AP - British Airways PLC and airports operator BAA said Friday they will begin shifting long-haul flights to Heathrow’s Terminal 5 in June, with services to and from New York’s JFK Airport among the first to transfer.

Just more evidence that the airline is unfit to market itself using this country.Accusations of racism from Captain Doug Maughan, a fifteen-year BA veteran"There was the time when we set off for Los Angeles with a large party of Saudis on board, who had joined us at Heathrow direct from the VIP lounge," he added. "In the cruise, my captain suddenly embarked on an extraordinary rant about 'rag-heads'. He got the word out twice before I stopped him by explaining he was going to be short of a first officer for the return sector if he carried on."Mr Maughan, who lives in Dunblane, Perthshire, was on another flight when a fellow flight officer complained that there were too many Asians in Britain. "The captain turned to me and said: 'I don't suppose there are many of them up your way.' I replie

A wave of protest. That’s what British Airways (BA) provoked this week when it announced — with no warning — that starting November 6 it no longer will transport “unsuitable” items on its fleet of aircraft.
The list includes canoes, hang gliders, pole-vaulting poles, javelins (!) and, yes, surfboards.
Surfboards??? Dude, what is BA thinking?
While the global community of javelin throwers is tiny, surfers number in the thousands. And they are not happy.
A spokesperson for the British Surfing Association (BSA) said she was “extremely shocked” by the decision, especially as some boards weigh much less than many items that were not included in the ban. “We’d find it extremely hard to believe that the average short board would be more difficult to handle when compared to a double bass and a full bag of golf clubs.”
And there’s the rub. BA’s new policy applies
Air company British Airways, asked Droog Design to do something with the spot of their air conditioning system in the first class lounge. Frank Tjepkema was approached for this commission and he designed a kind of tree which transports the air to a higher level and has very decorative branches.

Hello to all visitors! I'm currently tied up with some important work and won't be able to resume blogging fully until next week, but, here's an interesting story about a trio of princesses from Qatar who were ejected from a British Airways line after they refused to sit next to some male passengers. The other passengers seem quite pleased, and with good reason: all that hubbub held up the flight for almost three hours.
According to this MSNBC article, an Al Thani Sheik (the Al Thani family are the royal family in Qatar) held up a British Airways plane for several hours when he realised several female members of his family were seated next to men. When other business class passengers in the plane refused to change places, he stormed into the pilot's cabin to complain.Eventually, he, his family and his servants had to leave the plane. However, by this time three hours had passed and fifty furious passengers missed their connecting flights in London. This story must sound strange to someone who has never lived in Qatar. However, many Qataris believe very strongly that women should not be exposed to strange men. This belief is so strong that many women cover their faces with black veils.A common misconception is that is covering their face is part of their religion. In fact, when women undertake the pilgrimage to Mecca they are obliged to uncover both their hands and their face.Families are also very conc
The Scotsman newspaper reports that in the one week since BA check-in and baggage handling has been outsourced that hardly any BA flights have departed from Edinburgh airport on time. It would appear that BA anticipated that many of their experienced staff would transfer to the new service provider Aviance. This doesn’t seem to have happened and the novice staff are being overwhelmed.

I assume BA have outsourced to save money but if it means that passengers get totally hacked off with the airline, it will be more detrimental than beneficial to the airline. BA seems to be becoming a world leader in shooting itself in the foot.
These further problems can only exacerbate existing delays, detracting for the pleasure of flying away for your Summer holiday.

London/Madrid, May 22 (DPA) British Airways will join forces with the US private equity firm Texas Pacific Group (TPG) in a bid for Spain’s leading airline Iberia, the carrier announced Tuesday in London.
Spanish reports said the bidding consortium would also include the Spanish funds Vista Capital, Inversiones Ibersuizas and Quercus Equity.
TPG had already announced a possible offer worth about 3.6 billion euros ($4.8 billion).
British Airways already holds a 10 percent stake in Iberia. Spanish investors were to control at least 51 percent of the formerly state-owned airline, which has traditionally been strong in Latin America.

The BA cabin crew strike due to start tomorrow Tuesday 30th January has been called off.  I think that this last minute decision will mean that it will be a bit chaotic for BA travellers tomorrrow. Some flights that were cancelled are now back on, passengers are being advised to call BA on a freephone number or to go to the BA website. Have you been affected by this?
I just begin to feel between increased APD, all the problems in December with fog, bad press about airplane emissions, increased check in time for security and possible industrial action, you might begin to wonder why bother to travel by air for leisure?

The planes remain out of services until satisfactory steps are taken to make the planes safe again! The airline say that the estimate of health risk is very low in the estimated 33,000 passengers and around 3000 workers. I'm thinking though if you were on that plan or a employee I would have myself checked out by someone other than their staff! An estimated 33,000 passengers flew on British Airways jets bearing traces of radioactive sushi bar poison polonium-210, it emerged last night. The deadly material — which was used by a mystery assassin to kill former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko — was discovered on three of the airline's Boeing 767s yesterday. Litvinenko — who defected to Britain from Russia in 2000 — was killed when a speck of polonium was put in his food at a sushi bar. [Read More]
