Boston Beer is celebrating the first batches of beer rolling out of its new production facility outside of Allentown, Pa. Samuel Adams is being made at the Upper Macungie Township brewery, which Boston Beer acquired from Diageo for $55 million. The company put an additional $5 million in renovations into the plant, which had previously produced Smirnoff Ice. Before that the plant was used to make
My brother Dilip and the Malls Balls in Adelaide, South Australia.
"Leena, look--balls, hee hee."
Meet my older brother Dilip. Dilip and I are alike in many ways. We both love to talk a lot and tell jokes in a really loud voice, we are both brown, and we both giggle at silly things like the Malls Balls in Adelaide.

Adding fruit to beers will add a new and unique twist of complexity to the beverage.
Raspberry wheat for example, would add a tart flavor as peach would add the smooth sweet taste that you all associate with peaches in your brew and make it as home brewery.

One of the more ghoulish sounding objectives in marketing is the drive to create cradle-to-the-grave consumers. A mind that is still in its formative stages and that does not yet have the capacity to think critically or to visit the website Snopes.com is likely to believe anything, whether it’s religious hullabaloo popularized by ancient tribesman who had yet to understand the germ theory of dis

Drinks giant Diageo ended months of speculation with an announcement today about beer production plans in Ireland. The $1.01 billion plan keeps part of the company's famous St James's Gate brewery in operation.Diageo plans to close about half of St James's Gate and shut down breweries in Kilkenny and Dundalk. The company will also build a new brewery at the edge of Dublin. Diageo Chief Executive Officer Paul Walsh is quoted in press reports that the move shows the company's commitment to the "spiritual home" of Guinness. The Dublin location is the top tourist attraction in Ireland.Diageo plans to sell part of the site and the breweries in Kilkenny and Dundalk. Estimates are that the sale could attract between $750 million and $800 million. The St James's Gate site is where Arthur Guinness
Pickles N Ammo and the Hamburgler joined the masses:This place is huge. Nicely done. Just look at the size of that HVAC system and enough copper to keep you playing Grand Theft Scrap Metal Thief for a year. We are suppose to say something about their great beers, right? That first one is the "Classic Cheeseburger with a Twist". $10.50 for 1/3 # natural beef (still not sure what that means though) marinated in Island Spices with Gruyere Cheese, House Pickles, Tomato, Grilled Red Onion, Mayo, and Pub Mustard. A bit different, not bad at all, acceptable price for the nature of the Pearl I would think. The second one is an "Elk Burger". Natural Elk Patty with Roasted Shallot, Thyme Aioli, and Gruyere Cheese for $11.95. Of course it was a bit gamey, its elk........car.........game on. De
Fact #1: Vermont has plenty of cows.Fact #2: It takes plenty of energy to make beer.Long Trail Brewing Co. in Bridgewater, Vt., has decided to combine these two facts. The brewery announced plans to buy 25 percent of its electricity from Central Vermont Public Service Corp.'s Cow Power program, which uses methane from manure from dairy farms to make electricity. With the move Long Trail becomes the largest commercial Cow Power customer. Only Green Mountain College buys more energy generated by collecting and burning the methane from cow manure.Long Trail uses 70,000 kilowatt/hours of electricity each month. The switch to Cow Power is the equivalent of taking 106 cars off the roads. The switch will cost Long Trail about $10,000 a year in additional energy costs.

Carolina Brewery - Great Place to Watch the Game and Grab a BeerThe original Carolina Brewery sits on the famous Franklin Street in Chapel Hill. Just down the street from UNC Chapel Hill, this local brewery has long been one of the most popular spots in Chapel Hill to watch a UNC game, or hang out with friends after work. Great Place To Eat in Chapel Hill and PittsboroAnd it's not just the college crowd, either. This brewery has been voted "Best Brewery/Restaurant in the Southeast", and once you try the beer on tap, along with a stack of Brewhouse Ribs, you'll come back again. There's even a seasonal menu, which changes four times a year, and offers things like a Fried Oyster Po Boy sandwich, and Beermisu, a brewery twist on tiramisu made with seasonal porter or stout. For the past decade, there’s been almost constant development on the Wilmington riverfront. What was once a dull cluster of old warehouses and industrial lots is now home to high-rise condominium buildings, dozens of town homes, brand new office buildings, outlet shops, a minor league baseball stadium, a farmer’s market, and of course, several restaurants. Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant appeared on the scene in 2003, in a 9,000 square foot building which includes a small bar area, a downstairs dining room, an outdoor dining area, and a second level with an additional bar and banquet room. What really makes this building special is the on-site brewery, where guests can watch the brewing process. In addition to the Wilmington location, Iron Hill has seven locations in the Delaware Va
Ever visit Crozet, Va.? Have you heard of Starr Hill Brewery? No?Well some of the folks in St. Louis at Anheuser-Busch have. Earlier this week they announced a deal under which A-B will serve as the master distributor for Starr Hill's line of beers. Starr Hill has six employees and turns out 5,000 barrels of beer annually. Founded in 1999, the company now has what many craft brewers 10 times their size wish they had: access to a network of 600 wholesalers from coast to coast. What is behind A-B's decision to partner with such a small player? According to media reports about the deal, A-B wants to help Starr Hill build its brand in Virginia and then expand it from New York to Georgia during the next three to five years. If they have momentum behind the product it could go national at that point. With craft beer sales up 11 percent during 2007, A-B has been active launching its own line of brews aimed at the segment and in signing deals with craft brewers around the country, most focuse
A thief in Ireland has taken shoplifting beer to new heights.A man simply drove a truck through the gates of the Guinness brewery in Dublin on Wednesday and hitched up a trailer with 450 kegs, then drove away before security staff realized what happened. The theft was captured by security cameras. Police believe the thief counted on going undetected in the bustling loading dock area of the St. James's Gate Brewery complex, which is even busier this time of year as the brewery works to fill holiday orders.Police say the trailer had 180 kegs of Guinness, 180 kegs of Budweiser and 90 kegs of Carlsberg on board, worth more than $94,000. The vehicle, the driver and the beer are still missing.

The construction will increase brewing and warehouse capacity, as well as provide new office space for Abita.Abita expects to sell more than 62,000 barrels of beer this year.
Unser Brewery,Laufenstrasse 16, Basel, Switzerland
It’s been too long since the last review. I know. And I have no excuses for it either. But last night we braved the cold temperatures and biting winds to bring you the latest Basel Bar review. We suffer for our art. Here are our thoughts on the Unser Brewery. I should also note that this place is worth going to, simply to open the door and smell the hops and brewery smell inside. Heaven!
Date and time: 25/10/07 around 7.30 - 11pm
Location and ease of access: This one is kinda out of the way and not very well sign-posted. But it’s a hidden gem and worth the walk. Located on the Grosse Basel side of town and along from the train station it is located at the back of the actual brewery. 4/10
Beer selection and prices: Four of their homegrown beers on tap, a blonde, a dunkel (dark beer), a special October Beer which we sampled and one other I can’t remember! Prices were a little on the high side but worth the
The Human Cyburger and D'Angus Beefheart hit the Broadway Grill & Brewery and cross the streams of grilled meats. (yeah we know the photos are a bit murky).Human Cyburger had "The Jumbo Ultra Dogburger" that consisted of 1/3 pounder, grilled hot dog, egg, and cheese. Served with chips for $8.50. D'Angus Beefheart stayed on task with the "Pub Patty Melt". 1/3 pounder, grilled onions, swiss, "pub made 1000 Island dressing" (getting fancy) on rye. $7.50 with chips. Also, if you like a spicy sumthin' sumthin', you might want to try their chili-beer. For those of us that don't have the funds or the vacation time to fly to Germany, where better to get a little taste of Octoberfest than a brewery? Coming up this weekend on Friday and Saturday, the Harpoon Brewery is celebrating the coming of Fall with some of my favorite things in life: beer and meat.Celebrate the fall season Harpoon-style with fresh Harpoon and UFO beers, bratwurst from Kayem, and other great food. Plus live local rock bands and non-stop German Oompah bands. Admission is $15 per person and there is a free shuttle from South Station (signs on Summer St). Parking is available across the street from the brewery, but come on guys. Don't drink and drive. Either sucker someone into being a designated driver (Designated driver at a brewery? I think that was Dante's 7th circle of Hell) or take the shuttle . The Silver Line also goes out to the brewery, so that's another option.Click (here) for the link to the official website or see the schedule below:Friday, Se
I am not sure how old you have to be to remember Hamm's beer, but I remember when they made it over on the East side of St. Paul, near Swede Hollow, at the Hamm's Brewery.
There aren't many ruins around the twin cities so I just had to take some pictures. The site is wide open and maybe just a little spooky because it is so quiet. The brewery site is huge, covering 30 acres, with 40 or more buildings, some old and some modern. The pictures were taken in the oldest section where two years ago a fire damaged what was originally the carpenter's shop, built in 1864, the year that Theodore Hamm bought the facility.
The Brewery is not on the national register of historic places, and has been vacant for 25 years. The national preservation conference will be held in Saint Paul this year , from October 2 through the 6, and the story of the Hamm's brewery is on the agenda, apparently as a success story, which I am sure it will be . . . it is owned

In order to try to keep pace with growing demand for its Samuel Adams brand, Boston Beer Co. had been reviewing plans to build a new brewery in Freetown, Mass. The company has decided to scrap those plans, which had an estimated cost of more than $200 million, and instead purchase a Pennsylvania brewery that Diageo was using to make Smirnoff Ice malternatives for $55 million. The plant, located outside of Allentown and visible from I-78, has changed hands a number of times over the years. Shaefer, Stroh, Pabst and Diageo have all owned it. It will add 1.6 million barrels to Boston Beer's capacity and provides easy access to major markets such as New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.Boston Beers sales were up 17 percent in 2006. The company said the cost of building a new plant continued to grow as steel and equipment costs have increased. The company has a small brewing operation in Boston and owns a brewery in Cincinnati. The Samuel Adams brand has also been contract brewed at s
The Information Center for Human Rights and Democracy (ICHRD), a Hong Kong-based group that is one of the most reliable sources regarding human rights inside communist China, says Chinese police and environmental protesters clashed at a brewery in Yuanshi over the weekend. The protesters claim the brewery, in Sichuan province, is contaminating drinking water and water used for farm irrigation.According to the ICHRD, seven protesters were taken into custody by the People’s Armed Police and 20 others were injured. The brewery is run by China Resources Breweries Co., a state-run company that has links to SABMiller. Local citizens claim the brewery dumped untreated waste water into a river. While China is going through rapid industrialization, there have been a number of recent protests by people concerned about the environmental impact of factories and chemical plants. Environmental laws in China are decades behind western regulations when it comes to things like waste water treatment an
Fischerstube Brewery,
Rheingasse 45,
Basel,
Switzerland
I know it’s late but it was really tough to pick a pub to start our crusade. After all, this is essentially the pub that all else will be measured by. We have to set our standards in this pub and adhere to the strict system from now on.
So we settled on the Fischerstube Brewery. I’d been there two or three times before (The Big Finn and Mrs. TBF introduced me to it!) and I’ve always had a good experience. It’s what I would consider a good Swiss pub and is generally filled with locals especially around Fasnacht time.
Date and time: 10/07/07 around 8.30 - 10.30pm
Location and ease of access: Very easy to get to. A five minute walk from the Mittlere Brucke and a major tram line. Central Basel in other words. 8/10
Beer selection and prices: Being a micro-brewery they only sell their own brews. There are three to choose from, the Hell (lager), the Dunkel (dark) and the Hell spezial. A big plus is

I have been following from a distance the attempts of New Hampshire's Smuttynose Brewery to expand in the Portsmouth area. They make enjoyable beers and I made a couple of stops over the years at their sister brewpub, Portsmouth Brewing, in the city's historic district. Portsmouth is a great New England sea coast town and having a brewery like Smuttynose just adds to its character and attractiveness. Smuttynose has grown steadily over the years and graduated from microbrewery status in 2006, when for the first time it crested above the 15,000 barrel mark. With the growth has come the need for more space. One would think that the city of Portsmouth and the state of New Hampshire would do everything possible to accommodate the growth of a great company producing a homegrown product. But that has not been the case.Smuttynose President Peter Egelston wanted to build a new brewery on Portsmouth's Lafayette Road, but the City Council denied a zoning change. The location is zoned for office

In a move to keep up with international rivals that are investing heavily in China, Anheuser-Busch announced today it will build a new brewery in the city of Foshan, in Guangdong province. This is the first new brewery Anheuser-Busch has constructed outside of the United States. The $63 million plant will brew Budweiser and Harbin for the southeastern part of China. When it comes on line in late 2008 the brewery will have a 2.2 million barrel capacity. A-B plans to push its brands in to dozens of new markets in China, where Budweiser has been brewed for 11 years and distributed mainly in the northern part of the country.Beer consumption in China is up 78 percent since 1997.

Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant Group plans to open seven new locations during 2007, including six under the Gordon Biersch Brewery banner. The company plans to expand in Las Vegas, Chicago, Phoenix, Kansas City and Maryland.

Steelback Brewery owner Frank D'Angelo wants to expand his empire into sports and now that negotiations between the Pittsburgh Penguins, the National Hockey League and Canadian billionaire Jim Balsillie have fallen apart, D'Angelo might get his chance.
Over the summer D'Angelo made an attempt to become owner of a new Ottawa franchise in the Canadian Football League. That effort failed, but D'Angelo and billionaire partner Dr. Barry Sherman have turned their attention to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The NHL thought it had a buyer for the Penguins and Balsillie had a letter of agreement in place to buy the club for an estimated $175 million from the ownership group headed by Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux. The future of the club in Pittsburgh hinges on the construction of a new arena, which itself hinges on approval of a casino in the city to help fund the construction costs.
D'Angelo has told the media he would keep the team in Pittsburgh.
Boston Beer Co. is looking at options to increase its production capacity and may spend $200 million to build a new brewery.
The maker of the Samuel Adams line of beers has been considering a site in Freetown, Mass., but is also evaluating whether it should expand its two current breweries or acquire another existing facility. The company acquired the former Hudepohl-Schoenling Brewery in Cincinnati eight years ago and spent $7 million in 2005 to expand capacity at the plant.
Plans for the Freetown brewery call for a 700,000 to 1 million barrel operation. Costs for the plant have nearly doubled from original estimates. The brewery would employ about 75 people. The company has already secured a 20-year tax agreement with the community to help fund the project and the site has good water and sewer capacity, as well as access to rail and road transportation.
Founded in 1984 by Jim Koch, Boston Beer recently reported record quarterly profits. The company finds itself in an interesting
Mexican brewer Grupo Modelo, which makes the top selling U.S. import Corona, announced this week it plans to build a $520 million brewery in Piedras Negras, Coahuila. The brewery, locoated in northern Mexico, will add 10 million hectoliters to Modelo's annual capacity when it is fully operational in 2010.
Anheuser-Busch has a 50 percent stake in Modelo. The company recently finished a $470 million expansion of its Oaxaca brewing operation, doubling the plant's capacity.
Thanks to the management and staff at Steam Whistle Brewery in Toronto, Canadian troops serving in Afghanistan will be able to enjoy a brew this holiday season. Beer is not readily available in the Muslim country, but Canadian troops are allowed to have alcohol on base three times a year: Oktoberfest; an event in November; and Christmas.
Steam Whistle employees donated their weekly beer allotment and it was matched by the company co-founders Cam Heaps and Greg Taylor. The Canadian Armed Forces agreed to accept the shipment of Steam Whistle Pilsner in holiday 12-packs.
The gesture of the Steam Whistle Brewery staff should remind us all that freedom is not free. Politics is politics, but no matter what your feeling is about the fighting in Afghanistan or Iraq the fact is that there are thousands of men and women half way around the world paying the tab for you and me.
While we cannot ship alcohol to our troops, we can show our support and concern through letters and care packages. If
You probably know someone who claims to have had a religious experience in a bar. If they happen to live in Wisconsin they just might be telling you the truth.
Adullam Vineyard Church in Green Bay, Wisc., is a start up church with a bit of twist. Services are held in a meeting room at a brewpub. Bill and Teresa Sergott left the Catholic Church and became licensed pastors with Vineyard Community Churches. They came to Green Bay in 2002 and began forming the church. In April, Adullam started meeting in a room at Titletown Brewery. About 40 people attend the weekly services.
Titletown Brewing Co. opened on December 3, 1996, in a disused train depot that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1899, the station was the arrival point in Green Bay for Presidents Taft, Franklin Roosevelt and Eisenhower.
The Rolling Rock brand has packed its bags and moved to New Jersey, but Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell made an announcement this week designed to get the disused Latrobe Brewery back up and running. Pennsylvania has given City Brewing Co. of Wisconsin, which purchased the plant from InBev USA, a $4.5 million package of loans and grants to upgrade and expand the plant. The brewery has been closed since July. That's when Anheuser-Busch purchased the Rolling Rock brand for $82 million.City Brewing plans to employ at least 250 people, many of them former Latrobe Brewery workers. State officials say the company will invest $10 million in the brewery and expand the plant's capacity to 2 million barrels. City Brewing markets brands such as LaCrosse Beer, but it also contract brews beer, malt beverages, teas, energy drinks and soft drinks for other firms.
Before there were the Budweiser Frogs or Stroh's Alex the Dog, there was the Hamm's Beer Bear. The work includes pencil sketches and finished drawings showing the famous Beer Bear in action. The auction will also put 20 other pieces of Hamm's memorabilia up for bid.More information on the sale and the chance to bid online is available at www.schultzauctioneers.com.
