CNBC announced this morning another builder with a poor prediction for the markets going into 2008. Banks are writing off big potential losses on foreclosures and sub-prime problems. I know this all sounds pretty negative. But, frankly I think it's the beginning of a huge upswing! Think I sound crazy? The Fed finally cut rates, without housing and mortage problems, they would have left them alone. Mortgage rates already reflected these cuts in August, but now businesses can look to expand at cheaper rates of capital.Big builders and banks are taking enormous write-offs. But remember that they all know that their stocks are low, that this is the year to write off big. I expect to see some big bounce backs in 2008 for these stocks. I for one will be buying builder and bank stocks this winter.

2 years ago I was shopping for a house. We looked into a brand new subdivision in a the suburbs that was being built by KB. We found one we liked, worked it all out, put down a deposit, and "designed" it at the KB Store. It was not fun. The other day I explained in this blog the benefits of having a real estate agent represent a homebuyer when buying a new home.Builders do work with buyer’s agents. And to that point, when builders feel like they need to sell, they start offering buyer’s agents more incentives to bring in homebuyers.Sometimes it’s more commission. Other times, it’s a reward. A couple of days ago I received an email from one of Portland’s big local builders. It said that any Realtor whose homebuyer closes on a home prior to 2008 would receive a $500 gift card from Nordstrom or Sportsman’s Warehouse.
