All you need to do is take your pill 20-30 minutes before your meal. Everyone is different and the effects of the Hoodia diet pill may take up to 14 days to work. Pfizer, who developed Viagra, has invested approximately $21 million for the right to develop the active ingredient, P57 which mimics the effects that glucose (ten thousand times as active as glucose) has on the brain. America's Dirty Little Oil Secret: Plastic Bottles and Bags
In addition to oil companies, the growing global economy, and wars, one culprit in the increase in oil price is consumer consumption of plastic products. Americans used 31.2 billion liters of bottled water in 2006, requiring over 900,000 tons of plastic. The manufacturing process to make the bottles requires a combination of natural gas and petroleum. The U.S. bottled water market took roughly 17.6 million barrels of oil. Americans are not alone in this; other large consumers of bottled water include Mexico, China, Brazil, Italy, Germany, France, Indonesia, Spain and India. Plastic bags have also become commonplace all over the world for their ease of production and cheapness compared to paper bags. Plastic bags take oil to produce, just like plastic bottles. Currently, the U.S. consumes 1

What surprised me, that some manufacturers of mineral water bottles, knowingly or unknowingly are directly assisting this “sell new water in old bottle” lobby, due a faulty design of bottle caps. Ideally, a cap of a sealed mineral water bottle will have two parts- the main cap and a circular ring which is factory sealed with the main cap. It's a bit long lengthwise and narrow in the width with flat areas on the front and back. The bottles are also wide neck. With the first try, my son did finish the bottle. After the first few sucks, he didn't seem to have a problem. The next attempt was the first feeding of the day. Maybe he was just too hungry, but we gave up after a few sucks and some crying. The next feeding we got about halfway through the bottle before giving up. He finished the bottle at the next feeding though. I think if I persisted, he could get used to them without a problem. I'm not so sure I'm going to though. The MAM bottles are very nice th

BPA Free Sippy Cups and Bottles? Does it Matter?
Several readers have emailed me with questions about safe sippy cups, bottles, and other baby products so I have done my eco-duty and done my research. I found some incredible new (and existing) BPA free products for you that will keep your kids safe while they sip.Head to SafeMama and Z Recommends for those products and the best reviews you will find. (I would have posted them here but they have already done the research.) You can also visit The Soft Landing to purchase products. However, to be fair, consumer groups and plastics manufacturers have issued statements citing that their products are safe and that they do not leach BPA at a rate that presents risk to children or that they stand by their products. Avent has even gone so far as to say they are pro-BPA which promotes anti-regulato

Simple carrying device for largish PET bottles.
Large PET bottles can be a pain to carry around. This simple carrier handle addition to larger bottles (like 1.5 and 3 liters) makes them easier to carry. We have never seen it before now, but it is no doubt available in lots of places. we found these in Hanoi, and they were put in place after purchase on the bigger bottles. Unfortunately the handles are not removable once they have been pushed in place. Re-use would of course have been preferable...

SIGG has a lot of cute reusable bottles that are stylish. The easiest eco friendly thing you can do is convert to a reusable bottle. Most plastic bottles end up in the landfill, and even if recycled use up a lot of energy to produce and then to keep recycling… Stats show that 8 out of 10 bottles end up in the landfill. Dr. Brown's bottles
My first son had reflux pretty bad. Unfortunately, I didn't discover Dr. Brown's bottles until he was just about off the bottle. So when I discovered I was pregnant again, I knew right away which bottles I was going to use. They seem to be working out ok so far. My second son seems to have a touch of reflux, but spit up is minimal. I do wish I had the bottles for my first son just to see how much of a difference they would have made as he vomited quite a bit. With my second son, I do think Dr. Brown's bottles make a difference though. Some reviews I read at Amazon.com said the bottles were a pain to clean, but I don't think they are too bad. Each bottle has 5 parts: the bottle, nipple, top, and 2 parts which fit inside to reduce bubbles, so basically there are 2 extra pieces. I do dishes twice a day, so washing bottles is no big deal for me.All in all, I am glad I decided to try Dr. Brown's bottles. If you have a baby with reflux or colic, they are certainly worth a try. The set I

Bottles of Pills: Medication Options for Autistic Patients
As with any illness, disease, or disorder, there are a number of medicine options available to help control these symptoms. It is important to remember that none of these medications will "cure" autism; they simply help control some of the effects of the disorder. There are advantages and disadvantages to each drug, as they all have side effects as well as benefits. When choosing medicines to effectively treat autism, your doctor can make recommendations, but since autism is a disorder which varies from person to person, you should use drugs very carefully, watching to see how the body reacts to the treatments. First, consider the safety of the drug. Some cannot be used in children or in people under a certain weight. Make sure the dosage is easy to understand and before you choose one medicine or another find out how it is administered (pills, injections, liquid, etc). This is important if you are not comfortable with certain methods, such as injecting yourself or your chil

Not Quite Gilligan’s Island: Man (Re)Builds Island Paradise on 250,000 Recycled Plastic Bottles
When Richie Sowa’s tropical island paradise was destroyed in Hurricane Emily in 2005, it contained a two-story house, a self composting toilet, solar oven and three beautiful beaches. Pretty modest as far as private islands go, you think, except that Richie’s island was floated on plastic bottles - 250,000 of them to be exact. Spiral Island, as it was called, was the result of the life-long environmentalist’s efforts to demonstrate sustainable living. Now, Richie is back to building his new island and this time his plans are even more ambitious. Not content with the original design that had bamboo and plywood netting loaded with sand and complete with planted mangroves, all laid out on a bed of plastic bottles, Richie now plans to design the island so it can float out to sea. An island and yacht in one! It’s located in Mexico, and this time Richie plans to make sure it resists the vagaries of the weather. So is this plastic bottle, sand and bamboo contraption an island o

2400 Bottles of vintage Jack Daniels to be destroyed?!?!?
Oh, HELL no… Officials in Tennessee raided a bunch of warehouses in connection with potential robberies occuring at the nearby Jack Daniels distillery. They found thousands of bottles of JD, many of them vintage, over 100 years old. According to a police spokesperson, if it turns out that these bottles were involved in a theft, and were indeed being sold illegally, they will be destroyed. The value of the liquor, especially considering its vintage, is estimated at around $1 million. One bottle alone dates to 1914, with an unbroken seal, bringing its worth to around $10,000! But fuck that! We know what the real tragedy here is. It’s pure, golden, baby-making, shout-inducing wife-swapping JACK DANIELS!! You can’t just pour it out!! This is much more of a crime than the entrepeneur that liberated the bottles from the distillery. For God sake, Chuck Norris brushes his teeth with Jack Daniels, that way he doesn’t have to spit!! You have to respect that… This

I know what you’re thinking, he’s gone completely mad! Well maybe so, but there is this guy who has challenged the ultimate land fill nightmare and has taken 250,000 plastic bottles along with wood and bamboo to support the structure. There is even a 66ft x 54ft house on the island which is situated in a lagoon near to Puerto Aventuras, South if Cancun on the Caribbean coast of Mexico. The whole thing took around three years to complete and to me it really does sound like paradise. Glass Baby Feeding Bottles
I’ve been a fan of Avent for a long time. Most parents I know swear by it or some other plastic feeding bottle, but I’ve yet to come across someone who uses glass bottles like they do in the old days. It’s been said that glass bottles are safer because the materials used are non-toxic. You know how some parents can be very particular about the effects of toxic substances found in plastics. I guess glass would be an ideal alternative, although I’m not sure how strong the glass can be. I’m imagining someone like Momo flinging a bottle across the room and breaking it into a million pieces. This looks safer, I think. The Wee.Go bottle in a variety of colours! The bottle is covered with a modern sleeve that will help protect the bottle from breakage and also prevent bumping into other articles in your diaper bag. This sleeve is free of plastics and is 100% non-toxic. The bottles look cool, ya? Just like an iPod wrapped in a silicone sleeve. [Link to website] v
