      Chocolate Banana Bread or Cake
Chocolate Banana Bread has been an old favorite, and needs no preamble or praise. The pairing of chocolate and bananas is one of the most reliable ones where baking is concerned, and though bananas were traditionally baked with walnuts or pecans for the classic banana-nut loaf, this new combination has indeed found a place in the hearts and minds of foodies. Chocolate can get really overpowering, especially in baked desserts; but this Chocolate-Banana Bread recipe still focusses on the distinct flavor of ripe bananas, while chocolate, nuts and dried cranberries make it both festive as well as delicious! Every chef will certainly have their signature banana bread recipe, but there's always room to improve it, right?! So here I share my recipe with you - a classic recipe adapted to make it e

At one point I was forced to join Ratty in the compost heap rummaging around for food scraps. Birds, I discovered, are not designed for burrowing into rotting heaps of vegetation. We have too many sticky out bits and flappy bits. I came out of the compost heap looking like I'd been through a muck spreader! The only down side with them coming back from holiday is that they've brought the cat back with them. After all the trouble they had getting the cat into the cattery they were rather surprised to find when they went to collect itthat it didn't want to leave. High Fiber Bread
If you are starting a high fiber diet, eating a high fiber bread is an excellent way to increase your fiber intake. There are many high fiber breads on the market. When you are trying to find a high fiber bread look for breads that are 100% whole grain. I have been eating Nature’s Own Double Fiber bread. Two slices provide me with 10 grams of dietary fiber. That is a lot of fiber, especially when you compare it to the 1-3 grams of fiber in most white breads. You can use high fiber bread for toast in the morning or a sandwich anytime in the day. If you are aiming to get 25-35 grams of fiber a day then definitely add high fiber breads to you diet.

Will it be more of the same, or is something really going to change? The horror stories keep on coming up from a country that used to be the breadbasket of the region:The Aids crisis, and the creaking health system it has overwhelmed, has left hundreds of thousands of children orphans, struggling to fend for themselves. Breaking Bread together - Day 26
A miracle has occurred - there are clouds in the sky! The next village of Itero de la Vega has tudor style black and white houses, which makes it seem ancient, since to British eyes these are about the oldest homes we have. Happily, the plains are behind us at last, and we begin to [...]

      Bread Baking Day #8

      Beer Bread
Beer Bread, a bronze age flavor variation with other ideasby Steven WilliamsThe basic ingredients of beer are water, barley, yeast, and hops. In fact, this list of ingredients is the same as the one listed in the oldest food quality regulation in the world, The Reinheitsgebot. This regulation or law is best known in English as the German Beer Purity Law. The Reinheitsgebot was first put into legal effect in 1516 and stipulated that beer should only contain water, barley, and hops. Yeast was not considered an ingredient because it was not known to be a microorganism until the mid-nineteenth century. Not surprisingly, these basic ingredients used to make beer (water, grain, and yeast) happen to be almost exactly the same ingredients used in the simplest breads. It is because of this similari

Artisan Maple Oat Bread (Gluten Free)
This may be my favorite gluten free bread recipe yet! It is simple and easy to mix (with your stand mixer) and creates a beautiful, evenly risen loaf. The presentation is lovely and the bread is moist, soft, tender, and sweet. Michael said this was as good as the sweet King's Hawaiian bread we used to eat on occasion before I went gluten free.Maple syrup is one of my favorite sweeteners. It is expensive so I don't use it often for baking. The best type of maple syrup to buy is grade "B" because it is less processed than grade "A." It is also thicker with a more rich, decadent flavor.I've been working on this loaf for several weeks and I am very proud of the final product. I will be making this loaf often. It's actually a very quick yeast bread to make. It bakes in about 40 minutes and only

Corned Beef and Cabbage with Dark Irish Soda Bread
Happy St. Patrick's Day!Like any good Irish girl, I made sure to wear my green today, but I tried to get out of making our corned beef and cabbage. I asked Dave, "Wouldn't you like a nice lamb stew this year?" He promptly turned his face into a pout, and so it was decided. Corned beef and cabbage it is.Even then, I didn't put much of an effort into even finding a recipe, I went with the first one I found. Slacker. If you yourself have ever made it, you know that there isn't much to it, so I wasn't worried. We picked up a lovely brisket from the butcher (and they even gave me a nice thermal bag!!) and went home. I'd even planned to make it Sunday night, but got started later than I planned, (movies and cupcakes with a girlfriend will do that) so I broke it into two parts.Sunday night, I tos

      Vegetable Bread Baskets
I am very fond of entertaining, and hosting parties or gatherings is one of my favorite hobbies:) The other appealing feature is that I get to try different food, especially appetizers and hors'douvres that we don't usually cook in our day-to-day lives. Though I'm not a great cook, I believe that presentation is as important as the taste of the dish; if what you see looks inviting, only then would you be tempted to put it in your mouth, right?!I recently came across a cookbook that showcased only party food recipes, and it got me really inspired. All food does not need to be exotic, but just adding a different look in cooking or presentation can surely turn eyes, and impress your guests. Subsequently, I haven't been clambering up mountains too often, but rather have stayed in the comfort of my own home and have been dabbling about in the kitchen.Today's dish is a sweet and is affectionately known as Bread and Butter Pudding. Fruity Bread Pudding
This is a recipe for traditional fruity bread pudding, not to be confused with bread and butter pudding which is a different thing altogether (sort of a custardy sandwich dessert). This bread pudding can be made from left over crusts of bread. I keep the crusts in a bag in the freezer, and when there are enough I make one of these bread puddings.Any bread can be used, or bread based products. A nice idea is to use hot cross buns as they have already got some cinnamon and fruit in them. If you don't want to just use crusts, any slightly stale loaf of bread can be used in this way.The recipe comes from my dad, who used to make it in his restaurant. I have memories of eating this on tea breaks when working there as a teenager. A well earned treat, and a good way to use up leftover bread.

Big up to Raul Acosta and David (The Owner) for allowing us to come in. After a night at Mangos, we went back to Wet Willies where we were chilling with T-Weaponz, 950 Plus, The Ave Records, some DJs from L.A, and several artists from Brooklyn. Today, we are off to the beach, then heading over to the Latin Urban Mixx where nearly every Latin Hip Hop artist will be. Another Option - Fitness Bread
As we grow more and more concerned by the way we look, we start to go to the gym more, to run, to swim, everything that means burning calories. However, not many do the most important thing: keep a diet. Try to eat healthy, with less carbohydrates and fats, sweets and chemicals. And sometimes we do, but…and now comes the “but” part, many, unfortunately do not remove bread from their alimentation.Despite the fact there are some studies that show that bread itself does not lead to putting on weight, many athletes and nutritionists noticed that the white bread (most common type of bread) has negatives effects on the body, and in fact helps fat to settle in. It contains additives, sugar, and salt, all of these being things that are a big NO for anyone, especially one that wants to loose
