The Baby Boomer Dilemma: Finding superior, yet cost effective live-in-care for elderly parents and relatives
The Baby boomer generation is considered savvy, but few are prepared for the task of caring for ailing elders. A subset of the baby boomers, sometimes referred to as the “sandwich generation”, have to simultaneously care for children and elders. Canadians [...]
The Baby Boomers are those born between 1946 and 1964. For those with lots of energy, you might call them "Zoomers". Sometime I feel like a zoomer and sometime I feel like an over-the-hill boomer. Usually, when I start listening to great oldies like"The Twist"or"Roll Over Beethoven", I get pumped up and start zooming again. There are many things that bo

Going through an interview session with the younger generation can certainly present an entirely different set of problems for baby boomers. Mark Feinsand/New York Daily News (aka The Daily Roger):David Wells may want to pitch for the Yankees, but at this point, the Bombers don't appear to have much interest in bringing the aging lefthander back to the Bronx.Wells, who turns 45 on May 20, is hoping to pitch a shortened season, and a return to New York would clearly be his first preference. Gregg Clifton, Wells' agent, hasn't been in touch with the Yankees yet, but he has heard through different channels that Hank Steinbrenner may be interested in a pinstriped return for Wells. "We'll wait and see what happens over the weekend," Clifton said. "I'm sure the Yankees want to see what they can do in-house first." Steinbrenner didn't return a phone call yesterday, but a source with knowledge of the team's thinking said the Yankees ar

After adjusting for multiple sources of bias and differences in sample construction, we establish that (1) the U.S. high school graduation rate peaked at around 80 percent in the late 1960s and then declined by 4-5 percentage points; (2) the actual high school graduation rate is substantially lower than the 88...

Boomer lit is fiction aimed at readers, women mostly, in their 40s, 50s, and 60’s. The stories involve conflicts that affect Boomers-aging parents, career woes, retirement, health issues, where-the-hell-did-my-life-go, and good old-fashioned loneliness. The best of boomer lit involves a strong dose of self-assessment.

Both men and women are short changed when sweeping generalizations are applied to the male psyche. Men cannot all be painted with broad strokes. Some comments from a poll we took may help build a more complex picture of the midlife male perspective, particularly concerning long-term relationships.

In the real estate industry, there has been much talk and interest in the Baby Boomers that are now coming to retirement age. The Baby Boomers are approximately 78 million people that were born from 1946 to 1964. To put the Baby Boomers in perspective one only needs to look at the basic statistics that illustrate the immense size and power of this demographic. For instance, approximately 7,918 people in the US turned 60 each day in 2006.
The Bureau of the Census estimates that there will be twice as many persons age 65 or older in 2030 as there are today: 69 million (20 percent of the population) versus 34 million (13 percent of the population). Likewise, the Bureau’s population projection, from its middle series, shows 18 million persons age 85 or older in 2050 (4 1/2 percent of the U.S. population); now, there are less than 4 million persons in that age group (1 1/2 percent of the U.S. population).

Life continues ever faster. Obviously we aren’t the same people we were in high school, when we had everything to learn, wide-eyed, and our life was in front of us. At this chronological phase, we come prepackaged, we are in the middle of a journey, and have a great story, which includes family, wisdom, and a keen intuition, a list of preferences and what we don’t want.
Perhaps, it should go without saying; our youth lives inside us. We still feel, 16 or 23, on the inside, I do. Perhaps, we live with someone and are blessed to have the ideal relationship or we thought it would be for life and something changed the outcome. We watch our partner change ever so gradually, didn’t really notice the changes, as we changed too, and we observed change in ways we found to be intolerable.
Rachel Carson warned us, but our generation endures being nuked, fluoridated, infused with toxic agents, whether emissions or elimination of the rain forest to pollute or limit the a

It's clear that Americans have developed an addiction to food with sinus-clearing pizzazz. Why is hot so hot? The conventional explanation is that the nation has an increasingly adventurous palate. But some food scientists and market researchers think there is a more surprising reason for the broad nationwide shift toward bolder flavors: The baby boomers, that huge, youth-chasing, all-important demographic, are getting old. As they age, they are losing their ability to taste - and turning to spicier, higher-flavor foods to overcome their dulled senses.

So, it's in a strip-mall, but this was a lot better then expected. They actually managed to pull off having a full BBQ set-up (something I think would be hard to do in a strip mall...go figure). "Portland Hamburgler "The Human Cy-burger" had the BLTG (pepper bacon, gaucamole, lettuce, tomato, caramelized onions, and chilpolte mayo) for $8.95 with fries."Hamburgler" went with the sliders plate. Now this isn't burger sliders....uh oh...but three of those "other meats": pulled pork, chicken, and a beef brisket. Taps out at $6.95I'm actually wanting to check out the "breakfast sliders". Same as the sliders, but with scrambled eggs. So close to finding a breakfast burger you can taste it.What's nuts is that they open at 7am. Whoh! Baby Boomers, the "Born to be Wild" generation, are living nearly twice as long as previous generations and they are remaining active. As Boomers are remaining active - they are dealing with the pain from an active lifestyle. It is impossible to underestimate the importance of being Boomer. Baby Boomers -- people born between the years 1946 and 1964 -- represent nearly 29 percent of the population in the United States. The number of baby boomers in America is counted at 78.2 million, and these nearly 80 million baby boomers are reaching their late fifties. Approximately 7,900 Americans turn 60 each day. That's about 330 every hour, or more than 4 million a year. The significance of these numbers is that within 20 years one in five Americans will be older than 65. What are some of the common causes of pain in those over 50?Osteoporosis - is a condition affecting both men and women in which the bones thin, become porous and brittle, and fracture easily. Anybody know what the average age of a blogger is? How about what percentage of bloggers are still in college, less than 24, or have kids? I honestly don't know what the figures are for those questions, if you have them, let me know! Today, lets talk about what I recently read, regarding seniors and blogging. More and more seniors, individuals over 65, have joined the blogging ranks and have begun detailing their life stories and daily occurrences. This is a wonderful thing! The ability to self-publish [for FREE mind you] is an extraordinary opportunity. What better way to leave records of yourselves? Now that we have this powerful tool, historical and personal events are far easier to a) document, b) discuss, and c) share with the world. According to Matthew Flamm of NewYorkBusiness.com, local sports radio station WFAN has chosen former Jets QB Boomer Esiason to replace Don Imus in the mornings on their station. The station also hired veteran radio personality Craig Carton, who has hosted the Jersey Guys morning drive program on WKXW-FM in Trenton, N.J. for the last five years.
The show’s name will be Boomer and Carton in the Morning and it will debut on September 4th, running from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. for the morning commute.
…This is a good move for Jets fans, as we will likely see more Jets talk in the morning now and possibly a few more interviews with people within the Jets organization on the FAN, now that we have Boomer here. Boomer did have a tryout with the station for a week or so in late April and early May, where he worked with Chris Collinsworth in the mornings and interviewed Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum during that time…
The public memorial service for Bill Walsh will be held this Friday at Monster Park, and the master of ceremonies will be none other than Chris Berman. That’s right, on Friday Bill “Don’t call me Steve” Walsh could…go…all…the…way…to heaven. He will be back, back, back, back, gone from this earth. You’re with me pine.
All joking aside, Berman does have a very good serious side and he should do a nice job overseeing a somber event such as this. He’s also one of the few currently renowned sports personalities who was actually around during Walsh’s heyday. The ceremony will include and NFL Films video tribute, and former 49ers Joe Montana, Steve Young, Roger Craig, Jerry Rice, and Roger Craig are scheduled to attend. Dan Snyder isn’t involved, and so parking and admission are free.
