Yes Satellite Broadcasting Approved to Market TriplePlay Service In Israel.
Beseq's subsidiary Yes Satellite Broadcasting has passed an important milestone in Israel as the Grunau Commission passed the decision. Yes Satellite Broadcasting will be permitted to market a triple-play telephony package:"Bezeq telephone and Internet", "service and infrastructure", from Bezeq and Bezeq International respectively. This is the main decision made by the Grunau Commission concerning Bezeq, but it will not be implemented immediately.Yes' mother company Bezeq, on the other hand, will not be allowed to market the same triple package, but Yes will now be able to compete with HOT Telecom, which is already marketing this triple package of services. This easing of restrictions on Bezeq offsets another of the commission's decisions - that Bezeq must allow other telephony operators

Conference Announcement and Call for PapersBritish Broadcasting and the World: Changing Perceptions in a Global ContextDepartment of HumanitiesUniversity of Central LancashirePreston, UK PR1 2HE23rd - 25th July 2008In 20th century British history, during which time the nation attempted to maintain an international presence and influence, British broadcasting had a significant role to play. This has continued into the 21st century. Furthermore we have seen a shift in Anglo-American politics following the 9/11 attacks and a shift in reputation as the conflict in Iraq remains controversial. The 21st century is also an age of digitalisation, and one that is even questioning the future of broadcasting - of television at least - in the context of new media developments and social change. This three-day conference seeks to explore the status of British broadcasting given the more recent shifts in the international arena. Dear WIPO: Don't Break Internet Broadcasting
via eff.org's EFFector Vol. 20, No. 23 June 13, 2007:In 2006, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) was inches away from finalizing a treaty that would have crippled Internet broadcasting.Called the WIPO Broadcasting Treaty, it gave traditional broadcasters andcablecasters new copyright-like rights over their signals. Under the Treaty, video hosting websites like YouTube could suddenly face new legal liability and innovative products like the SlingBox could face crippling lawsuits. In an astounding turnaround, WIPO Member States told the WIPO Secretariat to rewrite the Treaty and make it focus more narrowly on broadcast signal protection. Thanks to the efforts of technology companies, independent podcasters and activists, the delegates agreed that the treaty shouldn't be premised on creating new rights. Instead, any new treaty should be based simply on protecting against theft of broadcast signals, which transmit radio and television content over airwaves. This was a hu

It’s a place where politicians, candidates, lobbyists, interest groups, voters, and political geeks like me post videos for a politically-savvy audience, and to make sure their videos don’t get lost among Spanish soccer matches and lip-synching under-age girls. I believe that CHBN will become an important part of the political dialog in this country, so if you have a political video, sign up and upload it. Check out my videos on the site here. Blogging the WIPO Broadcasting Treaty: Signal-Based Protection or Rights by Any Other Name?
Source: EFF.org Date: Fri Jan 19 13:02:31 UTC 2007 Author: dereks@eff.org Subject: WIPO The 183 member states of the UN's World Intellectual Property Organization are gathered in Geneva this week to discuss the controversial draft WIPO Broadcasting Treaty[1]. EFF's main concern with the current treaty draft[2] - shared by the other 40 public interest groups, companies and industry groups that have submitted a joint statement[3] to WIPO this week - is that it is not limited to signal theft. Instead, it creates a set of broad and unwieldy intellectual property rights in the recording and use of fixed transmissions, which are likely to restrict the public's access to information in the public domain, preclude uses of works permitted under national copyright law, curtail consumers' use of lawfully-received programming in their home, and stifle technological innovation. Over the last year there has been widespread support for moving to an alternative signal-focused treaty. Last Octobe

Comcast Sports - Bias In Broadcasting
I've never seen a television station more bias than the Comcast Sports Network. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that a local network can be so devoted the area sports teams. But to what extent can it be considered going too far?For those of you that don't know, bias is defined by the North American English Encarta Dictionary as an unfair preference for or dislike of something. The unfair preference is the favoritism of Philadelphia sports teams; the dislike is everything else. What brings on this rant? Right now, I am watching the Philadelphia Flyers hockey game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Philly is winning the game, 4-2, with about nine minutes left in the game (assuming there is no overtime.) A player on Tampa landed on top of a player from Philly and no penalty was called. For the next forty-five seconds after the incident, the game announcers continued on about how it should have been a penalty; in reality, it really wasn't.Two players lost their footing.
