. I liked this book even better than the first two. Some bad guys get their just desserts and some good guys get wasted. Very exciting, hard to put down, obviously I recommend it.Body of work of Chris BunchReview of Storm Force:

Yanks Sounding Like A Beaten Bunch
From Bob Klapisch:More and more, the Yankees’ season is taking on the colorless hue of an 85-win finish, not good enough for October, not bad enough to be catastrophic. The players are either too young or too old, hardly anyone in their prime. Senior management won’t dare use the taboo “R” word, not as it tries to keep 4 million fans pouring through the turnstiles, but the veterans will privately tell you otherwise: for all the hype of a monster year, the Bombers are already on a long, flat road to nowhere.“You can just see, everyone here is trying to figure out what the [heck] is going on,” is what one of the clubhouse elders was saying. The words weren’t meant as criticism, just an observation about a franchise that’s suddenly lost its compass.Another veteran said, “Wit

'Disco, the Brady Bunch, the bumbling portrait of Gerald Ford on Saturday Night Live, the exploding Ford Pinto, Jimmy Carter's "killer rabbit" '
From: Why It's Time to Rethink the 70s by Bruce Schulman and Julian Zelizer Another reason for the scholarly bias against the 1970s concerns the peculiar focus of political historians. Scholars still tend to focus on presidents, their top advisers, and the exercise of executive power. As a result, the 1960s--a period that features the Camelot of John F. Kennedy and the tragedy of Lyndon Johnson--or the "Reagan Revolution" of the 1980s attracted more interest than a decade filled with corrupt or lackluster presidencies. Bob Dole, the long-time Senate Republican Leader and 1996 presidential nominee neatly, summarized this view when he described Presidents Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford, and Richard Nixon respectively as "See No Evil, Hear No Evil, and just Evil." “Firemask” is number two in the four book series The Last Legion. I found “Firemask” more enjoyable than the first book. I thought the detailing was better done and the story line was more inspiring. The characters are fleshed out better which was one of my complaints about the first book, “The Last Legion”. OGC logo brief sounds like a bunch of wank—so the result is appropriate
After saying there was less to blog because I had the principles down pat, here’s one that deserves an airing.   The Office of Government Commerce, part of HM Treasury in the UK, unveiled its new logo, which cost British taxpayers £14,000.And it didn’t take long after the unveiling for employees to see the problem:   I am sure it is possible for all of us to be caught out from time to time, because we didn’t study all the angles (ahem) to a problem.   But one principle I do abide by in logo development is internal review—not just to see if the client can identify problems, but to cover our own rear ends.   The Daily Telegraph reports that staff have removed items with the logo and expects a rush on to Ebay.   It states, ‘Th

No doubt inspired by the Roman withdrawal from England, the book details the plight of a small force left to their own devices on a frontier of a failing interstellar empire. Mr. Sykes : I believe you may be underestimating the technology here,as did many when Google went public.I was one of those sceptics early on,only to watch GOOG go to 700 from 100, and never did jump on the bandwagon. This search enhancer works incredibly well, and I have little doubt GOOG and the other search engine companies are taking notice, from both a marketing AND a technologically strategic perspective. So is the stock a buy or a sell? I would not want to be short when a 25 dollar bid comes in,and a possible bidding war starts amongst the big boys.Much-O speculation here. On the other hand, if you are right on this one and a huge number of shares actually do become available at some time, being long at a much higher price could be detrimental to your portfolio as well. This was a part of the city controlled by the French from the 1850’s until 1940’s, when the French and other foreigners cleared out of Shanghai. We walked through a wide alleyway surrounded by older apartment buildings into a walled garden, gently lit by lanterns. We entered the house through a large room divided into dining and living room spaces. Two enormous statues kept guard near the doorways. Pikelet - A Bunch
For some reason this tune reminds me of ‘Shadow Falls’ from Hello, Blue Roses. Not exactly sure why but there's something indescribably addictive about the sparseness. There is no semblance of chorus (or generic song elements for that matters), just lightly pounding (often indiscriminate) drums and the fanciest of dual layered ethereal vocals. Pikelet (aside from being a tasty pancake) consists of Evelyn Morris who comes from Melbourne. Her self-titled debut came out last year and was the product of her vision alone. Besides the glacial vocals she puts the generally sidelined instrument the accordion to much use. And despite what you might think the result is both illuminating and magical. Rampant experimentation on this scale normally sets sail from Icelandic shores. KDPikelet - A Bu

      BUNCH SAMPLING
Bunch sampling is important to obtain useful information for the computation of fruit loss, assessment of the effects of the cultural practices and growth patterns of the fruit.Every 10th bunch should serve as samples for both weights and calibration of the middle portion of the center finger of the outer whorl of the second hand by the use of the caliper. The caliper normally used is gauged at 1/32 of an inch meaning that one (1) inch is equal to 32 units. Thus, a calibration of 48, fruit is actually one with diameter of 1.5 inches. After getting the calibration, weight the bunch and mark the stalk with the corresponding bunch weights. After dehanding, the weight of the stalk should be taken and deducted from the bunch weight to arrive at the net bunch weight. Finally, noting the number of hands has also an important side as this tells you the growth patterns of bananas.Materials and equipment needed:1. Calibrated dial caliper 2. Tape measurement 3. Weighing scale4. Bunch sampling form

Folk, With an Unusual Bunch of Instruments
In the tradition of the American folk singer that he has upheld for the last 40 years, Arlo Guthrie usually performs on his own or with a few sidemen. But for his annual holiday concert at Carnegie Hall on Saturday evening Mr. Guthrie went symphonic, turning up with the University of Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, led by John Nardolillo. Mr. Nardolillo and his ensemble also accompany Mr. Guthrie on his latest album, “In Times Like These” (Rising Son Records), recorded this year. The album, which Mr. Guthrie and the orchestra performed almost in its entirety, mostly revisits favorites from Mr. Guthrie’s past work, including his version of Steve Goodman’s “City of New Orleans” and his own “Darkest Hour,” “Last Train” and “Last to Leave.” Curiously, the album’s title song, composed as a response to the Hurricane Katrina disaster (both natural and man-made), is performed by Mr. Guthrie to just his own guitar, on disc and in concert...This from the New York Times, pho

I Just Saved A Bunch Of Money On My Insurance
“I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to GEICO.” I am sure you heard that famous line before. In this post, I will share my story about how I saved $1,145 per year, or 30% off my original insurance bills — and it wasn’t with GEICO. Photo by Pinyo It all started about 3 weeks ago when I received my renewal notice from Allstate. Allstate wanted $1,312 per year to insure my 2100 sq. ft. home with a dwelling protection of $362,000, plus $342 for other valuables. It was quite a shock simply because I didn’t want to spend that much money right now. Surely, I can get someone else to insure my home for less. I started by doing some searches on Google and found NetQuote. I entered all my information, and it told me that agents from Liberty Mutual and Start Farm would be contacting me. I was disappointed, because I thought I was going to get a real-time quote online. Anyway, both agents did call me. They were both very nice, an

It’s almost too easy to point out that bounty hunter Duane “Dog” Chapman is a bigot. After his rant to his son in a telephone conversation was leaked to the media this week, there’s no doubt about his attitude toward African Americans. If you’ve not heard it, you can listen here or here. The irony is palpable: Chapman argued that his son must break up with his black girlfriend because the n-word is used around their house, and he was afraid that the woman in question would tape him using the word and sell it to a tabloid, thus ruining his career. If someone had proposed an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm on this premise, even Larry David would have found it ridiculous. So Chapman joins Michael Richards, John Gibson, Dom Imus and Joe Biden on the list of famous peopl

Thankfully my not so nuclear and thus UN-approved family is far more dysfunctional and camera shy. Anyway, this week all that was turned on its head as I discovered families actually look like this:And what a happy bunch of shapes they are, I’d love to see the reunions. But more importantly we learnt the importance of inherited diseases. Take for example the case of inborn mitochondrial diseases. These are maternally inherited, due to the mitochondrial DNA being in the egg at time of fertilisation, daddy’s sperm just doesn’t seem to cut it (and I can’t wait for the new Google hits from that sentence). A bunch of new imagery for Google Earth/Maps
(note: This data is only live in Google Earth, but will likely appear in Google Maps within a few days) As has been the case lately, it comes in the form of a quiz. If you know an answer, post it in the comments below and we’ll see if we can figure them all out. 1- U.S. Route 91 turns into a much more famous stretch of road when it crosses into this town. 2- Every year, this city plays host to the U.K.’s largest outdoor (temporary) ice rink. — Leeds, UK 3- Paradise: In this town you can surf or visit the world’s most delicious book store, located in an old Twinkie factory (with plenty of aging filling still in the pipes). — Cleveland, OH, USA 4- The original name of this city was Terminus. — Atlanta, GA, USA 5- The world’s northernmost opera house is located in this town. — Tromsø, Norway 6- This major U.S. city is actually north of Canada. — Detroit, MI, USA 7- A popular children’s game show that promoted geographic kn

Patriots vs. Cowboys: The ‘Brady Bunch’ meets Tony Romo
On Sunday there is no doubt the Dallas Cowboys, current undefeated masters at NFC East, will be facing one of the toughest contenders: New England Patriots. Both are carrying a 5-0 record so far (something that’s happening to Dallas for the first time since 1983) and are really confident about their offensive power. Sure, the Patriots are not scared since they got a little star like Tom Brady. But Dallas is fully confident with their more-recent-star key QB Tony Romo. So, which of those could actually win this duel?  Well, let’s see. Brady is well-known as an effective QB since his draft pick on 2000. This California guy shows a total of 1383 Pass Yds, 16 TDs and a rating of 128.7. He also has 2 MVP awards, has led their team to Super Bowl Championships a couple of times, named Sportsman of the Year by Sports Illustrated on 2005 and all kinds of flattering stuff like that (not mentioning he’s dating top model Giselle Bündchen, I think that’s flattering enough). Definitely not

B.O.O.B.S.: A Bunch of Outrageous Breast-Cancer Survivors Tell Their Stories of Courage, Hope and Healing
England, Spain, Portugal, Russia, Denmark, Sweden--doesn't sound like the itinerary of a cancer "victim," does it? But Lorna Goldstein, one of the 10 breast cancer survivors whose stories appear here, has been to all those places recently, traveling with her globe-trotting husband just as she did in years past. And, diagnosed with metastatic, recurring breast cancer, followed by unrelated uterine cancer, she has had bouts with cancer three times, twice within six months. "Have cancer, will travel" summarizes her upbeat, can-do attitude. Despite the rigors of testing, biopsies, diagnoses, treatments, pain, medication, surgeries, anxieties, hospital stays, nausea, and more, she enjoys health, energy, and a pain-free life that includes painting and piano playing. Neither Goldstein nor any of the other contributors, whose ages span 25 years and whose stages of cancer range from 0 to 4, minimizes the harsh realities, and all bring admirable strength of spirit to bear on their situation, wh

I reached my WITS end and saved a bunch of time to boot
I find myself using regular commands to gain system information, some of these include:Start->Control Panel->SystemIPCONFIGROUTE PRINTTASK MANAGERPRINT MANAGERDEVICESSERVICES.MSCThey are all really useful but wouldn't it be great to have all that info in just one place?Searching through Google trying to find a program that gives me this information I found a product called Windows Inspection Tool Set (WITS) located here. The WITS website describes the tools as "WiTS provides cross-linked list and detail views of various components and objects in a Windows system along with tools for managing them. Cross linking of object properties and flexible filtering capabilities facilitate diagnostic and troubleshooting tasks for system administrators, developers and power users. WiTS supports viewing and monitoring of several different types of objects, such as processes, network connections, users and more."Best of all the program is open source developed in TCL/TK.

Not the Bradys XXX is definitely expected to be the biggest selling feature title the Larry Flynt Empire has seen in over 5 years and early pre-orders have been coming in even though the company has not yet offered the hardcore parody to buyers. “Not the Brady’s XXX is a movie that the whole company has been excited about for months. Apple Cider Vinegar - Magic Diet Elixir or Just A Bunch of Sour Apples?
Back in my college days a friend of mine was freaking out because he had been spending much time with his face in the bong and found out he'd have to take a drug test for pretty lucrative job opportunity. I'll be honest with you, as this was pre-Internet, I have no earthly idea where I had heard this, but I told him:"Dude, drink vinegar, I heard vinegar will make you pass a drug test."He took a quick sip out a bottle of wine vinegar and spit it out. "C'mon you've got to drink it, you want that job don't you.""Yes""I know, why don't you just do it like a shot. You'll barely taste it." So he grabbed a shot glass out of the cabinet, poured himself a shot of the vinegar, toasted me, did the shot and proceeded to vomit tuna fish salad sandwich all over the kitchen and I proceeded to laugh my ass off. I think he did pass that test, but it certainly wasn't from the vinegar.A few years later I caught a friend of mine at a party tippling from not a bottle of booze, but a bottle vinegar

There is a Bunch of Weirdness Going On
I've done my part in the past ten days or so to make rich oil executives richer. My real estate business has taken me on numerous road trips that have included Bethany, several trips to LeRoy, Mt. Morris, a couple times around Conesus Lake and one trip to Honeoye Lake. I'm getting to know Avon very well, as well as Scottsville and Caledonia. I've been all over the city of Rochester and surrounding suburbs. It's been such a whirlwind there were a couple of times I could not remember where I was the day before. I shutter to think what my gasoline bill will be this month.Anyway, there has also been a lot of wheeling and dealing going on and it has included a bunch of strange stuff. For example, I have buyers that put an offer in on a nice property that's been on the market all summer. They offered a purchase price that was 97% of asking, which was pretty fair since the property had been on the market about 80 days. They came back with a counter that was almost full price which was

Madagascar Day Gecko Saved Me A Bunch Of Money On My Car Insurance
Yeah… Madagascar Day Gecko is the animal Geico uses in it’s commercials. And it saved me $156/six months ($312/year) on the 2005 Corolla’s insurance. [$59.89 per month doesn’t add up to $303.90 per six months. That’s because of the peculiar payment structure that I chose - not because geckos can’t do math] Earlier, I sort of went into complacency with my Allstate insurance and never cared to look into options, because when I first got it (just the liability part for the now-dead Nissan), Allstate was the cheapest. Getting this newer car swung me into action and I finally took a shot at Geico (and two other companies that gave me worse quotes than Allstate). I approached it through Geico.com and I have to say that it was a much smoother experience than Allstate - everything happened online and I had a quote within 5 minutes of starting the application - no additional paperwork, no sending signed stuffed through snail-mail, etc. The $303.90-for-six-

The RIAA is a bunch of EVIL Bastards!
What in the hell! “RIAA to feds: Make XM-Sirius pay more, restrict listeners’ recording.”  First off let me say I am a XM Radio subscriber and love it, I have owned one for like 5 years now.  I bought the new Pioneer Inno when it came out which allows you to record up to 50 hrs of XM programing to your Inno.  It will not let you transfer the songs off of the Inno for other devices so it is totally restricted to only listening to the recorded content form the Inno device.  “Under copyright law, separate licenses exist for the “performance” of a song and for the recording or “distribution” of it. Satellite and Internet radio broadcasters (unlike traditional radio) are already required to pay performance-based royalties.” This is just crazy.  I mean they are already charging them more than regular radio and now want to charge more and restrict your recording.  The RIAA is a money hungry company that is destroying music in general

Democrat Party: A Bunch of Trust Fund Babies
Recently I read an article out of Washington about Millionaire Congressmen. From the article I learned that Nancy Pelosi holds stocks and property worth well into the millions. Harry Reid reported property around his hometown, as well as investments valued at several million dollars. Ted Kennedy reported four Kennedy family trust funds worth $20 million to $100 million. Mrs. Bill Clinton’s husband, Bill Clinton, made more than $10 million for giving speeches (they presumably hold joint bank accounts). Then in an effort to keep the story balanced, we hear that Mitch McConnel, the only Republican listed, had property worth between 1 and $5 million, along with retirement accounts worth close to $1 million. Before I address two quick points, I must clarify that I am not against making obscene profits; we live in a free country and everyone has a right to their own pursuit of happiness. With that being said, it is pretty obnoxious that the people who want to tax the crap out of the economy

How to raise your FICO score 10 points and save a bunch of trees - MythBusting
Lately there has been some great debate about the use of authorized credit lines by about individuals with low FICO scores to boost them. No, I am not going to reheat this great debate since Jay and Shailesh got it covered, however the same topic was part of an offline discussion I had at lunch today. A discussion which lead to another subject – boosting your credit score by 10 points by opting out receiving pre-screened credit offerings Perhaps I have been oblivious to knowing about a website called www.optoutprescreen.com and in a nutshell this is what they do: Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), the Consumer Credit Reporting Companies are permitted to include your name on lists used by creditors or insurers to make firm offers of credit or insurance that are not initiated by you (”Firm Offers”). The FCRA also provides you the right to “Opt-Out”, which prevents Consumer Credit Reporting Companies from providing your credit file information for Firm

The Debates: A Bunch of Losers and Very Few Winners
So far, the Presidential debates have been a HUGE waste of time. Watching a group of Old White Men trying to go further to the Right than one another is flat out ridiculous and I’d rather watch a dog go to the bathroom in public. I mean, Rep. Tancredo stating, live on TV, that the day Roe v Wade is made null and void would be the “greatest day in American History” made me want to kick my cat. Sure, the signing of the Declaration of Independence was swell and all, but Abortion trumps that in his mind. What an idiot. On the other side, watching the multi-cultural elite of the Democratic Party compare resumes and reflect where they were the day the recount started while offering no real solutions to the current quagmire makes me long for the days when the East Germans won all those gold medals. Tell me there’s another way? Oh wait…what about this! I recently read that Current NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg (R, formerly D) is willing to spend $1 BILLION dollars of his OWN money on an
