Today Boston will retire their sixth player who celebrated his 89th birthday yesterday Johnny Pesky, who wore number 6 for the Boston Red Sox. Sweeping Success: Blue Jays Complete Weekend Sweep of Boston Red Sox
The Toronto Blue Jays would like everyone to know that the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees aren’t the only AL East teams with playoff aspirations. In defeating the Red Sox 7-4 on Sunday, they completed an opening season sweep of the defending World Champions. Dating back to last September, the Jays have taken seven straight from the Red Sox. For some reason, they just seem to have the Red Sox’ number. Well, everyone except for Roy Halladay, who even in a winning effort was touched up for four runs, three of them via the home run. Halladay, who is one of the most dominant pitchers in the American League, seems to have the same problem against the Red Sox that the Sox have against the rest of the Blue Jays’ staff. But is it time to anoint the Blue Jays as a serious co

      Boston Red Sox
I don’t think that I need to explain what the Boston Red Sox are. They are the team which has proven many times that they are simply the best. Even if you are not a fan and do not agree completely with what I said you have to give them credit, because it takes a lot to be a current WSC champion. Of course to have the most fun the best way is to attend one of their games. Watching them on TV is simply not the same. Personally I would give a lot to get my hands on some spring training tickets for the Red Sox and I know that many people would feel the same. What would you do to obtain some Boston Red Sox spring training tickets? If you are a fan I imagine what you would do, but if you are not, who knows maybe you will become a fan?

Savvy Face: Theo Epstein of the World Champion Boston Red Sox
With the Boston Red Sox winning their second championship in 4 years, I found it fitting to spotlight Theo Epstein, the Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Boston Red Sox. Known For: Theo Epstein is the youngest General Manager in the history of Major League baseball, as he was hired when he was 28 years old. He helped build the 2004 and 2007 World Series championship teams. Bio: Theo Epstein was born on December 29, 1973 and was raised a few miles from Fenway Park in Brookline, MA. Theo grew up playing baseball and always dreamed of working for the Boston Red Sox. Epstein attended Yale University and interned with the Baltimore Orioles for three consecutive summers. Upon graduation, his first job out of school was in the PR department for the San Diego Padres. While working 70-hour weeks for the Padres, he also attended the University of San Diego School of Law, and passed the California bar exam in 1999. John Henry and Tom Werner bought the Red Sox in 2

2007 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox: A Profile in Courage
Courage is not a word I like to use very often when talking about sports. Does it really take courage for a man to go to the field and play a children’s game while making quite a bit of money? I don’t think so. It may take guts, determination, or even mental toughness to take the field in a big game with the whole world, or at least nation, watching your every move. Knowing one mistake and you will forever be remembered for it could seem a little daunting. But courage? Maybe I am playing a semantic game here, but the word courage should be saved for true heroes. Our military, our firefighters, our police officers, they are the ones who show courage when faced with true danger.  Once in a while a sports story comes along that does inspire you, that brings you back to earth. A story that does show courage. This year’s Red Sox season had one such story. Am I talking about the unbelievable post season pitching of Josh Beckett? No. Am I talking about the clutch hitting

Boston Red Sox win the World Series (and muggins here finally gets some sleep)
On Sunday night, the Boston Red Sox swept the Colorado Rockies to win the World Series for the second time in four seasons. I had a bit of an Eastern Standard Time week, staying up to watch five consecutive Bo' Sox victories on Sunday in Game 7 of the ALCS against the Cleveland Indians, on Wednesday and Thursday for Games 1 and 2 of the World Series at Fenway, and on Saturday and Sunday, for Games 3 and 4 in Denver. Highlights included Dice-K's wind-up wiggle on the mound, Pedroia's lead-off homer in Game 1 of the World Series, Papelbon throwing out Holliday at first, Dice-K's two-run single in Game 3 (not bad for an American League pitcher), Jacoby Ellsbury's consistent on-base percentage and Gonzalez speed, Lugo plucking that one out of the air at short-stop, Kielty's pinch-hit homer in the only ball he faced in the World Series, and Mike Lowell and Youk's consistent brilliance. Big Papi and Manny of course continued to do their thing. It's a joy to watch a team reach their p

Boston Red Sox complete amazing sweep to World Series
Just a couple of weeks ago, the Red Sox were completely on the ground. It didn’t seem like they were going to accomplish something good since the Indians were beating them, and they were just one ALCS game away from throwing their MLB season to the toilet.  Suddenly, everything changed.  Now the Boston Red Sox crown themselves as the 2007 World Series Champions, with an amazing 4-game winning streak against the Colorado Rockies. Game 4 ended on a 4-3 victory, Jonathan Papelbon as the hero who did the last move to win and one hell of a celebration. Boston showed the 86-year wait between one World Series Championship and the next one is over. After a similar victory on 2004, they took the best out of the team and became MLB Champions again just 3 years later. There seems to be a formula (and a baseball team with full capability to use it) that makes them come stronger than ever when everybody thought they would stay inside the hole dug by their contenders. In a few words, they did mo

2004 was no fluke. Alright, even Tim McCarver could tell you that (and he did, repeatedly), but what does 2007 really mean? It means that the new dynasty has arrived. The Boston Red Sox swept the Colorado Rockies in the World Series to become the 2007 World Series Champions! Congratulations to the Boston Red Sox and their fans. The Red Sox won their second championship in four years. Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon struck out Rockies' pinch-hitter Seth Smith to end the game and it was time for celebration. Papelbon threw his glove in the air, and opened his arms for Jason Varitek. Varitek put the ball in his back pocket and leaped into Papelbon's arms as everyone gathered together to celebrate victory. Boston Red Sox News
Here is some Red Sox news for you on this icy and snowy Valentine’s Day morning here on the shoreline of Connecticut. The official reporting date for pitchers and catchers is on Friday. So far we have seen Jon Lester, Jonathan Papelbon, Daisuke Matsuzaka and Josh Beckett are among the many players already in camp. Julio Lugo may even be in camp on Thursday. While the pitchers and catchers are reporting to camp on Friday, Wily Mo Peña has a plane ticket booked to be in Phoenix that day. Why you ask? The Red Sox and Peña still have not reached a settlement on a contract yet and Friday is the day that his case will be heard by the arbitrator. Josh Zeide, Peña’s attorney had this to say: “The ball’s in their court, if they want to make Wily Mo feel part of the team. The last thing we are looking for is any kind of adversarial relationship.” The two sides are about $475,000 apart right now. J.D. Drew is still not officially on the 40 man roster yet. Strangel

I apologize for not getting this posted this earlier today, but as is life, things come up and you have to take care of personal business. Anyways most of you have probably read the news I am about to post and if you haven’t then you can continue reading. If you have, sorry to make you read it again. There is a little bit of news out of Red Sox Nation on this cold, wintry day here in New England. Daisuke Matsuzaka is currently working out in Southern California and will be holding a press conference at 5:30 EST. If I find anything after the press conference is held, I will be sure to update everyone. Theo Epstein pulled another fast one on the media of Boston. Seems our beloved General Manager is a married man. A few years back, he snuck out of the Red Sox offices in a gorilla suit. Well this time, he managed to keep his marriage to Marie Whitney a secret. It was first reported that Epstein and Whitney got married on Coney Island at the original Nathan’s Famous hot dog stand. This report was not true. Epstein’s father, Leslie, confirmed the nuptials to the Boston Globe. He also kept the details of his honeymoon a secret and this could have been the reason for the long delay in getting J.D.
