In the northeastern part of Thailand, at the confluence of three small tributary streams in Udon Thani province, lies the Bronze Age village and cemetery site of Ban Chiang. As may things in life, the revelation of Ban Chiang started as a accident. In 1966 Steven Young was wandering around a small village in Northeastern Thailand when he tripped on a tree root and fell. On the ground he saw rings, which turned out to be pottery shards. Further investigation revealed more fragments which had been revealed by gradual erosion. Legend has it that Ban Chiang was discovered by a clumsy American college student, who fell in the road of the present town of Ban Chiang, and found ceramics eroding out of the road bed. The first excavations at the site were conducted in 1967 by archaeologist Vidya Intakosai, and this and subsequent excavations by the Fine Arts Department in Bangkok and the University of Pennsylvania under the direction of Dr. Chester F. Gorman and Pisit Charoenwongsa have r

The inconspicuous bronze people lurking around various parts of Albuquerque…
I was downtown a week ago and saw a whole cluster of people. I will be adding them over the next several months. This is George Maloof. He looks like he is watching over the downtown area. Hopefully, he doesn’t mind Sk8er Boi skateboarding on the sidewalk across the street from him! George is located on the corner of Tijeras and 3rd.

I was downtown yesterday and saw a whole cluster of people. You will have to wait to see the others in the group. For now, here is a boy on his skateboard; I think he is the only one who can get away with skateboarding on the sidewalks in Albuquerque! He is located on the corner of Tijeras and 3rd. I have gotten a little behind in a bible study I am doing of Beth Moore's study "A Woman's Heart God's Dwelling Place. I recently went make-up hunting and found out that Flirt has some great blushes. I got a set on sale there about 2 years ago and dismissed it because, well, the colours simply did not suit me. My narrow mindedness came back to haunt my make-up obsessed mind and I decided to go and give the line another try. I have to say that I'm very impressed with the line. The make-up doesn't have any fragrance, their make-up is of excellent quality, and it lasts on me at least as long a MAC does.One thing I like about Flit! is that it goes on sale and I can use any discount coupon valid in Kohl's on the make-up. Also, Flirt! has some great, inexpensive dupes of NARS and MAC. Glamourazzi is a dead-ringer for MAC Trax. I also find that Flirt!'s Heartthrob is the best dupe I have found of NARS's infamous "O." Kelly Sotherton has added another medal to her collection after winning bronze in the heptathlon during the World Athletics Championship in Osaka, Japan this weekend. Having spent the majority of the competition in a medal-winning position, Kelly slipped to fourth after a disappointing javelin event. However, she pulled it back in the 800m to win Britain's first medal in this year's competition. Around Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales and the Isle of Man there are thousands of ancient sites called Burnt Mounds or Fulacht Fiadh. The horseshoe or circular shaped sites have a number of similarities. The sites feature mounded soil that creates ditch like areas. There is a fire pit marked by large amounts of charcoal residue. Broken stones appear to have been heated and used to warm water. Carbon dating indicates some of the sites date to 1500 B.C. and were used for hundreds of years.Archaeologists and historians have long debated the use of these site. 06 August 2008 (Vietnam Net Bridge) - This piece of alarming news comes from the Dak Lak province, where Dong Son drums have been recently discovered, and how as many of 50 of them have been illegally excavated and smuggled out.

In the past four months, 50 bronze drums have been unearthed and transported illegally out Krong Nang district in Dak Lak province, said doctor Tran Quy Thinh from the Vietnam Archeological Institute.
Of these, the only one that is yet to be sold is at present being kept by Nguyen Thi Dieu from Xuan Vinh commune. Ms. Dieu has asked Dak Lak Museum for VND100million (US$6,000) for the ancient drum.
The drum, which was discovered in Ms. Dieu’s garden, is a Dong Son Drum Type 1, which dates back 2,200 years. The surface’s diameter is 65 cm, and the diameter of the bottom is 67 cm.

10 July 2007 (Vietnam Net Bridge) - A 14-year-old unearths a bronze bell in Quang Nam province in Vietnam. Unfortunately, no other information about the bell was provided, although the Han dynasty lettering on the bell implies a date between 200 BC and 200 AD.

A 14-year-old kid named Duong Quoc Hop from Thang Binh district in the central province of Quang Nam has recently found an ancient bronze bell while looking for metal waste right inside his home’s garden.
The bell was buried at 1.5 m underground in quite original conditions. Its diameter is 0.45 m; height 0.94 m, and weight 100kg. The body of the bell has many sharply-engraved Han letters.
Yesterday afternoon, July 9, a team from Quang Nam Museum and the Department of Culture and Information visited the kid’s house and tried to persuade his family to hand over the bell to them for investigation.
