The concept of boycotting academics in other nations because one disagrees with the actions of their government is controversial and raises issues concerning academic integrity. Of all the nations in the world, the UK lecturer’s union has single out Israel as the only one which abuses human rights due to its policies toward Palestinians. The [...]
Chinese Internet users are once again calling for a boycott of French products, following French President Nicolas Sarkozy's decision to meet the Dalai Lama.An anonymous post on the website China.com on Monday, which urged consumers to say no to French goods for the second time this year, attracted massive interest. Within an hour, more than 3,000 people from across the country had expressed suppo
Most of you won’t do anything this article says. You’ll remember Part 1. Part 1, as you recall, was about why Christians should quit boycotting. The title bluntly calls for a boycott of boycotts. You’re on board for that.
This second part, however, is about supporting. Most of you don’t like supporting...
Californians Against Hate has launched a new website urging for a call to boycott A-1 Self Storage. Sluggish starts have been England's bane in the ongoing ODI series against India and Andrew Flintoff should be asked to open the innings if they are to avoid a whitewash, according to cricketer-turned-commentator Geoffrey Boycott.Criticising the ploy to open with Ian Bell and Ravi Bopara in Sunday night's rain-truncated tie, Boycott said England needed a flying start in the shortened match but the
There has been a bunch of chatter on taxgirl.com about whether it’s appropriate to use tax as a means of bringing about change, not by the government as is usually done, but by the taxpayers.
In the UK, the citizens of Haringey Borough are actually calling for such a thing: a tax boycott. Some [...]

Election day last Tuesday, November 4th was such a WONDERFUL day. History was made and now with Obama as president, MAYBE the US can get its act together. Maybe the US can focus on things that are important, like making healthcare available to everyone, fixing the crumbling infrastructure, take care of the homeless, STOP invading and bombing countries for oil, stop destroying the environment, etc.
While much ado is being made about the overwhelming support of prop 8 by black voters in California, there is little ado being made about getting even with the Mormons (aka: that huge group of white people who donated $20 million to passing Prop 8 ) for seeing to it that gay Californians lost their [...]

Halloween's coming up and we are all in the mood now more than ever to watch horror films. In fact, this is the time of the year where even non horror fans embrace the genre. Posers. After reading the newspaper for over 30 years I know that the Washington Post loves to pick a person or issue and go on the attack with frequent negative stories. So it looks like Sarah Palin is the latest target. Today there are two such pieces, one on the front page of all places questioning reimbursement she received for travel expenses and another on the front of the Metro Section saying that

Seriously. I even told people that I was going to boycott the Olympics. I honestly believe that China should never have been selected to host the games because of their "issues". You know, its the little things like Tibet, censorship of information and ideas, and human rights violations. But the real reason I was going to "boycott" the Olympics was because I really lacked an interest. It is v

So many homeschoolers are up in arms about a contest that Subway has been running. You can read about it here. Apparently it is a contest that specifically states that it is NOT open to homeschoolers. The question then is this... is this discrimination against homeschoolers? Many folks think so. So much in fact, that they are calling for a boycott of Subway and letters to be written to management.

Every possible mistake imaginable has been made by these companies who claim that they can authenticate autographs. One high profile “authenticator totally got it wrong on a complete limited signed edition and was running around the USA trying to get back their Certificates. Authenticating forgeries, secretarial, rubber stamped signatures, machine signed signatures as genuine is commonplace. Worse are the monumental amount of genuine autographs that are deemed not genuine. This is not hearsay, these are facts. Television news stations of a high profile “authenticator” passing forged signatures as genuine is starting to seem commo
If one were to replace "Republic of South Africa" with the "State of Israel," the rest should apply just as strongly. Israel today -- 60 years after its establishment through a deliberate and systemic process of ethnic cleansing of a large majority of the indigenous Palestinian population (for an authoritative historical account of the "birth" of Israel, refer to Ilan Pappe's The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine) -- still practices racial discrimination against its own "non-Jewish" citizens; it still maintains the longest military occupation in modern history; it still denies Palestinian refugees -- uprooted, dispossessed and expelled by Zionists over the last six decades -- their internationally-recognized right to return to their homes and properties; and it still commits wa
In Monday’s LA Times, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar wrote a must-read piece about the history of Olympic boycotting comparing the 1968 Olympics to today’s boycott talks of the 2008 Beijing Olympics some 40 years later.Kareem says best what PreraceJitters.com has been trying to express for months now on this website. The games are in Beijing at this point, and it is best to engage China rather than isolate them. The United States should use this opportunity to build a bridge to improve life for Chinese citizens and the lives of those whom Chinese policies affect. The Basketball Hall of Fame member best writes about the struggle of African Americans at the time of 1968 Olympics in Mexico City—which coincided with the height of the Vietnam War. Instead of a total boycott of the Mexico City Games,
As I reported two days ago, Al Sharpton is leading a City Wide Boycott of the Sean Bell verdict. He is calling on citizens of New York City to come together for a day of active protests throughout the city. The locations are as follows: 125Th Street and 3rd Ave, Park Avenue and 34Th Street, 60Th Street and 3rd Avenue, One Police Plaza, Varick and Houston Street, and in Brooklyn, House of the Lord Pentecostal Church located at 415 Atlantic Avenue. At each location, protesters are asked to get down on their knees in prayer, leading to a citywide slowdown. The entrances to the Midtown Tunnel, the Holland Tunnel, and the Triborough Bridge are to be affected. Nicole P

Starbucks Baristas - Give them freedom or give them death!I was over at iww.org site reading up the the latest Starbucks response to the anti-union intimidation charges in Grand Rapids, Michigan (see story). And I thought to myself, how can this be helping Starbucks recover? How can this be helping them in the eyes of the American people as they try and convince us to come back into the stores in the era of $4 dollar a gallon gas? Then I thought...the blue collar customer has never been the target market for Starbucks. In fact, the union busting, send everything off to India or China capitalists have been their ideal customer for a long time. Now drill down one more level and you then realize that the soccer moms married to the capitalists who close down factories here and send manufactur
I think I need a scorecard to keep track of all the boycotts and pissing matches. First, Chinese netizens decided to boycott Louis Vuitton, Carrefour, and anything else French because of the Olympic torch relay debacle. Then the French decided they had nothing to lose, so they gave honorary citizenship to Dalai Lama and Hu Jia.Then there was the case of the American volunteer who was allegedly harassed for going to Carrefour and accused of being French (Shanghaiist story). After the initial report, it seems that it wasn't too bad and the man wasn't hurt. If incidents like this are repeated or involve violence, there is sure to be more backlash to follow. Of course, Shenzhen has yet to see such a protest--Carrefour is only slightly less crowded than usual.Speaking of other boycotts, apparen
Bahrain has begun a new campaign targetting gay/lesbian citizens in a bid to cleanse them from the country. The government is working to ban all foreign homosexuals from being able to obtain residence. The government is also conducting a study to see how widespread homosexuality is in the country and what can be done to counter it. The government also advises teachers to look out for signs of homosexuality amongst students and to take appropriate disciplinary action.
This is outrageous and our voices must be heard!

I was reading on Daily Kos yesterday that Obamamaniacs are calling for a boycott of ABC, and the advertisers that advertised during the Debate on the 16th. What in the world are they thinking? Sound and Fury: 'Goons,' the Carrefour Boycott, Nepal etc etcSo the Dalai Lama is in the U.S. and is going to meet US President George W. Bush's special envoy, Undersecretary of State Paula Dobriansky. The timing is, to put it mildly, unfortunate. There's already so much sound and fury out there that it's hard to think constructively. Beijing is already steaming mad and no doubt the internet will add the the furore. At this point it would be great if everyone could just back off, take a deep breath and maybe start over. But of course, that's the whole point of the lead up to the Olympics, it's irresistible to protesters as the pressure on China will only get stronger as 8-8-08 (the opening ceremony date) approaches. It's still puzzling what exactly they hope to accomplish. The Darfur campa

By Peter Heinlein VOA News, Addis Ababa (April 14, 2008) - The biggest opposition party that participated in Ethiopia's nationwide elections Sunday is planning to boycott the second part of the voting, charging the first half was rigged. Another, larger opposition group had pulled out even before the first vote. VOA's Peter Heinlein in Addis Ababa reports the withdrawal of the two largest opposition factions would clear the way for Ethiopia's ruling party to take control of local councils nationwide, and to increase its majority in parliament. The leadership of the Oromo Federalist Democratic Movement voted Monday to join a boycott when Ethiopia votes in critical municipal elections next Sunday. The OFDM had been the largest opposition party participating last Sunday, as Ethiopians voted fo

The U.S. war crimes trials at Guantanamo Bay are running into a new obstacle: boycotts by the defendants. Three men accused of being al-Qaida operatives have now chosen to boycott their upcoming trials. More defendants are expected to do the same as the military attempts to prosecute dozens of prisoners at the isolated, high-security U.S. base overlooking the Caribbean. At pretrial hearings this week, two men, a Saudi and a Yemeni, denounced the tribunals as a sham and said they would not appear for future hearings. Defense attorneys say they could face sanctions from the bar associations in their home states if they don't uphold the wishes of their clients. ~ read on... ~
No matter which major presidential candidate you prefer, your candidate is moving toward supporting a boycott of the opening ceremonies at the Beijing Olympics.
Hillary Clinton:
In a statement released by her campaign Monday, the New York senator pointed to recent protests in Tibet; and to the Chinese government's failure to pressure the government of Sudan to end the violence in Darfur.

Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said here Wednesday he opposed a boycott of the Beijing Olympic Games and suggested building “continuing, profound and sincere friendship” with China. In his speech delivered in fluent Chinese at the Peking University, Rudd said he disagreed with those who had called for a boycott of the Beijing Olympics, saying the event was “important for China’s continuing engagement with the world”. Rudd said Australia wanted to be a true friend with China, “a partner who sees beyond immediate benefit to the broader and firm basis for continuing, profound and sincere friendship”.It was a friendship that offered “unflinching advice and counsels restraint” to engage in principled dialogue about matters of contention, he said. Rudd also praised China
I plan on boycotting the Olympics, but, then again, I've boycotted every Olympics since 1976 (I don't count the attention I paid to the 1984 games because they were in Los Angeles and, thus, unavoidable). I didn't boycott the Seoul Olypics because of the rust on my Kia or Atlanta because of that modern Nostradamus, Ted Turner. In fact, my Olympic aversion has nothing to do with politics: The Olympics are just deadly boring. All of those "profiles" stuck in between a tiny bit of action; the announcers and their "let's go tos." There's the explosion of events that nobody cares about. After Perez Hilton posted streams of songs that may or may not have been the work of Britney Spears (it turned out they were), Sony/BMG and its subsidiary Zomba filed a lawsuit against the gossip site. Hilton claims the suit is unfair because the songs were not downloadable, plenty of other sites were hosting them too, and because it "complied immediately" with each takedown notice received from RIAA lawyers.
