From its charming and angst-ridden first season to the darker, apocalyptic final one, Buffy the Vampire Slayer succeeds on many levels, and in a fresher and more authentic way than the shows that came before or after it. How lucky, then, that with the release of its boxed set of seasons 1-7, you can have the estimable pleasure of watching a near-decade of Buffy in any order you choose. (And we hav

The image of a giant Dawn rampaging Godzilla-style through the streets of Tokyo was probably too much for the team at Buffy: Season Eight to resist. Who could blame them? Look at the cover of Issue #14! Come on! It's hilarious! Yet, while Wolves at the Gate, a four-issue story arc from Drew Goddard and Georges Jeanty, has its moments, it's not a very satisfying story. Take. Have.’ You must be male. Looking for some NSA good time fun while in Sunnydale.” At least, that’s the notion we get when we first meet the next slayer.

Okay all you teenage comet zombies, Buffy’s back and ready to….be shunned. And made to feel guilty. And be treated like a flight risk, again. So, the last time we encountered the Scoobies, Buffy had to murder Angel almost immediately after his alter ego, Angelus, began to suck the world into hell by pulling out the sword of Acathla. Buffy freaked as any girl would at having to kill her one and only true love, and skedaddled all the way to L.A. to live as Anne, a timid waitress who ignores her sacred duty of slayerdom. Poor Buffy. I mean, Anne.

By Sabrina Boyer
Ever wondered what happened between seasons five and six of Buffy the Vampire Slayer when Buffy was dead and Willow became all veiny and scary? So did Tabitha Smith and Kim Butler, creators of Buffy Between the Lines, an audio podcast by and for fans of the Buffyverse. A full on plethora of episodes, the podcast explores the untold stories of the characters between some of the most intense and highly charged seasons, beginning season one with the exploration of the goings on between seasons five and six, the summer sans Buffy.

But only for the William S. Paley TV Festival. The attendees watched the season 5 musical episode, "Once More, With Feeling." Members of the cast included: Sarah Michelle Gellar, Seth Green, Michelle Trachtenberg (who will join the cast of Gossip Girl later this year), Emma Caulfield, James Marsters, Nicholas Brenden, Amber Benson, Charisma Carpenter, and creator Joss Whedon. This was my most favorite beyond favorite show for 7 straight years. I am not even kidding you I NEVER missed an episode. When asked about doing a reunion show, of sorts, creator Joss Whedon said, "So many stars would have to align." So we shouldn't get our hopes up kiddies. Although a reunion would just make my fucking year.

Joss Whedon loves lesbians! We all love lesbians, lesbians love lesbians, so why shouldn’t Buffy Summers find out what all the fuss is about? In the Buffy Season 8 comic I was afraid Buffy was going to bang Xander, which would have been gross because it would have been like her banging her brother, but I should have known better. The Vampire slayer finally decided to change her name from Sarah Michelle Gellar to Sarah Michelle Prinze. Sarah seems to be so romantic to surprised her husband, Freddie Prinze Jr. by changing her last name with Freddie’s last name as a gift with their 5 years wedding anniversary. A romantic dinner on their special wedding anniversary, Sarah handed to Freddie her new driver’s license showing her new last name. Wow, that was so sweet after being married for five years, at last she did it totally for Freddie. Well, 100 points for Sarah for being that romantic and that is the best gift Freddie’s ever had for sure.
Trivia:
Sarah met Freddie on their teen horror film “I Know What You Did Last Summer” on 1997 but started dating on 2000. The couple got engage in April 2001 and made their vow in Mexico on September 2002 in a ceremony officiated by Adam Shankma.

I recently watched the "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" movie, and noticed something I'd never seen before. It was written by Joss Whedon, the creator of the TV series! That blew my mind, because before I had just assumed that the series was a more serious (and totally separate) take on the romantic comedy. Now I know they are connected through Whedon. Cool.I actually like the movie better than the show. I like the actors better, the style, the lighter tone, and the music. I also thought the movie was pretty funny at some parts. Plus there are a lot of actors that I recognize from other projects. I especially think it's neat that Ben Affleck made a brief appearance as a basketball player.Ok, let me just rattle off the names of the higher profile actors in the film: Kristy Swanson, Donald Sutherland, Paul Reubens, Rutger Hauer, Luke Perry, Hilary Swank, Stephen Root, and Ben Affleck. All these guys are great. Just fantastic. Stephen Root especially. When I first watch this film
So, I’ve been watching Reaper and enjoying it. The pilot was easily the best one, the rest have stabilized at “pretty entertaining.” While watching it, it occurred to me that it had some obvious similaries to early Buffy - from cast structure to generalized stories - enough that it made me want to watch my Buffy Season 1 dvd’s again. So I did.
Eye opening. Buffy was immediately great. Every episode was good in a way that is not true on any of the shows this season - all of which were sort of “Yeah, it’s ok, show’s some promise so I’ll keep trying it out.” And the comparison with Reaper is sort of a non-comparison. Superficially they’re similar. Main slaying character, two sidekicks, one wacky, one smart. One older teacherly figure. One love interest, outside the circle. You know, some bad guy comes every week to kill, research must go into why he’s killing and how to kill him.
Sure. Whatever. Buffy, though, walked a razo

Not only is this episode about eggs as in bad kids but also as in literally, bad eggs. As the episode opens Buffy attempts to convince her mother that she should be able to wear a streetwalker-looking outfit because it makes her look thin. As she’s supposed to go pick up her mother’s outfit from Everyday Woman, she comes across a country bumpkin named Lyle who has a really bad accent with an equally bad cowboy hat. But in the spirit of vamp slayage, she forgets her mother’s outfit. What a bad egg Buffy is! Of course, when she’s not saving the world. (more…)

From the moment I saw the first episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, I was hooked. Whedon created a world that symbolically told the story of the universal passage into maturity. He imagined an alternate reality filled with demons, half demons and vampires. Then there was the “chosen one”, passionately played by Sarah Michelle Geller, born to be the one who as an awakened “valley girl “, with the power of a Shiva (destroyer). A growing up saga with an exaggerated view of various arch-type struggles we all experience. With her for the ride is ever faithful friend Willow (Rosenberg), played by Allison Hannigan. Xander, played by Nicholas Brendon, and her watcher, teacher and father figure, Reupert Childs, played by Anthony Stewart Head.
The grappling with burden, uncertainty and its impact on adolescence is something many people identified with. The First season (13 episodes) established her at the time she learns that she is the chosen one at 16. What it means, t

So it’s been awhile since I’ve actually sat down to watch this particular episode; it’s not that it’s bad, just not one that I’d choose for sh!ts and giggles. And yet, it contains one of the boocoodle reasons why this show is stellar: the Frankenstein motif which we come to see later in season four. The episode begins with Angel finding Buffy in the cemetery waiting for the newly risen to rise while she debates the finer points of dancing vs. making it with Angel over her previous dance with Xander. Behold their marvelous argument over age appropriate dating as Angel stomps away and Buffy follows, only to fall into an open coffin. It wasn’t fresh vamp but, as she will conclude, a grave robber. Finally, season two. This is when the show really hits its stride, starting off strongly with the opening scene of Will and Xan walking in the dark past one of the infamous number of cemeteries in Sunnydale, playing a game of movie lines trivia. We learn that over the summer, Buffy left S-town to live with her dad, Will only getting a few postcards and “then like, nothing.” As Xan quotes a line from ‘Witness’ he wipes ice cream off of Will’s nose, and they almost share a romantic kiss; but, nothing is that easy on the Hellmouth and they’re interrupted by the first vampire they’ve seen since Buffy’s killed the Master. But of course, they are saved…by Buffy as she sweetly turns around, looks at the camera and asks “miss me?” Of course she’s talking to the audience, and yes Buffy, we always miss you. Now more than ever. (more…)

One of my favorites of the first season (I feel like I’m always saying this….but who wouldn’t? He’s like, 240 years older than she is, and he’s chock full of salty goodness. Yep, here’s the episode that begins to build the backstory of Angel and Darla. As the episode opens, the master and the Anointed One agree to allow Darla, his pet, go after Buffy as the scene cuts to the Bronze’s fumigation party (where they close the Bronze and kill the roaches; um, is the Bronze in Florida?) and Xander delivers a great line to Cordelia: “No, of course that dress doesn’t make you look like a hooker.” A little foreshadowing maybe? One of the best episodes of the first season, “The Pack” rings in as one of the greatest metaphors of the television series: a group of bullies who think they are the epitome of social Darwinism pick on the shy and weak. Who out there - who survived high school - did not have a group of bullies like the ones in this episode? “Hyenas are quick to prey on the weak,” says the zookeeper in the beginning of the episode as Buffy, Will and Xander go after ‘the pack’ in the closed hyena habitat where the bullies and Xander are infected with their spirits. Here ensues the deeper meaning of the episode: hyenas hunt in packs and are the embodiment of social Darwinism; that the strong survive and the weak perish. This episode is so clearly a rebuttal to this long held evolutionary ideal and so perfectly done in the stage of high school, where social Darwinism is at its most potent. (more…)

Much to the delight (and relief) of fans of the Joss Whedon television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the show’s seventh season was not its last. After the show’s cancellation, Whedon decided to continue the Buffyverse in comic form, and March 2007 saw the premiere of Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Eight. Whedon has completed writing the first story arc, titled “The Long Way Home” and will release issue #5 after a July hiatus. A Brian K. Vaughan-penned story arc will begin with issue #6 in September, and the rest of the series will alternately be written by Vaughan, Whedon, and other writers from the Buffy television series, and the entire effort will be “executive-produced” by Whedon himself.
For those of you who missed it, or who are wondering whether “The Long Way Home” is worth the trouble and investment, here’s a recap and review: (more…)

Buffy for Beginners is back with a new writer: Sabrina Boyer. Sabrina is a Ph.D. student in Education and Cultural Studies, a huge fan of pop culture - especially any that deals with bad ass women with weapons - an angry feminist, a disgruntled English teacher, and all around Buffy fanatic. She has organized a Buffy lecture series, co-chaired a Buffy conference at UNCG, and taught a course on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Last time it was a psycho cheerleader witch, this week we’re talking full on exorcist twist. The episode opens in Xander’s dreams, where instead of the slayer saving Xander, Xander saves her, and then slays her with his wicked guitar playing only to wake up drooling on the table in science class, where Buffy, Xan and Will are learning about the praying mantis (not a religious affiliation). The science teacher speaks to Buffy as a person (imagine that) and teaches her that knowledge really is power, and she’s worth it. (more…)

This first volume begins at the beginning - The Origin, a faithful adaptation of creator Joss Whedon's original
In the last episode we were left with a cliff hanger. Buffy was trapped in a crypt about to be bitten by the large and scary Luke, (The Master’s pet vampire). Willow, Xander, and Jesse had escaped into the cemetery, but had several blood thirsty vamps hot on their tail. It’s all very exciting.
So, Luke is within drooling distance of Buffy’s beautiful neck when the cross that Angel gave her falls out of her shirt and burns him. She’s able to throw Luke off and run out into the cemetery. The vamps had of course, caught up with Willow, Xander, and Jesse at this point. Buffy dusts the baddies holding Willow and Xander, but can’t find Jesse anywhere. Darla (hot vamp chick) took him.
The next day at school, Buffy, Xander and Willow powwow with Giles in the school library about the happenings of the night before. A shocked Willow and Xander question Giles on the whole Buffy, Slayer, vampire thing. At the same time, Darla and Luke present a very freaked out Jesse to the Master (

I saw Buffy the Vampire Slayer when it was a campy movie with Rutger Hauer playing a vampire. I didn’t catch on to Joss Whedon until Firefly, so I never watched his Buffy series (I know, I’m a bad Whedonite, please stop throwing things at me). Luckily, Katie Renouard is coming to my rescue with her new Pink Raygun series, Buffy for Beginners. Kate will take us through every Buffy-sode from the very beginning, with recap and commentary, starting now.
Our tale begins with Buffy’s first day of school. After the movie, our good friend Buffy got kicked out of her old high school for burning the gym down. Now yes, it WAS filled with blood thirsty vampires , but that doesn’t seem to matter. So she and her mother Joyce pack up and move to Sunnydale, California in her mid-sophomore year.
Role the credits and *bam* the episode begins. Some random guy brings his seemingly helpless date to, get this, SCHOOL! Its night time, they break in, the girl goes all fangs and nails, and
