So, we will have FOMC policy statement announcement at 2.15pm today. Will Fed hold or raise the interest rates? Before answering this question, let's take a look at how the Broad Market closed yesterday. There is no doubt about it that the Broad Market are showing lots of weakness in the background. Currently, all the respective index closing price are at the bottom of the down channel. Some streng

In late March, I alerted readers to a triangle forming in Exxon Mobil (XOM). The stock broke out from its triangle and continued higher in textbook fashion. The upward trend was steady and pretty easy to trade. Importantly, XOM's breakout and follow-through rally helped the S&P 500 ($SPX) and Dow Jones Industrial Average ($INDU) move higher. You see, XOM is the largest stock in the U.S. by market cap. As of this morning, XOM's market cap is around $492 billion. This makes XOM the largest component in the S&P 500, which is a market cap weighted index. XOM represents a little over 4% of the S&P 500.Also, XOM is a high priced stock (don't confuse this with valuation). At $92, XOM is high in share price. XOM accounts for about 5.9% of the Dow Jones Industrial Ave

From ReutersGold fell more than 2 percent in a broad commodities sell-off on Friday, with a rise in the dollar and softer oil prices dampening the metal's allure as an alternative investment. Other key precious metals, base metals and major soft commodities traded lower, with investors pocketing profits before the end of the quarter. Gold fell to $926.50 before rising to $933.30/934.20 an ounce at 11:40 a.m. EDT, against $951.80/952.60 in New York late on Thursday. Last week, it hit a record high of $1,030.80 an ounce before tumbling to a one-month low of $904.70. "The market is really correcting itself, but it's a general move out of commodities. The Great Unwind has begun, Citigroup warnsby MarketWatch - snips:As markets and economies de-leverage across the globe, investors should avoid companies and countries that have grown to rely too much on borrowed money, they said. Remarkably, the Andean crisis over Colombia's cross-border raid into Ecuador ended as quickly as it erupted today, after the presidents of the two countries shook hands at a regional summit broadcast on live television through much of Latin America. At the summit, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who had backed Ecuador's Rafael Correa in condemning Colombia's actions, also embraced Colombia's Alvaro Uribe. In the meantime, the Colombian newspaper El Tiempo has published excerpts from the e-mails...(read more)

Coal Prices Open The Door To Biomass
Looking toward the possible rise of biomass as an energy source, BioPact Blog points out that coal prices could conceivably double in the next two years. A variety of pressures on the supply of coal, including limits on production in Indonesia and Australia, and spiraling demand in China and India, are consiring to drive prices up, perhaps much more rapidly than the market is ready to absorb. The market already received a shock, in fact, when rumors circulated that an Asian steel company paid well above market value for coal.

Its decided. I’m running the 10-Mile Broad Street Run on May 4th.
This is my first race ever (not counting ”Field Day” in middle school ha)
so I’m both very excited and unsure about it.
Several of my buddies and family members have decided to participate in
the upcoming event as well so I wanted to post
this little message for everyone and anyone interested in competing.
There is no cap on the # of people allowed to run so I
urge anyone whos got the ”chutzpah” (guts)…
to dare to do something great and run it.
Below are some of the more important information and links:

Noticing a link to a post of mine, I dropped by the eponymously named blog by "The Spewker's" (I met her at Blogworld.).
In the post, she discusses her plans to change the focus of her blog from "news and commentary on just about any topic that strikes my [her] fancy" to "articles focusing on political news in the world of entertainment," claiming that blogs with a narrow focus or that find and defend a small "niche" in the blogosphere encounter the most success. It makes sense. People who want the latest on equestrian matters will type "blog.local-riding-store.com" not visit a blog with one horse story in between 76 "Bush is Hitler" posts.
My own blog-reading habits usually correspond to this model. When I need the 411 on Cuba, I go to Babalu. When I want to read about some our brave fallen soldiers, I surf on over to Gazing at the Flag (make sure you spell the last word correctly). It's Libertas for movie reviews and smart conversation. Stuart Broad was shaping up to be an opening bat just like his dad Chris, until he suddenly shot up. Within 18 months he had transformed himself into a medium-fast bowler and was playing for England Under-19 and Leicestershire's first XI. A few months later and he's gone from England's A team to a call-up to the full one-day side. Talk about a meteoric rise. "I thought I may as well try bowling because I can't just stand around in the field all day," he shrugged - and promptly took 9 for 72 for England Under-19s in ODIs against Sri Lanka and 30 first-class wickets at 27.69 in ten matches in 2005. But his game could yet change, again: he has aspirations to be an allrounder, ideally at the top level, of course. He seems made of the right mental stuff. "My main ambition is to play for England but I can't do that without doing the little things I do tomorrow." Progress so far has been good. At the age of just 19, he was called into the England A set-up
As I don’t currently live in the US, and have only half an ear turned to the primaries, I was planning to abstain from this month’s focus on the election. However, having recently gone head-to-head on the issue over pints here in Britain, I decided I just couldn’t contain myself. Though I am, perhaps, not the most informed voter these days, here are the top ten reasons I shall be voting for Barack Obama:

After eight years of Laura Bush and her daughters, Condi, and truly frightful characters like Karen Hughes and Harriet Myers, the “women” of the Bush administration have left Americans utterly starved for role models who embody (all in one package) strength, success, intelligence, fun, warmth, and (dare I say it) femininity. So of course, the main appeal of Hillary is her potential to make the Viagra-popping greys in Washington shut up once and for all and sing “Hail to the Squaw.” Neverthless, as I can’t actually bring myself to like

The uproar over the Steve Downie hit had just started dying down when another two-bit punk playing for the Philadelphia Flyers, Jesse Boulerice, cross-checks Vancouver’s Ryan Kesler in the face ( see video here.) He then stood over Kesler as he lay prone on the ice and challenged him to a fight. And the Flyers were winning 7-2 at the time.
It’s close to the point with the Flyers where it can no longer be passed off as a few undisciplined players. It’s starting to reek of a culture of nastiness that’s being drummed into the soft malleable heads of less than bright lights like Downie and Boulerice. Both of these individuals had reputations as borderline sociopaths during their junior hockey days. It seems this is the type of player thug the Flyers want.
Considered by many to be someone willing to use questionable tactics during his playing days, Bobby Clarke was handed the keys to the Flyers’ organization for the better part of two decades. So it&rsquo
The redevelopment of the small six-story five-unit Financial District condo development at 65 Broad Street is now sold out. Unit 5, which was the model unit in the direct elevator access boutique development, received an Offer and is progressing through the purchase process. The lofts at 65 Broad Street went down a rather rocky road in closing out all of the available units, from being listed with multiple real estate brokerages, to even trying to take the units to auction. Some would say that none of the tactics really worked, however, originally pricing the units up in the $500K range did not get things started on the right foot.
Once all remaining units were knocked down to $399,000 each, traffic and showings picked up, and the last unit had multiple pursuers. Not surprising, given that the least expensive property on the market in the Financial District is $603,000 (a large one-bedroom at the Richmond Lofts development). The 65 Broad Street Units were a surprising relief in a n
Stuart Broad watched on as Yuvraj Singh sent all six deliveries high over the boundary
Paul Collingwood has backed young England fast bowler Stuart Broad to bounce back from the humiliating experience of being hit for six sixes in one over by Indian batsman Yuvraj Singh. The 21-year-old paceman became only the fourth man in history – and the first ever in international Twenty20 cricket – to give up a maximum 36 runs in a single over. But rather than find his confidence dented by the experience, team captain Collingwood believes it will help the Leicestershire star to mould his game for the future."He's a very proud man, he's got a lot of pride in his bowling and that will hurt him," Collingwood said."But it's up to us all – me as captain and all the players – to get behind him and support him."The way he's been during this season has been fantastic. He's been one of our best bowlers, the way he's learned and progressed, so I'm sure this k
Heard a rumour the other day about the lovely old school halfway up Broad Street, Coppenhall. The site is currently called Oakfield (so says the new sign to the right of this image) and the pupils will eventually move down to the newer school about 500 metres away, off Holland Street. They have various non-school activities running throughout the week and I'm told that a fella who teaches martial arts has acquired the property and will, eventually, convert it for use as an academy. Anyone else heard similar?
A swift broad sweep through these first early ground breaking years. These spiritual leaders were giants and jewels. Their example is to imitated wherever possible. Here are lessons for the next generation of leaders. You will not find better anywhere.

The last two Sundays, this Gorgeous home on East Broad Street across from Franklin Park has been open for viewing in light of tonight’s auction. It is a tremendous showplace of a home. And, while it could use some updating and sprucing up, its Eight Bedrooms and eight baths could be yours for $1.00.
Of course, that’s up to the seller who has the final say over what selling price will be acceptable. The crowd will start the bidding somewhere and it’ll end somewhere, probably more than 500,000 X $1. It’s been mostly on the market for two years now, beginning in September 2005 for a whopping $1,425,000. The last list price was somewhere just shy of half that and, according to the MLS, it’s been in contract twice but fallen out both times. A single family home over on Long Street is also being auctioned tonight if you miss out on this.
Everyone has heard that Carlyle’s Watch will be auctioning off 35 of their unsold un
Credit: satorialist.comThe photo of this women taken by the satorialist a couple of days ago reminded me of myself. I probably have the exact same figure and the same broad shoulders but I'm not sure if I like the dress on her. It looks very feminine and masculine at the same time. I know, that I wouldn't wear it because I would feel uncomfortable highlighting my shoulders in that way, but why? Sometimes I have to remind myself that I'm not the sweet little tiny girl I sometimes wished to be. Oh fashion can be so cruel! I guess that's why I like that photo so much. This woman looks powerful and sexy at once, without the androgynous fragility of a supermodel (which I love aswell)...

Key facts Full Name: Stuart Broad Born: June 24 1986, Nottingham County: Leicestershire Other Teams: England U19 Batting Style: Left-Hand BatBowling Style: Right-Arm Medium Fast It doesn't take a particularly perspicacious watcher of the game to choose Chris Broad's son Stuart as one to be keeping a close eye on over the next few months and years. Still only 20 years old, this Leicestershire right-arm medium-fast bowler has attracted interest at the highest levels. He has been playing first-class cricket since 2005 having shone brightly throughout his school-boy days, and although first touted as an opening batsman, has proved that the growth spurt that now sees him topping 6 foot, has been a gift to him as a bowler. He has an economy rate of 3.59 in first-class matches and although his One Day figures are far from that, he has not played enough for this to be meaningful. In August 2006,
By Fahad AhmedThis is the world of 21st century, the century of technologies. Every thing is fast now a days and as far as the Computers and games are concerned, they are at the top of all. Every one these days like playing games and some of them love it. Well few years ago PC gaming was not so advance and usually was single user based and if any one wanted to play with any other player then one must have an extra input or any compatible playing device .An era of new technology began after the entrance of Network gaming or Multiplayer gaming which revolutionized the PC gaming world. The term of multiplayer gaming was that from now on if a person wants to play a certain game with any other person the he can easily connect to the other person’s computer using broad band internet connection .Usually before the arrival of Broad Band, games were played thorough Modem. This was perfect in those days as the games were not too heavy and only few packets of data are sent and received. However
Cardinals manager Tony La Russa wouldn't exhibit nearly the same aptitude for triage as he does for unorthodox lineup formation, excessive bullpen usage, and awe-inspiring ego:St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Juan Encarnacion will miss the remainder of the season and his career is in jeopardy after sustaining multiple fractures of his left eye socket when struck by a foul ball Friday night."This is a serious hit, career-threatening," manager Tony La Russa said Saturday. "The other ones are not to be diminished, like Carpenter's arm, but they're not in the same category. It's like Josh."So a run-off-the mill season-ending arm injury isn't so bad, but sustaining an eye socket fracture is like...dying in a car crash. Right. Because those two incidents threaten one's career to approximately the same degree.
STUART Broad returned career-best figures with both bat and ball as England beat India by three wickets in the fourth one-day international at Old Trafford today (AEST). When Broad, who had earlier taken 4-51 as India was dismissed for 212, came to the crease England was in dire straits at 7-114, still needing fewer than a run-a-ball to win. And man-of-the-match Broad helped get them - and a 3-1 lead in the seven-match series - with an assured, unbeaten 45 off 73 balls with three boundaries. Together with Ravi Bopara (43 not out) he put on an unbroken 99, an England record for the eighth wicket, beating the 76 shared by Paul Nixon and Liam Plunkett against New Zealand at Perth in January. Recalled India seamer Ajit Agarkar removed four of England's top six on his way to figures of 4-60 but couldn't inspire his team to victory. Fast bowler Broad, who began his career as a batsman, stylishly forced Zaheer Khan off the backfoot for an all-run four - something unthinkable as far as
Paul Collingwood will be relieved man
England youngsters Ravi Bopara and Stuart Broad put on a remarkable eight wicket partnership of 99 to guide their team to a tense victory over India in the fourth one-day-international at Old Trafford this evening. Chasing a target of 213 to take a 3-1 lead in the seven match series, England looked destined to lose when they slipped to 114-7. But England’s bright new stars managed to keep a cool head and withstand everything the Indians threw at them. Bopara finished on 43 not out and man-of-the-match Broad, who claimed four Indian wickets earlier in the day, hit the winning runs and ended on 45 not out. India captain Rahul Dravid won the toss for an unbelievable fourth time in a row and unsurprisingly chose to bat on a good looking pitch. But his side were struggling right from the beginning of the innings and lost Sourav Ganguly, Dinesh Karthik, and Dravid himself in quick succession to reach 32-3. Veteran master Sachin Tendulkar and all
I'm always happy to promote a good business. I've been having my ears lowered at Crewe Cuts for about 10 years, since we lived along Stoneley Road off the Cross Keys roundabout. Even when we moved about a mile towards Leighton I carried on using this barbers shop. Friendly staff, quick, friendly and only a few quid for a chop. There's another salon around the corner (run by same person) that caters for the ladies, although the staff tend to double-up at both sites. You can't miss it as it's the only business on this stretch of the road, about 200 yards from the Cross Keys pub and on the corner of Hazel Grove...
Well done to Mossy who spotted that the Tetleys sign (see photo quiz below) was from the Cross Keys pub. I was going to post a snap of the pub but this view down Broad Street towards the Cross Keys roundabout gives a decent perspective of the area with the popular boozer visible in the distance. This was taken from the railway bridge, with the Bridge Inn to the right of the photo...
Ok, there's no pulling the wool over your eyes. A couple of Crewe blog readers spotted this from the not-so-cunningly disguised quiz photo below. Please comment if you know any more about the old school building on Broad Street, Coppenhall, now used (I believe) as a family home. There's the Broad Street Infants school opposite still, but I believe that, too, might be merging with another school in the not-to distant future. Similar is happening around the town, with the Edleston Road school also set to close. What future that building? At least conversion to housing saves a slice of history...
Grabbed this image on the way back from Tuesday's walk. I dropped it to b/w as the sunlight through the trees was gorgeous. I've also been enjoying some of the Memory Lane Crewe books of late, and I'm fascinated by the bits of Crewe that can be snapped without cars, cables or satellite dishes. How many times have people with kids been part of this scene? Older lad in a bit of a strop, dragging his heels, not walking with his sister!

AFP AND AP, LONDON - Uncapped pace bowler Stuart Broad was called up yesterday into England's 13-man squad for the first cricket Test against India starting at Lord's on Thursday. Broad, 21, was included after fast bowler Stephen Harmison was rated "extremely doubtful" on Saturday for the opening match of a three-Test series after suffering a recurrence of a hernia injury while playing for Durham. Leicestershire's Broad, the son of former England opening batsman Chris, has played nine one-day internationals but has yet to play in a Test. He was included along with Lancashire quick James Anderson, the pair set to compete for the final place in England's starting side if, as expected, Harmison is unfit. England's chairman of selectors, David Graveney, said: "Stephen Harmison's hernia problem will be re-assessed by our medical team when the team reports for the first Test on Monday evening." Harmison bowled just five overs on Friday in Durham's ongoing match away to county champio
Broad could replace Harmison in the side for the Lord's Test
Leicestershire seamer Stuart Broad has earned a call-up to the England Test squad as cover for Steve Harmison who is nursing a hernia injury. Also included in the 13-man squad is James Anderson as coach Peter Moores expands his bowling options ahead of the first Test against India on Thursday.Harmison aggravated his hernia problem playing for Durham in their County Championship game with Sussex on Friday and could miss the rest of the summer if he undergoes surgery.Chairman of selectors David Graveney said: "At this stage his chances of playing are slim and the choice for the final pace bowling position will be between James Anderson and Stuart Broad."They are different types of bowlers and the final decision will depend on our assessment of the pitch and the weather conditions at Lord's."Graveney said that despite the inexperience the bowling attack had without Harmison he felt they would rise to the challen

1. Our beloved, funny, warmhearted and witty A-Team Cruiser Sanni awarded me with the Rockin’ Girl Blogger!!! Oh, my, this old hag suddenly turned pink girlie… *giggles*
2. Quoting Sanni: “Hands down, our Cyber Cruise Captain definitely rocks! Very real and very funny, this Swedish lady doesn´t shy away from the truth. She´s a breath of fresh air”.
3. Hm. I don’t know about that fresh air though…. How about some farting instead? *ROFLMAO*
4. That’s actually true. The truth-telling, not the farting. Or… well, yes I do that too, butt now it was about the fact that I do say the truth all the time. Maybe too much? What do you think? *giggles*
5. I’m going to continue with my habits and tell you another truth: I really am an old hag - and I recently got proof of it! The tests shows that I’m now entering the menopause for real. No more ovulations, pains - or tampons laying around every where! Yeah! What a freedom! Extended lo

"On the accusation that we are merely ‘talking our book’: we are not short any of the ABX indices or, for that matter, do we travel in these circles from a trading standpoint at all. We are simply trying to understand the credit marketdynamics of these instruments because we have believed for the past two yearsthat the credit bust we see coming will originate from these murky waters. Thetroubles that the Bear Stearns hedge fund has had over the last two weeks speaksdirectly to this risk. The ‘’fat tail’’ potential in this area, given the amountof leverage utilized in this sector, is enormous. Who’s to say if the trade iscrowded or not? Since crowded can’t be quantified, we prefer to stay away fromconjecture and merely focus on the facts. We find that the very entities exposedto losses in credit derivatives are buying more assets to "prop" up prices isextremely disturbing."The quote above from John Succo and Scott Reamer in the Minyan Mailbag. It's a great read and shed
Podcast User Demographics: The broad picture of a niche mediumIt would be a mistake to think that the average podcast user is a 23-year-old male with a college education and a really big comic book collection. Podcast users are not a homogeneous group, and downloads range from music to religious broadcasts to museum tours. That said, overall podcasting user demographics give a broad perspective on the medium.iTunes accounts for 75% of all podcast downloads, according to Podtrac, so comScore's October 2006 study of iTunes podcast downloaders captured most users. On the whole, podcast downloaders tended to be male, young and educated. Notably, people between the ages of 35 and 54 represented about half of the podcasting audience. While the conventional wisdom says that only young, tech-savvy consumers are downloading and listening to podcasts, there is also a sizable market among 35-to-54-year-olds, indicating that the audience is broader than previously thought. Since many of the top po
Oil stocks move up on supply concerns

Spearheading the drive was a$1 jump in crude-oil prices, with the May contract briefly topping $63 on the New York
The broad bean I grew for Miv as a 14th birthday present died while we were on holiday at Uncle Jim's. It was all sad and withered in its pot when we got back.I do think Miv could have taken more care of it, like asking a friend to water it while we were away.I mentioned this to Mum but she just said, 'Get a grip Larry. It was only a pea.'I said, 'It was a bean.''I don't give a fig,' said Mum and started cackling. This is what passes for humour in the Leek household.Fat Bob is off his food again.Mum is refusing to take him to see Mr Clipper. She says he isn't worth the £75 it cost last time. (She means Fat Bob not Mr Clipper. Or maybe both.)Instead Mum phoned the Happy Hound Kennels to ask for advice. They said that Fat Bob had gone through their entire stock of cat food in the first two days and they had had to give him dog food as the cash and carry was shut over Easter. His favourite flavour was 'tripe and onions'.Mum has gone out to buy some Butcher's Choice. It has occ
As information technology has permeated deeper into the insurance enterprise, today’s chief information security officers’ reach has expanded and their role has evolved into a broader risk-mitigation function. The tried-and-true information security metaphor is that of a wall of protection around a sensitive core. The metaphor lives on in the name of the [...]
The latest poll for the statewide races in Alabama was released over the weekend. It has to be disconcerting to the Baxley campaign that while other races are shown as dead heats, Governor Riley has a substantial lead. On the flip side the Democratic party should be encouraged that even slime like Nancy [...]
