I've fallen off the sports planet over the last week due to Guitar Hero III. I made the mistake of allowing my wife to borrow the game from my sister-in-law's kids. Big mistake. I'm averaging nine hours of work, two hours of commuting, 10 hours of Guitar Hero, and three hours of sleep this week. That stupid game is so ridiculously addictive...and the thing is, I'm not even sure I like it. I just h
Let's just say....it's a good thing we're leaving Miller Park.----Zach Duke was roughed up. The Bucs faced a 4-0 deficit after 1 inning. They did bring out the bats, though, scoring 6 straight runs to actually take a two run lead (Bay and LaRoche homered, Nate hit a 3-run double).----Duke, Denny Bautista, and John Grabow combined to give up seven unanswered runs. The Pirate bats failed to continue

A double dose of bad news.-----[Yahoo.com]The following two events have now taken place twice in one week:1) The Buccos wore sweet Pittsburgh Crawfords uniforms.2) Paul Maholm pitched a great game, but we lose anyway.----------Just a stellar effort from Paul today. 8 innings and one run (Cameron solo shot in the 2nd). 6 K's and only 4 hits. [Yahoo.com]--------That didn't work out too well.--------The Bucs were in the game early. They actually could have been in control had they not gone 1/11 with runners in scoring position for the first 5 innings. Top of the Order: Three errors in the first inning dug the Braves a hole from which they nearly emerged, only to lose yet another one-run game and fall to 2-3 on the homestand.

[Recap]-------Talk about weird: Tom Gorzelanny. He leads the Pirates in wins, with four. He also has an ERA north of 6.--Gorzo was mediocre, but didn't have to be great last night against Dave Bush and the Brew Crew. Tom struggled through some innings but kept damage down, giving up just a Corey Hart solo shot in the first four innings. He would give up another run in the 6th, and only pitched 5+
Jason Bay blasted a two-run shot and Xavier Nady added a solo shot to power the Pirates to a 8-4 win over the Brewers at PNC Park. Chris Gomez plated two runs and Nate McLouth went 4-for-4 with three runs scored as Pittsburgh salvaged the finale of the three-game series to snap a three-game skid. Tom Gorzelanny evened his record at 4-and-4 with the win, tossing five innings of eight-hit, two-run

Ben Sheets gave up just one run in a complete game effort as the Brewers downed the Pirates 4-1 in the middle test of a three-game series at PNC Park. Sheets struck out six while scattering 11 hits and a run to move to 5-and-1 with the win. Rickie Weeks homered and Ryan Braun tripled home a run for Milwaukee, which has won two in-a-row on the heels of a five-game skid. J.J. Hardy and Corey Hart

This was, without a doubt in my mind, the worst Pirate game to watch this year (to date).--Why?---1. Struggling prospect Manny Parra shut down the offense.2. Atrocious work in the field. Of course there was the Freddy-not-knowing-how-many-outs-thing, but once Milwaukee started to pile on, things just got sloppy, even if they didn't cost us runs.3. The pitching. Paul Maholm wasn't terrible, keeping

Juan Pierre doubled home the go-ahead runs in the top of the ninth and Andruw Jones plated an insurance run as the Dodgers rallied for a 6-4 win over the Brewers at Miller Park. Pierre finished 3-for-5 with three RBI and a stolen base for Los Angeles, which overcame a 4-1 deficit with two in the seventh and three in the ninth. Jonathan Broxton got credit for the win and Takashi Saito struck out
Ryan Braun clubbed a pair of solo home runs to lead the Brewers in a 5-3 win over the Cardinals at Miller Park. Corey Hart and J.J. Hardy each had an RBI double, and Prince Fielder knocked in a run with a sac fly for Milwaukee, which has won two of the first three games in the four-game set. Jeff Suppan allowed only a run on six hits and five walks over seven strong innings to improve to 2-and-2
Matt Treanor went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer as the Marlins completed a three-game sweep of the Brewers with a 7-2 victory at Dolphin Stadium. Jorge Cantu launched a two-run shot and Luis Gonzalez went 3-for-3 as the Fish improved to 20-and-14 with their fifth win in six games. Logan Kensing struck out four over two-and-two-thirds innings of scoreless relief to get the win. Mike Rivera had an RBI single for the Brewers, who have dropped six in-a-row. Starting pitcher Carlos Villanueva had two hits and an RBI, but was shelled for seven runs on 10 hits in five innings to suffer the loss.
Milwaukee Brewers não tem estado nada bem. Averbou na noite passada a 8ª derrota nos últimos 11 jogos revelando uma clara falta de capacidade de concretização. Scott Olsen allowed just two hits while striking out eight and walking four over eight-and-two-thirds scoreless innings to lead the Marlins to a 3-0 victory over the Brewers in the opener of a three-game set at Dolphin Stadium. Olsen improved to 4-and-1 with the win. Kevin Gregg recorded the final out to notch his sixth save after Olsen loaded the bases in the top of the ninth. Luis Gonzalez had an RBI single and Mike Jacobs smacked a two-run homer for the Fish, who upped their record to 18-and-14 on the season. Jeff Suppan allowed all three runs over five frames to fall to 1-and-2 with the loss. The Brewers have dropped four straight.

Prince Fielder pelted a pair of two-run homers, including the go-ahead shot in the eighth inning, to power the Brewers to a 5-4 win over the Phillies at Miller Park. It was Fielder's ninth career multi-homer game. Gabe Kapler also drove in a run for Milwaukee, which won its second straight to improve to 13-and-8. Mitch Stetter threw two scoreless innings of relief to get the win and Derrick Turnbow worked the ninth for his first save. Cole Hamels struck out 11 over seven-plus frames, but gave up all five runs to fall to 2-and-3 with the loss. Chase Utley went 2-for-3 with his major league-leading 10th home run of the season for Philadelphia. Greg Dobbs and Pat Burrell also went deep for the Phils, who had won their previous three.
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Gabe Kapler has been enjoying a career renaissance, so to speak - especially with his bat. His hot hitting continued Tuesday as his game-winning, run-scoring single in the bottom of the 12th inning helped Milwaukee edge the St. Louis Cardinals 9-8 at Miller Park. The Brewers offense was led by Prince Fielder who had 3 hits and an RBI while Ricky Weeks and Ryan Braun added 2 hits apiece - with Weeks adding a triple, stolen base, 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs while Braun added a double, a run scored and 2 RBIs; Gabe Gross and Kapler had 2 hits each, as well. The winning pitcher for Milwaukee was Seth McClung (1-0) who pitched a scoreless 12th inning, striking out 2. St. Louis was led by Aaron Miles with 4 hits, a run scored and an RBI while Skip Schumaker and Troy Gla
The Brewers lost the opener of a two game set to the Cardinals 4-3 at Miller Park last night. Skip Schumaker doubled home the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning. Derrick Turnbow took the loss for Milwaukee. Rickie Weeks and Ryan Braun each scored a run in the third to tie the game at two, and Corey Hart tripled in a run to tie the game again in the eighth for the Brew Crew. St. Louis snapped a two-game skid to improve to 13-and-7. Milwaukee slipped to 11-and-8. The two teams meet again this afternoon at Miller Park.
Cincinnati Reds third baseman Edwin Encarnacion was having a bad day in the field in Sunday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers as he had committed an error. But he won the crowd at Great American Ball Park over as his home run (his second of the day) sparked a Reds rally as Cincinnati edged the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 in 10 innings. Cincinnati was led by the aforementioned Encarnacion as he went 2-for-4 with 2 HRs, 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs while Jeff Keppinger and Paul Bako each added 2 hits apiece - with Keppinger adding 2 doubles; starting pitcher Aaron Harang had a solid effort as he got the no-decision, pitching 8 innings, allowing only 4 hits, 1 earned run while striking out 8. The win went to Jared Burton (1-1) as he pitched the 10th inning, allowing 2 hits, walking 1 while striking
Milwaukee Brewers third baseman/outfielder Bill Hall has as of late been a Cincinnati Reds killer, especially at Great American Ball Park. Saturday's game against the Reds would illustrate that point perfectly as Hall's 2-run double rallied the Brewers as they scratched out a 5-3 win. Milwaukee was led by the aforementioned Hall, who went 2-for-5 with a double while driving in 3 runs; Corey Hart added his first home run of the year. Starting pitcher Jeff Suppan pitched well, going 6 innings, allowing only 3 hits, 2 earned runs, walking 1 while striking out 3; however, the win went to Guillermo Mota (1-0). Mota pitched 2 innings, striking out 2; closer Eric Gagne notched his 6th save while pitching a scoreless 10th inning. Cincinnati was led by rookie Joey Votto with a home run, a run score

Adam Wainwright pitched two-run ball into the eighth inning and also homered as the Cardinals hung on to beat the Brewers 5-4 at Busch Stadium. Albert Pujols had a two-run double and Skip Schumaker also homered for St. Louis, which built a 5-1 lead in the fifth inning. Wainwright got his second win and Jason Isringhausen survived two runs in the ninth to post his sixth save as the Redbirds improved to 11-and-4. J.J. Hardy and Craig Counsell had RBI doubles in the ninth to get Milwaukee close. Carlos Villanueva took the loss.
The Brewers reached an agreement on a minor league contract with pitcher Jeff Weaver on Tuesday. Weaver will undergo a physical and sign his contract today before reporting to Arizona where he will join Triple-A Nashville at a later date. The 31-year-old went 7-and-13 with a 6.20 ERA in 27 starts for Seattle last season.
The Brewers rallied past the Mets, 9-7, in the finale of a three-game set at Shea Stadium on Sunday. Gabe Kapler had three hits, including a homer, three runs scored and three RBI. Corey Hart went 4-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored for Milwaukee, which took two-of-three in the series. Ryan Braun and Jason Kendall plated a pair of runs apiece in the victory. Salomon Torres tossed two scoreless innings of relief to earn his second win, and Eric Gagne pitched a perfect ninth for his third save. The Brewers open a series at St. Louis tomorrow.
The Cincinnati Reds on Thursday, especially closer Francisco Cordero, had some motivation going for them as they faced the Milwaukee Brewers; Cordero was the Brewers' closer last season and he certainly got the business by the crowd at Miller Park. But it was the combined efforts of Reds starting pitcher Aaron Harang, Cordero and the bat of Edwin Encarnacion as they defeated the Brewers, 4-1. Cincinnati was led by Encarnacion, going 2-for-3, with a home run, 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs while Scott Hatteberg and Paul Bako chipped in with 2 hits apiece - with Hatteberg hitting a double with a run scored while Bako produced 2 RBIs. Winning pitcher Harang (1-1) pitched 8 innings, allowing only 5 hits, an earned run while striking out 3; Cordero picked up his second save of the season. Milwaukee's
Adam Dunn and Corey Patterson each homered as the Reds pounded out 14 hits to bomb the Brewers, 12-4. Josh Fogg pitched five innings, allowing just one earned run to win for the first time in a Cincinnati uniform. The victory broke the Reds' two-game skid. The series finale is this afternoon with Aaron Harang looking for his first victory on the year. He'll be opposed by righty Carlos Villanueva. Game time is 1:05 p.m.
Rickie Weeks singled in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Brewers outlasted the Reds 3-2 at Miller Park. Corey Patterson homered off Eric Gagne in the top of the ninth to tie the game at two for Cincinnati. Jason Kendall had an RBI single in the third and Bill Hall homered in the seventh for Milwaukee, which improved to 6-and-1 on the season. Soloman Torres got credit for the win, while David Weathers suffered the loss. Patterson also singled in a run in the seventh inning for the Reds, who fell to 4-and-4.
I attended the Ben Sheets complete game shutout today, and thought I would let you in on a few things I saw/noticed. Of course, Ben Sheets dominated. He struck out all three batters in the first inning, and that really got the fans going. I believe two of the three strikeouts were looking.

It has happened to all of us, and if it hasn't...it will. You and your friends are on your way home after a good day at the old ballpark and as you begin your travels, in between singing along to 'Hey Jude,' your automobile sputters and dies the hell out. The reasons could be many...maybe you just weren't paying attention to the gas gauge, or you ran out of blinker fluid, or there was ear wax built up in your tailpipe. Whatever the reason, AAA Wisconsin and Prairie Land Towing got your back -- Fo' free!Free emergency vehicle assistance is provided for every home game at Miller Park one hour before the first pitch, and from the seventh inning until the stadium lots are cleared after the game. Rickie Weeks belted a solo home run on the first pitch of the game as the Brewers crushed the Cubs 8-2 in the middle of a season-opening series at Wrigley Field. Jeff Suppan gave up just two runs on six hits over six-and-a-third innings to pick up the win. Jason Kendall went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while Ryan Braun added three hits, an RBI and scored once for Milwaukee, which won the season-opener over Chicago 4-3 in 10 innings on Monday. Gabe Kapler, Bill Hall and Corey Hall all knocked in a run in the victory.
Five key fantasy players for the Brew Crew.
Rickie Weeks There is not a whole lot to say about him, but I do think he is getting to the point where he is overrated a bit, which is why he makes this column. He still has contact problems at 72% which was balanced last year by a 16% BB rate, though that walk rate is a bit of an outlier for him. His xBA was still only .255 last year, which gives a
Every day the craft beer segment evolves. At times it can be difficult to recognize exactly what the changes mean. Business conditions claim a victim here, two companies decide to merge to better compete there. A brewpub opens a new location, while another company signs a deal with a larger brewer to try to secure better distribution in return for reduced control.Sometimes it is hard to figure out which of these moves are best for the companies or the craft brewing movement. In many cases, it might be years before we know for sure if the promise of the press release will be fulfilled. In the last few weeks there have been a number of announcements. Three stand out in my mind as worth noting and commenting about.Flying Dog Brewery Consolidates its Brewing Operations in Maryland: Flying Dog has been around a surprising 17 years. It is part of the Colorado craft beer scene, which is why some people raised a brow when the company acquired a brewing facility in Frederick, Maryland. The compa
By Stephen Rhodes Just a little over a week after the Milwaukee Brewers lost their closer Francisco Cordero to the Cincinnati Reds, the team, according to Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports, on Saturday is near a contract agreement with reliever Eric Gagne; this has been verified by an "industry source". Terms of the contract have not been divulged; however, because of Gagne's recent track record, it will probably be one year in length. The Brewers, assuming that they sign Gagne, will have an interesting competition for the closer's role on the team. Milwaukee very recently signed ex-Cleveland Indians reliever David Riske and traded for ex-Pittsburgh Pirates reliever Salomon Torres. In addition, they already have reliever Derrick Turnbow, who had lost the closer's role to Cordero in 2006. Signing Gagne does have some risk involved; expect the Brewers to put Riske, Torres and Turnbow into set-up roles, which leaves Gagne as the closer of record. I will assume that Milwaukee was mindful
Can England's four largest beer marketers kill off cask ale? A report issued this week by boosters of handpulled real ale in pubs says no.The report from the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), Independent Family Brewers of Britain, Society of Independent Brewers, Cask Marque Trust and Why Handpull says that cask ale is actually undergoing a revival as large brewers move away from the category. The groups say that media reports about the 5 percent decline in the cask ale market are misleading because the reduced volume can be traced to four multinational brewers who account for 56 percent of the total ale market. The groups say these brewers are not supporting cask ale.In a report titled The Intelligent Choice, the cask ale boosters say there are now more United Kingdom brewers producing cask ale than at any time in the last 50 years. The report also says that more pubs now stock cask ale is increasing, CAMRA membership is up and attendance at real ale festivals is setting records. The group
September is quickly coming down to its last days, as is the MLB season, and time right now is the Milwaukee Brewers biggest enemy. The Brewers who were in first place in the weak National League Central almost all season long now find themselves 2.5 games behind Division leading Chicago Cubs after falling to the Atlanta Braves Saturday 4-3. Milwaukee actually came from behind in this game tying the game at 2-2 in the sixth. It would stay that way until the top of the tenth when Milwaukee's Corey Hart hit a homer giving the Brewers a 3-2 lead. But Milwaukee closer Francisco Cordero blew his 7th save of the year allowing a long ball to Braves pinch-hitter Scott Thorman to tie the game again. The Braves won the game in the 11th off reliever Seth McClung. Milwaukee's record is now at 79-75, falling further behind Chicago who won Saturday beating up the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-5. Milwaukee, has no shot at the Wild Card in the National League, they trail the current Wild Card leader the San
Okay, so maybe that is overstating it a bit. It is not exactly clash of the titans -- as if any game between two NL Central teams this season could ever qualify as that. However, with this being the last game between the Brewers and Cubs this year (absent some freak accident involving the Padres, Diamondbacks, Phillies, Dodgers....hell, everyone but the Pirates), this is a significant occurrence. With St. Louis losing today (thanks to the Garnerless Astros), this is a must-win for the Cubs. There really is not much more to say, other than mentioning, once again, Clobberin' Cliff Floyd's huge catch yesterday. Nothing more, just saying that he did it. Do your own Google search for the video.
Essentially forgettable Manny Parra (I'm not sure if that is his nickname, but it might as well be) with his 0-1 record takes the mound for the Brewers. Will take strength from their win last night (which pissed me off quite a bit, Z, so please stop th
The guy on the left needs the thing on the right to be better, or it's bye, bye Brewers.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. And if there's a true definition of desperation in baseball, it's the Milwaukee Brewers. Consider:
--The Brewers once had an 8 1/2 game lead in June.
--The Brewers' top three starters haven't recorded a win since June 30. That's two months.
--The Brewers have lost 14 games this season in which they've had at least a three-run lead.
So, yeah. Desperation. Forced to pull out all stops, Milwaukee has activated Ben Sheets for tonight's game. Now, I don't make predictions much, but if Sheets loses tonight, that's it for the Brewers. They'll be in a downward spiral the rest of the season. If the Brewers' ace can't come back and do well in the biggest series of the year, then their psyche will be shot to hell.
Sheets is the Mark Prior/Buttercup of Milwaukee. Build 'em up just to let 'em down. Great pitcher with Cy Young potential, but can't st
Sometimes, in life, you don't go to war with the army that you want, you go to war with the army that Jim Hendry thinks you deserve. Or, more to the point, the army Hendry managed to cobble together after he spent the entire off-season chasing around after free agents that we didn't get. Even though you would really like to have a great leadoff hitter and a slugging cleanup hitter and a decent bullpen, sometimes you get stuck with an 80% Soriano at leadoff, a slumping ARam at cleanup, and the Michael Weurtz and Scott Eyre in your bullpen. Sometimes you get a manager who thinks that Ronny Cedeno belongs in the major leagues. Sometimes, it rains.
And like, maybe you WANT to whomp all over everyone and go up 14 games in the division race by the All-Star Break, but instead you lose like 50% of your games and still inexplicably wind up in first place on August 28 because the Brewers clubhouse erupted into a cage match with their manager and the Cardinals can't stay sober/clean long enou
Growing up in the Syracuse area one of the highlights of the end of summer was the New York State Fair, which opens today. The Fair provided a bridge from summer vacation to the start of school, and was the place that you could go to see everything from the world's largest pig to big name country and rock musical acts. Now you can add craft beer to the line up.The New York State Brewer’s Association has a booth at the New York State Fair. The group wants to showcase the 59 breweries in the state and educate the public on the economic importance of brewing. The booth is in the Fair's Horticulture Building and will explain the brewing process. In addition to information from breweries, the Madison County Hops Alliance will also have an exhibit. The New York State Fair Commercial Brewing Competition winners will be displayed and free 2-ounce samples of beer will be given to adults. There’s a lot of talk going around about the Milwaukee Brewers Rookie Star third baseman Ryan Braun being a potential candidate for National League Rookie of the Year. Ryan Braun entered the 2007 season as the second best prospect in the Brewers organization according to Baseball America and he has been living up to the accolades of fans and critics. Braun has had an exceptional season thus far racking up a .343 batting average, 24 home runs and 62 RBI’s with 10 stolen bases. Braun was brought up by the Brewers on May 25th because after leading the Brewers with five home runs during spring training, Braun was assigned to Nashville of the Pacific Coast League to work on his defensive footwork and throwing. It is because of this late start to his season, he’s 46 plate appearances short of qualifying for the league lead in batting average and other statistics. Otherwise Braun’s statistics have him in the elite company of such former greats Joe DiMaggio, Johnny Mize
With a MLB season high 23 hits, the Colorado Rockies smashed the Milwaukee Brewers 19-4 on Wednesday.
However for the Brewers it was their fourth loss in a row.
Ryan Spilborghs, an outfielder for the Colorado Rockies said:
“Today’s like one of those snowball days where it just keep going and hits keep coming,”
“We’re almost fighting each other to get to the bat rack on days like this.”
How long do you think the Colorado Rockies can continue this run?
Also, are the Brewers going to snap out of their losing streak any time soon?
What do you think?

You need only look behind you a few games, Prince Fatty and Co., and you shall see the Cubs lurking in your shadow ready to pounce on you and your sausage races! Prepare to be overtaken and live the next 98+ years in shame and infamy!
Even this baby knows your fate, you bunch of fairweather fanned ninnies. That's right folks, we are 3.5 games behind, and as crappy as the Brewers looked in their series against the Rockies, we have reason to hope. If you've been hanging around a lake lately (you know who you are), then you may have missed our spectacular come-from-behind-kind-of-early-in-the-game win today against those loathsome sons of bitches, the Astros. We're doing good, well, great, etc., and we don't need to stop now.
With that in mind, this open thread is for you to discuss any and everything on your mind from just what the hell those things are that float around in your eye to what the Cubs need to do in order to keep up this streak, overtak
Like the Patriots who dumped tea in the Boston Harbor in 1773, a group of Wisconsin brewers dumped beer in the Milwaukee River on Tuesday in protest of a proposed state law that they say is unfair to breweries. The brewers are upset by a proposed Wisconsin Senate bill they claim would make things more difficult for start up breweries. The state lawmakers are attempting to update some post-Prohibition era laws. The proposed law would divide small brewers into two classes: brewpubs serving food and those who want to bottle and distribute their product. The brewers say forcing a craft brewer to decide the ultimate direction of their brewery before the first pint is brewed is not fair and could destroy a business before it gets off the ground. The brewers protest was over the loss of freedom to make a business decision six months or six years into the life of a craft brewery to change directions and follow the market trends. The revisions to the current law started because it only allows bre
Those of us who were watching Sesame Street/Free To Be You and Me in the 1970s will remember Rosie's advice to us all on days like yesterday:
It sucks to split the first two games of a three-game series, because now the BEST we can hope for is to pick up one game. Even more disheartening is the realization that two of our young starters are having some serious problems out there as of late. And the worst part of the whole thing is that it's almost like the big comeback on Friday never happened. It's upsetting. It's frustrating. It's alright to cry. Go listen to Rosie again. Alas, there is no rest for the weary (that would be our pigpen), as OGDJM!(5-4, 3.46), who's had his own . . . issues lately, takes the mound today against Dave Bush (6-6, 5.06).
And as long as we're talking, I have some issues with you people. Granted, I was passed out on the couch during the game yesterday, but I can't help but notice that NO rally animals were posted at any point on the game thread. How
Oh where is Randall Simon when we need him?
There isn't much more that can be said about yesterday's ginormous come-from-behind win, except that I just want to point out one more time that *I* said we could come back, and many of you, including abe and gravedigger, said I was nuts. To you, I have only this to say:
We would be remiss not to give some credit for yesterday's win to the rally animals, specifically the rallypus, rally squid, and rally daschunds, who stuck it out when the going got rough.
Today's game matches up Sean Marshall (4-2, 2.44) and Mark Prior North, Ben Sheets (9-3, 3.09). I won't be easy to get to Sheets. Then again, I didn't think it was possible to get to Cordero, and look how that turned out.
If Tony Soprano were here, he would say "Don't Stop Believin'." Then I would (very politely) ask Tony to pick another song, as those of us on the North Side have a negative assosciation with that songs and a certain ill-tempered, pudgy catcher that promot
No other way to put it, that's what this series is.
OK, Cubs, you guys are on a winning streak, are almost back at .500 and winning the games you're supposed to. Now comes when we separate the men from the boys. The Big Bad Brewers come to town with a 7.5 game lead in the Central and the best record in the N.L. (46-32). The good news for the Cubs is that Milwaukee is only 16-19 on the road.
Today the Brewers trot out their No. 1 pitching prospect, Yovani Gallardo. This kid (drafted in 2004 out of high school) is the real deal. He was tearing up AAA ball (leading all minor leagues with 110 strikeouts) before getting the call-up. In two starts as a big leaguer, he is 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA. And apparently he likes massages too.
It's going to be a good matchup of youngsters, as the Cubs will have Rich Hill throwing for them. Hill didn't get a win in his last start (the suicide squeeze game against the White Sox), but pitched a lot better than he had of late, allowing just one run whil
So. . . . there's a game today and stuff. Against the Brewers. We'll probably lose. Again. With some crappy lineup that will probably include
and And then will come in and blow the game.
It all seems so pointless.
Know who I wish was the GM of this team?
Anyway, our supposed "ace" takes the mound today, in what will most likely result in some sort of meltdown, though probably not as entertaining as the one that happened on Friday. Jeff Suppan (7-5, 3.71) heads to the hill for the Crew. Any guesses who comes out on top in this one? I have a few thoughts. . .
The fact that Z pitches today most likely means that Kewpie Hill will probably be catching. Whis is like. . . whatever. None of this matters, anyway.
El Partido:
1. 35,000 Brewers fans
2. Jeff Suppan
3. Derrek Lee imbibes a vial of hemlock in the 9th inning.
No rest for the weary, sports fans. After two big wins in a row, during which time the Cubs, inexplicably, did a lot of things right, we go right back at Milwaukee and Prince Fielder's ass again tonight. If Mikey can manage to stay behind the plate and out of everyone's way in the infield tonight, we might actually win again.
(so I spent part of my afternoon having fun with motivational posters. so what?)
Tonight the Cubs send Ted Lilly (4-2, 3.52) to the mound against Claudio Vargas (3-1, 3.90). We've faced Vargas twice already this year, the first time he lasted all of 2 innings and gave up 3 runs, and the second time he gave up 4 runs in just over 4 innings. In other words, no real reason to worry about this guy.
The guy we DO have to worry about, however, is the deceptively-named Prince Fielder, who has an insane OPS of 1.024 right now, depsite apparently not being of any royal blood whatsoever. WOWSA. And he's hitting .323 against us this season. Ugh. Just walk him, Ted. N
Aaahhhh, Milwaukee. Is there a more cultured city in America?
Never having fully come to terms with his immigrant heritage, the Italian Sausage makes a brief but ill-advised foray into the world of the KKK
If there is, I don't know what it is. Beer. Various assorted sausages. Cheese fries. Life doesn't get any better than that. Oh wait. It gets WAY better than that.
It's about time that life gets better for the Cubs, lest this entire site turn into a cage match as an outlet for the pervasive grouchiness which has consumed us lo these past many weeks. I'm no fan of the "this is a must-win series!" that tends to be thrown around on other sites, but this is one case where I am willing to admit that this series is going to be interesting. How will the Cubs react after Lou's four-game suspension and yesterday's shellacking of the Braves? Is this the beginning of a run? Or the beginning of the end for our caped crusaders? After Sunday's game, McDreamy said he felt a palpable chang
Nothing better than enjoying an off day after a win.
It was nice to see someone else’s bullpen implode!

Good to see Huddy snap a personal 2 game loosing streak, yes it took some Heap heroics..but none the less Huddy looked great. He got a total of 18 ground ball outs to 2 fly ball outs.

So close, yet so far.
Last night Armando Benitez of the Giants handed the Mets the win. He had two balks to set up Carlos Delgado’s 6th Career Walk of Shot in the bottom of the 12th ( the Mets are now 3-0 in xInning games). Coupled with the Braves loosing to the Brew Crew, we’re [...]
Today male Milwaukee Brewers fans had a chance to get free tickets for a future Brewers game at Miller Park by submitting to a prostate exam. Just hold the bratwurst, if you know what I mean. How badly will Milwaukee Brewers fans want free tickets to see their favorite team play? The team will find out tonight.According to the team's web site, the Brewers will provide two free tickets to a future Brewers game to any man who undergoes a free prostate exam today before the game.A mobile clinic vehicle is parked outside Miller park, and the team said parking was free and no appointment necessary. The Brewers, who lead the NL Central by 5 1/2 games and have the best record in baseball at 22-10, take on the Washington Nationals tonight.Related:Free baseball tickets worth a prostate exam? So incase you didn't know the Brewers...yes MY LOWLY BREWERS have the best record in the NL. With a record of 21-10 and having won 12 of their last 15 the Brewers are indeed red hot (as I am writing this they are beating the Nats 3-0 top of 7). They've got a 5 game lead on the 2nd place Cubs right now and 8 games on the lowly Cardinals (haha I love it!). But to the average baseball fan who isn't also a Brewers fan like me, how good really are the Brewers? Are they for real or are they in for a plummit? I'm going to try to figure this out as unbiased as I possibly can...GO BREWERS!!!!!!!Ok, so yea the Brewers have a great record but it could be a fluke right? In my full and honest opinion, no it isn't. This is the Brewers' year. They've been progressively improving over the last 4 seasons and with no injuries and every offseason move strongly bettering the team they're ready. I mean sure they're going to falter. Every team will have a losing streak at some point when you play 1
Happy Easter everyone! Hope the bunny was good to you and the egg hunts went well. Today, we have an action-packed day (more on that later). First up, the Cubbies go for the sweep in Milwaukee today. When I last left you all, I made a plea for the bats to come alive. Two days and 15 runs later, that has certainly been answered (thanks, guys). And the Cubs may need some more today with the debut of Wade Miller. If you like fastballs topping out at around 87 mph, then this is your man:
The Brewers will counter with Chris Capuano, who some would call a "crafty lefthander." But Capuano graduated from Duke University, so I call him "major douche." Comin' at cha!
And if you were watching yesterday's game, Friendly Ghost pretty much summed it up when he said that Capuano would try to pick off every Cubs runner who gets on base. Meaning the game may run longer than normal, which we can't have because...
I mean, there's a lot going on today. Let's start over in Augusta (TFC, I'm very j
Listen Z,
Yes, you.
Quit trying to look like you didn't know this was coming.
I think we've all been pretty patient with this I'm-a-crazy-huge-venezuelan-pitcher-with-an-insane-fastball-and-personality-to-match thing. It was fine when you were the number 3 or 4 on the pitching staff. Hell, it was fine when you were the number 2 on the staff. In fact, it was kind of fun. But you know you're not a number 2 anymore. You're our number one, and you have to start comporting yourself as such.
If you're not sure how a number one is supposed to carry himself, try to think back to this guy:
You might not know it yet, but he taught you everything you need to know. I'm not saying that you have to become quiet and stoic. I am, however, suggesting that you dial it down a little when you start getting upset. Try to go to your happy place and get it back together. Think about emailing your friends and family back home. . . only without the elbow injury this time (by the way, did you get t
What, you say? It's only the second series of the year? There's still 159 games to go? Well, that might be all well and true, but I think this series is very crucial for the Cubs. For one, Milwaukee is the chic pick to win the Central this season, thanks to a strong young nucleus and, for once, some pretty decent pitching. Chicago also really doesn't want to head into the home opener limping with just one or two wins. Then there's Big Z, who will get a shot to redeem himself (but that's for tomorrow's thread). But most of all, it's time to get the frickin' bats going.
If you had Mark DeRosa in the "Which Cub will homer first in 2007?" pool, then not only are you a winner, but also may need to get your head checked. Regardless, the Cubs currently stand like this:
Home runs in 2007
Mark DeRosa-1
Everyone else-0
But boy, can we hit some singles! Cubs rock at that so much, I'm starting to wonder if they should rename themselves "Cool Cameron Crowe movie."
The remedy for the cold
Some fans are so in tune with the identity of their hometown ball club that they take the team's nickname to heart (and to liver). Witness the following Milwaukee fans as they celebrated opening day, well...Brewers-style.Twelve people try out the new 12-person beer bong created by Jeff Barton of Milwaukee (in orange).
