In the minor leagues of high finance, certain sectors of our lending establishment have long feasted on the desperate and naïve elements of our society living from paycheck to paycheck. Stocks on the Brink of a Major Technical Breakdown
Just a few days ago I was looking for a breakout in the S&P 500 ($SPX) from a short-term triangle. Now, the SPX is on the verge of breaking down from the triangle. In setting up the triangle, I pointed out that the SPX had to get above 1400 to confirm a breakout attempt. The index failed well short of 1400.While the whipsaws are unfolding in stocks, keep close watch on the Japanese yen. Yesterday's post about the yen proved prescient in predicting today's drop in stocks.Further upside in the yen could cause the SPX to breakdown below the triangle. A breakdown will be confirmed with if the SPX drops below 1310. You might use this level as an action point an wait until it's broken before pressing any bearish bets. With the way the market has whipped around this week, it mak

Mu called me early this morning, after we had gotten our kids and husbands out the door. We planned where we should meet for morning coffee and battle strategizing."I love the coffee at the bistro but they don't serve eggs there," I lamented."The atmosphere is good there, but I wish they would have bagels. I've mentioned it to them but they haven't taken the hint" she said with a tone of frustration. "The only thing that really gets me up in arms is when people don't give appropriate homage to food."We then agreed to rush through a shower and meet at 9am at an alternate location. This place had a fireplace, okay coffee, and scored a 6 on atmosphere. We'll take it.So we met. We talked. We laughed. I admitted where I was struggling in my attitude. "You've got a lot of internal conflict, you know that?" she said with a concerned look on her face as though maybe I should be eating more spinach and then the iron would fortify me and I would be more resolute, stable. Baggage Handlers: A Species on the Brink of Extinction?
Sick of turning up at LAX, only to find your luggage has been sent to JFK? We hear you. And so too does IBM. That’s why the computer company long known as Big Blue has come out with a new robotic baggage handling system that, it says, will cut down on the amount of lost baggage being transferred between connecting flights, as well as improve connection times and cut down on operating costs. Of course, an added benefit that IBM doesn’t mention is, robots don’t go through your underwear and steal your digital camera. At least, not yet. Under the new system, each piece of luggage is tagged with an RFID chip – a miniscule computer chip that holds a tracking number. Wal-Mart already uses them in keeping track of their deliveries (rip a box of $4 Made-in-China sandwich grills apart and, eventually, you’ll find the little guy), and IBM and Vanderlande Industries see the new tracking technology as the perfect way for their robots to send your luggage to the destination it’s suppose

On The Brink Of Incredible Things
Lately I've been getting the feeling that we could achieve great or terrible things in the near future. Our economy, our world politics, and our rapidly advancing technology all seem to be coming together to say, "Something big awaits just beyond the horizon." But will it be good or bad? The Bible says no man shall know the end of days, and maybe that's why things seemed so "normal," even while unprecedented actions were being taken by our President, both at home and abroad. What if we're just accepting it all as not an "end of the world" kind of thing because we simply don't see how it all fits together? I realized that there is a definite possibility that there's a method to this madness, and that everything that's happened in the news has taken place for a reason. But of course, that's how pure paranoia is born. "Everything matters! It's all a massive conspiracy!!" Haha, right. Ok, so if we forg

Britney Spears: On The Brink Of Losing Custody
It’s hard to believe that Britney Spears’ situation could get much worse. But believe it or not, the “Gimme More” singer could be in for a rude awakening as early as this week regarding her custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline. According to inside sources, hot shot lawyer Gloria Allred is supplying a “secret witness” that is said to be the trump card that K-Fed is counting on to win him custody of Jayden James and Sean Preston. This “secret witness” wrote an official declaration and signed it last week. And Allred filed the report with the court immediately. Rumor has it that the declaration is very critical of Spears’ parenting skills and even details some drug usage by the troubled singer in the presence of her kids. And the witness may or may not be recognizable to the public. She told press, “You may recognize him as we walk into court. But maybe not. He is not famous. This segment of 60 Minutes needs to be seen by every American.Alexander Tytler is said to have remarked that a democracy can only survive until the people realize they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. We need a President who is not like every other politician. In short, a person with the courage and conviction to stop our ballooning welfare state and runaway militarism. There is only one person in the 2008 race who fits that description. While career politicians who lust after power and plaudits dissemble, nuance and triangulate their way to applause lines, saying whatever they think they need to say in the moment to get elected, Ron Paul stands in stark contrast to these frauds. He speaks the plain truth and has done so consistently throughout his entire public service. The only way to know that you're looking at the genuine article is to examine their record, and Paul's record speaks for itself. There is no guessing about it. It needs no spin from high-priced c

Calabria region of Italy sits at the brink of what could be a property-buying frenzy
As Europe's property markets develop, property investors are beginning to look elsewhere for opportunities. Calabria, in Southern Italy, could be one such opportunity, according to Debbie Espin of Overseas Property UK. Surrounded by clear silver-blue sea on three sides, Calabria is one of the warmest and sunniest corners of Europe. Even in mid-October, temperatures remain in the upper 70s. You'll find lemon groves, vineyards, and ancient chestnut woods, fishing villages, stone-built watch-towers, and donkeys carrying firewood. And wine festivals, religious parades, and a wealth of traditions that are deep-rooted rather than something dreamt up by the heritage industry. You'll see men playing centuries-old card games, women doing embroidery, and shepherds tending their flocks just as their fathers did.
