My biggest problem with a large portion of modern-day B-movies, if I may be so bold, is their penchant for unchecked, misplaced arrogance. Well, I called something right in this year's NCAA championships. The Lady Vols won their 2nd consecutive title this week with their strong veteran leadership. Candace Parker played with a bumb shoulder, but she used her overall skills to help Tennessee throughout the game. I kinda pictured it...Candace Parker's 2nd consecutive title. Me thinks Candace is probably the best female college player that ever graced the court. I'm hopin' that she can carry over into the WNBA what she's showed in the NCAA.It seems like ol #4 has been going back and forth on his retirement. Recently there has been a small stirrup of whether Brett Favre will actually stay retired. C'mon Brett, you know you want to play. I really wouldn't mind at all if Favre came back and played for the Packers this year. It's fun

Companies will apologize for anything.Remember when I wrote a completely neutral, disinterested consumer letter to Garnier Fructis? Well, they got back to me:That's $10 I've "earned" from my labor. That pays for registering this domain for a year. Maybe if I complain to Fort Knox I'll get a complimentary bar of gold.Ooh, I should complain to Scarlett Johansson about something.
I get asked probably once a day what kind of replies I get to my letters. I get very, very few replies. These letters are frequently offensive and ignorant enough that they don't even warrant a reply from the most magnanimous and consumer-friendly of organizations. So imagine my surprise last night when probably my most absurd and stupid letter got a response. There was a thick envelope waiting for me when I got home from work last night. Who wrote to lil' ol' me? The Church & Dwight Company, Inc. These guys are the parent company of Trojan condoms.Click here to read my incredibly stupid letter.Because of my supposed raging ignorance about condoms, they were kind enough to send a small brochure about how to use their product next time I'm with the lady-folk. Argus reported that Green Bay Packers legend Brett Favre broke down crying at his press conference Thursday while announcing his retirement. He was overcome with emotion. Football players might have had to give up Human Growth Hormone but there's no ban on estrogen.
I couldn't end the week without a tribute to Brett Favre's retirement. Here's a few things I came across throughout the week that I thought were too interesting not to share. Here's an article about a couple from Florida who gave birth to twins days before the retirement announcement. The boys' names: Brett and Favre.TIME Magazine paid homage to the King of the Cheeseheads. It was Favre who made me love football and especially the Green Bay Packers. His exuberant love for the game was contagious, and it made those of us from Wisconsin feel like he was one of us. When I told Mia that #4 wouldn't be playing for the Packers any more, her mournful cry echoed that of Packer fans everywhere "We'll never score any points again! I'm gonna miss him!" Amen!

Brett Favre has officially left the lucrative life of an NFL quarterback to take the poor and destitute life of an undercompensated NFL veteran. I’d like to take his retirement to lash out against one of my most hated practices. Official statements that contribute nothing to society.

A legend has left us, and the world of football will never be the same. Brett Favre's career and his legacy have been discussed in depth so much everywhere by now, I won't go into great detail. Favre leaves the NFL holding virtually every major statistical mark a quarterback can achieve in all-time career categories, including wins, touchdown passes, and passing yards. While it is possible his numbers will one day be bested, we will not likely see that day come any season soon.Favre was a player like no other and I always hoped that the television scheduling gods would look upon me and grace me with a Packers game. Favre will be sorely missed by the entire state of Wisconsin and his fans the world over, myself included. However, from Favre's position, this was likely going to be his b
Dear Brett Favre, Well, I guess it's official, you've retired from the NFL. It's been a great run-- maybe the best any quarterback has ever had. It's too bad you couldn't go out on your own terms. I'm sure it's not a coincidence that the Green Bay Packers website "accidentally" announced your retirement with a mysterious post that was only online for a few minutes, and then a few days later, you actually retired. You probably wanted to play one more year. Unfortunately, you have to do what the internet says. It's really too bad. One time the internet told me if I didn't forward this one e-mail to ten of my friends, I would have bad luck. Sure enough, six months later I got a flat tire. It took a while, but in the end, the internet was right. You're probably upset that the internet is bos
Here’s the voicemail message sent to Chris Mortensen from now retired Brett Favre on the day that he chose to leave the NFL. He speaks about him being tired and it was Superbowl or Bust for him. I don’t think that there will be many like Brett to come along because I don’t know how [...]
It's not like I've never been called a homer before, so here's one last homer post for Brett.Dear Brett,I want to thank you. Throughout my entire football life you've been the starting QB of my favorite team since I can remember (it all started when I was only 4). Growing up my Dad and I rarely missed a Packers' game and my love for the Packers essential stems from my love of watching you play the game. You were so fun to watch and you played the game like it should be played, like a little kid who's having fun. You've always been my favorite player growing up, having to defend my fandom to all the Vikings fans at school. But it didn't bother me, because I knew that they'd never win a Super Bowl anyways. You've always been my favorite player and you always will be.I admire you and view you
Brett Favre announced his retirement yesterday leaving several die hard Favre fans unable to deal. Emotionally, these people should be very worried, but that isn’t the half of it! Financially, the US economy should be the ones that are taken aback by this news!
Below here is a VERY scientific graph I dug [...]
After 17 good years of playing on the NFL’s Green Bay Packers, quarterback Brett Favre finally decided to retire from the game. The Packers retired quarterback told ESPN today in quote, “I know I can still play, but it's like I told my wife, I'm just tired mentally. I'm just tired.” The legendary three-time MVP has achieved many goals in his career, including over several league records and, this year, setting the most career touchdown passes in the NFL. Just last season, Favre broke Dan Marino‘s career record or most yards in passing and John Elway’s record for most career victories. He also led the Packers to the championship game in January, unfortunately throwing an interception in overtime to give the New York Giants the winning field goal. After giving the news to the world,
I know I should be covering the Cardinals' Jerame Tuman signing today, but sometimes there are other events that take precedent. One such event would be the retirement of Packers QB Brett Favre after 17 seasons of gunslinging goodness. Favre's agent, Bus Cook (no relation to Bus Bettis), says Favre felt like the Packers didn't want him, and Pro Football Talk muses that Favre may ultimately end up in Miami. Somewhere, Aaron Rodgers waits to see if this retirement is in fact authentic. ESPN's DJ Gallo sought out the big names in football to get their thoughts on today's big news. Everyone from Terrelle Pryor to Cal Ripken pretends to check in. It's a must read. Packers QB Favre to retire [SI.com]Favre tells Packers he's retiring [Milwaukee Journal Sentinel]What they're saying about Favre [ES
So if you somehow haven't heard the news, Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre will not be returning to the Packers this fall. It was the "news heard round the Midwest" today, seeing as the man is treated, rightfully so, as a god in Wisconsin. The Journal-Sentinel site carried the first "official word" from Favre's agent and it crashed the site. Apparently it needs to invest in better bandwidth. It treated his retirement like a national day of mourning, encouraging fans to write about their Favre memories and featured a banner that said "Brett Favre 1992-2007." I thought at first that he had actually died and not retired. My brother and I traded frantic IM's this morning, trying to find out what's the actual story and then, when we heard, my Buccaneers-fan-brother was able to share his joy ful
According to Sports IllustratedFOX Sports first reported Tuesday that the Green Bay Packers quarterback informed the team in the last few days. ESPN.com said that according to Favre's agent the quarterback told coach Mike McCarthy of his decisionThus ends the career of one of the great quarterbacks in NFL history. Let the debates begin about where he ranks on the list.I remember the first time he played for the Packers after coming over from the Falcons. It was against the Bengals. Don Majkowski got hurt and Favre came off the bench to engineer a come from behind victory against the Bengals. You could see then he had the ability to be a special quarterback. He proved last year he could still play, silencing the doubters after a disastrous season the year before. It's good to see him go out
Well, we knew this was inevitable that the great Brett Favre would announce his retirement after a 17 year run. From his drunken days in Atlanta to his pain pill addictions in Green Bay, he was able to fight those demons to become one the NFL’s most popular QBs ever. 3 time MVP, Super Bowl [...]
Let the Aaron Rogers era begin. According to ESPN Brett Favre is finally going to hang it up. It is kind of shocking considering the run they made. I figured he would give it another shot. Oh well.
As a Vikings fan it is bittersweet to see him go. I always respected him as a player [...]
