Atlanta was loving the fact that Tom Glavine was back in a Braves uniform. With that said, the New York Mets hated that very fact as he was virtually unbreakable. Anyone tired of winning yet?[Recap][Video Highlights]I'm not tired of it, but I am an idiot. See the post below; I flipped out because Michaels was hitting third, Doumit wasn't starting, and I doubted Gorzo would pitch well. He's not even good, struggling this year with getting guys out and staying healthy. For the fourth straight day.....[Recap]---------It's our first walk-off winner this year, right? Not the prettiest, but those are usually pretty enjoyable.-The Pirates, or more accurately, Freddy Sanchez, snapped the Braves' 6 game win streak and came away with a late win tonight.--Ian Snell was pretty puzzling in this one. He had some great defensive help early in the game on some well-hit balls, but then became unhittable. The problem: he walked 6 in 7 innings. Still, all that ended up with just one run on the scoreboard for Atlanta.---Freddy Sanchez doubled in two in the bottom of the 7th to give the Pirates the late lead (2-1), and things seemed in order with Marte and Capps at the ready. Marte came back twice in a row from 3-0 counts to get 2 outs, but then allowed 2 baserunners. Tyle

The Braves placed catcher Brayan Pena on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a mid-back strain. The move is retroactive to May 5th. Pena has appeared in 14 games this season and has four hits in 14 at-bats. The Braves also activated infielder Omar Infante from the 15-day DL. Infante was out with a broken left hand. He was in the starting lineup and batted leadoff in today's 5-4 win over San Diego. Infante finished 1-for-3 in his first appearance of the season.
Matt Diaz singled home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Braves edged the Padres 5-4, sweeping the three-game series at Turner Field. Greg Norton had a pinch-hit two-run single and Mark Teixeira also plated a run for the Braves, who have won six straight on the heels of a four-game skid. Yunel Escobar had two hits and scored three runs including the game-winner. Atlanta starter Jo-Jo Reyes left in the third inning with a blister on his left hand. Then his replacement, Buddy Carlyle, had to leave in the fifth with a strained muscle in his neck. Manny Acosta recorded the final out of the ninth to pick up his first win. Kevin Kouzmanoff doubled home a pair of runs and Khalil Greene added an RBI-double for San Diego, which has dropped four in-a-row. Joe Thatcher a
Can any team be hotter than the Atlanta Braves? With Chipper Jones and Manny Acosta providing the power in hitting and closing, the Braves are on a roll like you have never seen before. As for the pitching, the Braves have currently on the DL Mike Gonzalez, Mike Hampton, Anthony Lerew, Peter Moylan, John Smoltz, Rafael Soriano. These 6 pitchers were figured in to be big parts of the plans this year. The Braves have enjoyed success on the most recent home stand but it still seems like it is all for naught as they still remain 3rd in their division. There are 2 division that have this tight of a race. The other is in the American League Central where the spread is only 3 games. Of course, there is a lot of baseball left to play and you never know where that might leave our great superstars o

New York Mets first baseman Carlos Delgado has been in a slump as of late - and the fans at Shea Stadium have let him know it. Perhaps Sunday's game against the Atlanta Braves was the tonic that he needed as he clubbed two home runs, leading New York to a 6-3 victory over Atlanta at Shea. New York's offense was led by the aforementioned Delgado as he went 2-for-2 with 2 HRs, scoring 3 runs and driving in 2 while Luis Castillo and reserve catcher Raul Casanova had 3 hits each - with Casanova homering, scoring a run and driving in 2. Nelson Figueroa (2-1) picked up the win for New York as he pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing 7 hits, 3 earned runs, walking 3 while striking out 3 while closer Billy Wagner picked up his 6th save.Atlanta was led by the trio of Jeff Francoeur, Mark Teixeira and Mar

Two of the Atlanta Braves' old standbys, Chipper Jones and John Smoltz, discovered the fountain of youth; ironically or not, the fountain of youth was located in Miami. Jones went yard twice while Smoltz went 5 scoreless innings, leading Atlanta to the shutout win over the Florida Marlins Thursday at Dolphin Stadium. Jones led the Braves' attack as he went a perfect 4-for-4 with a double, 2 home runs, 3 runs scored and 3 RBIs while a trio of Braves had 2 hits apiece - Brian McCann, Jeff Francoeur and Mark Kotsay; McCann, Mark Teixeira and Kelly Johnson added a HR apiece. Smoltz (3-0) got the win as he pitched 5 innings, allowing only 3 hits, walking 2 while striking out 10. [Pirates.com Wrapup]How about 2 extra inning wins (over a solid team) in the first three games of the season! Great game for the Bucs last night, and they're now 2-1, in a tie for first place in the Central. I'm going to skip over most of the first 7.5 innings (since I did those [live]), but here are the rest of my thoughts on the Pirates' second win:-----------------So, what was that about the bullpen being a problem?[Mondesishouse]The Pirate bullpen was fantastic for the first time this year last night, coming in relief of another pleasant surprise, Zach Duke. Although he couldn't finish the 6th inning, Duke was sharp, but he still only struck out one and allowed 10 hits (but only 2 earned runs). Anyway, the 'pen was the real story. Franquelis Osoria was huge in cleaning up the mess Duke
...Another great article from Mets.com.The start of the NL East pennant race gets going tonight with the first meeting of the Mets and the Braves. With Tom Glavine now back on the Braves, this should be a very intersting series.David Wright has heard a thing or two about this Tom Glavine guy. Wright might even believe he's familiar with the man who once owned a Shea Stadium locker just a few yards away -- before realizing, of course, that he knows nothing at all. "I am excited about facing him," Wright said, tongue planted firmly in cheek. "I want to see what it's like, see the legend and the myth." Wright's short wait is over. The Mets and Braves will face each other for the first time this season, playing three games in Atlanta beginning on Friday. Mets fans might view the series with a
I'll do what I can tonight, but for now I'm going to do my best for some form of a liveblog(for now, at least).--Feel free to comment with any and all of your thoughts as the game unfolds.---PREGAME---Wow. It's raining in Atlanta and nobody is in the Turner Field stands. Looks emptier than a Pirate weekday home game at PNC (and that's saying something)--Also, the announcers are now telling me that Mike Hampton won't actually start. Apparently the Braves scratched him late and will start reliever Jeff Bennett. No word on the reason for that, but now we haven't figured out if the Bucs will change their lineup after the switch from a lefty to a righty.--Hampton's not pitching because of a "very sharp pain" he encountered while warming up. After a short delay, it looks like we're ready to go.

The Mets announced three roster moves on Friday as the team wrapped up Grapefruit League action against the Orioles, beginning with second baseman Ruben Gotay, who was claimed by the Braves. New York also optioned second baseman Anderson Hernandez to Triple-A New Orleans and returned right-hander Steven Register, a Rule 5 Draft pick, back to the Rockies....Of course if Ruben Gotay had to be claimed, it had to be by someone within the division. To make matters worse, it had to be the Braves. I think that Gotay's shortcomings outweigh his great bat from the left side. His defense, mental errors and inability to be consistent against lefties is ultimately what sealed his demise. I wish Ruben the best of luck with the Braves, just not when they're playing the Mets.

October is a beautiful month. The cool crisp days, the changing colors of the leaves, and for sports enthusiasts,...playoff baseball. When it comes to the playoffs, you could usually count on two things, the Yankees and the Braves. Although neither team tends to stick around very long once the games begin, you could always count on both of these teams being there come playoff time. This year however there is a changing of the guard. When the games begin, the Atlanta Braves will be watching on the sidelines like the rest of us. So what is Bobby Cox really like, and how can our manager clone some of his splendid ways? Does Andruw Jones have a red cape under his jersey in center field, or does that just apply to John Smoltz during the majority of times he takes the pitcher’s mound?Surely the catalyst for the Braves along the way to

Can somebody please explain to me why Edgar Renteria keeps getting traded? After hitting .332 in the season that just came to an end for the Atlanta Braves the shortstop who is a 12 year veteran of the Major Leagues was traded on Monday to the Detroit Tigers. In return Atlanta gets Jair Jurrjens a right handed pitcher who after spending most of the year in the minors finished the year with the Tigers. They also get Gorkys Hernandez an outfielder who played at the Single A level last year. Renteria who is also a slick fielding shortstop has gone from ST. Louis in 2004, Boston in 2005, who then traded him to the Braves where he played for the last two seasons. Renteria says he is happy to be reunited with Tigers manager Jim Leyland who was his manager in 1997 when they both won World Series rings with Florida. I realize that Atlanta is hot on prospect Yunel Escobar who they see as a less expensive alternative to the veteran who may have a huge upside. Still to give up a proven commodity
Georgia residents will now have the opportunity to apply for official state-issued Atlanta Braves license plates. Let the next police officer who 'runs' your plates know that you are a proud Braves fan and are willing to tomahawk-chop their ass in protest. Unfortunately, images of the new plate are not yet available. For each tag sold, $10 will be donated to The Atlanta Braves Foundation. The Atlanta Braves Foundation is the non-profit arm of the Atlanta Braves that actively supports community organizations and their programs within the metro Atlanta area. Since its inception in 1992, the Atlanta Braves Foundation has provided support to thousands of metro Atlanta based organizations and has contributed more than 2.7 million dollars in financial assistance to the community. Through the generous support of Braves players, employees, sponsors and fans, the Atlanta Braves Foundation continuously strives to improve the quality of life for our youth.Related:State-issued Atlanta Braves lic
September is quickly coming down to its last days, as is the MLB season, and time right now is the Milwaukee Brewers biggest enemy. The Brewers who were in first place in the weak National League Central almost all season long now find themselves 2.5 games behind Division leading Chicago Cubs after falling to the Atlanta Braves Saturday 4-3. Milwaukee actually came from behind in this game tying the game at 2-2 in the sixth. It would stay that way until the top of the tenth when Milwaukee's Corey Hart hit a homer giving the Brewers a 3-2 lead. But Milwaukee closer Francisco Cordero blew his 7th save of the year allowing a long ball to Braves pinch-hitter Scott Thorman to tie the game again. The Braves won the game in the 11th off reliever Seth McClung. Milwaukee's record is now at 79-75, falling further behind Chicago who won Saturday beating up the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-5. Milwaukee, has no shot at the Wild Card in the National League, they trail the current Wild Card leader the San

This represents a lot of the top tier of the Braves system, after the general house cleaning that came with getting Mark Teixeira. Not to mention that Acosta, Devine and Brandon Jones are with the Atlanta Braves to finish out the season. It’ll be interesting to see what the Prospect List looks like when it comes out this winter. You would figure that either Lillibridge or Jones will occupy that top spot.
[Hat Tip:
Man, the one time I get to watch the R-Braves all year, and they stink up the joint. It didn’t help that Richmond starter Blaine Boyer got ROCKED. I was really hoping he’d turn into a bottom of the rotation kinda guy, the only think he had working for him was his hook. Everything else looked flat and hittable. It was proven as the River Cats hit two home runs in the 3rd inning a 3 run shot and a 2 run shot.
Here’s just some bullet points.
Richmond’s pitching was horrible, the only pitcher that did well was Chad Paronto. I really hope we get him back in the bullpen next year. Yes, after his injury he wasn’t the same. But last night he was throwing well and getting ground balls.
I know it’s only one game, but Lillibridge didn’t show up.
Hell Brandon Jones who was sent to Richmond for this game, didn’t show up either. Late in the game there was a pop up short to the outfield. Jones, Blanco and Lillibridge went after it…by the way
It’s that time of the year again, September 1st when Major League rosters expand for the final month of the season. Yesterday I posted a list of players the Mariners are calling up, now it’s the Braves turn. Not a lot of surprising call ups.

Joey Devine

The Braves' closer situation after the surprise jettison of Wickman.
Who knew Bob Wickman was such a bad clubhouse influence? I was genuinely surprised by this move, as I didn't really hear any chatter. After the fact I heard that he was complaining about not pitching is save situations, so I can't fault the Braves. On performance Wickman is no great closer, more in the Todd Jones and Joe
Been a while since I’ve done a pre-game post. Once again we’re at the back of the rotation, yesterday Jo-Jo got the start because Chuck James has a cranky shoulder. Now, we move on to Lance Cormier - need I say more?
Mets beat the Pads, Phillies beat the Dodgers. Where goes that put us? A [...]
One down, 2 more to go. Take a trip around the Mets blogosphere and everyone is ready to hand in their Mets ‘nation’ membership It’s pretty damn entertaining. Anyways, we finally beat Oliver Perez who’s been a pain in our ass all year.
We’re now 3.5 back of the Division lead and 1.5 back of [...]
Strap in kids!
A very important stretch of games starts this evening. As noted Willie Randolph the Mets manager doesn’t seem to look a head or care how the Mets match up with the Braves. Though I’m betting by the end of this series he maybe singing a different tune. We’re 4.5 games out of the [...]
Today we go for the series win, and hope the Mets fall on their face (though that would be Tommy wouldn’t get win #300 so it’s a tough one for me). After todays game (speaking of the Mets) the Braves head to New York for 3 games against the division leader. Now would be the [...]
Well has anyone recovered from last night?
As mentioned earlier, Lance Cormier has been re-called from AAA Richmond and Jo-Jo Reyes has been sent back down. For tonight Lance will pitch out of the bullpen, and then take over the #5 spot in the rotation. Add on to that, Shortstop Edgar Renteria is most likely out [...]
In my last post I expressed my disappointment about the Braves trading Jarrod Saltalamacchia to the Texas Rangers for Mark Teixeira. Well, tonight is Teixeira’s debut as firstbaseman for the Brave’s and what a great debut it’s been. Mark walked in the first inning with the bases loaded and brought in Yunel Escobar. In the sixth inning Teixeira cranked a home run with Edgar Renteria and Chipper Jones on base giving him 3 RBI’s for his third at bat as an Atlanta Brave. Pretty good way to start his career with the Braves !!!
