I liked this radio. It's small, but puts out a large sound with well-defined bass and crisp, bright highs. Hip-hop music escapes the speaker sounding close to studio perfect with only the most bass-heavy songs giving it some trouble.
It's small enough to carry comfortably and, unlike larger models, may be placed securely on a stool or, as in the video below, beside you on a couch.

Call it a boombox, a ghetto blaster, a Jambox or a Woggabox or a simply a portable stereo cassette recorder. These loud radio cassette recorders blasted into the scene back in the late 70s, but they became popular during the breakdancing fad and the hip hop culture in the 80s. They were usually seen held on the shoulder or placed on a street corner for an impromptu breakdancing session. In fact,
(Credit: Freshwatercatfish.org) The noise you may hear in the background is one Antonio Stradivari spinning in his 18th century grave. We honestly don't have anything against the boombox's comeback, but the monstrosity pictured here looks like a DIY version of something from a CSI autopsy table. This ...
We had an article on talk2myShirt last October speculating about the revival of the BoomBox trend of the 80s in form of bags and backpacks with speaker and amplifier integrated to hook up to our 21st century small audio players like the iPod.
Sure enough another option is coming to the market via iWorld with a [...]
This colossal monstrosity of an iPod docking station, known as the iBig Box, apart from being about as desirable as a hole in the head, serves as an inflatable iPod compatible boombox thus requiring you to pump it up prior to it pumping out your tunes and if you’ve already detected that we simply have very little (if any) respect for it you’d be pretty much spot on.
This iPod Boombox may look like an authentic 80s-style boombox, but look closely and replaces the cassette with the iPod.
This Boombox has a Built-in iPod dock with a spring-loaded door.
Your iPod is charged and controlled by the push button controls at the front.
The iPod Boombox comes complete with iPod dock adaptor; power cable [...]
From the SXSW withdrawals department... I want to declare the week after SXSW as official "Support Local Austin Hip Hop Week". So if you still got alcohol running though your veins and need to get your fix, head out to the Boombox show @ Lucky Lounge tomorrow night and get your drank on!-----So which SXSW show will you remember after all the brain cells are gone? Being a cheap Asian, I again did not get a SXSW badge but there was enough free goodness to go around. For me it was definitely Ice Cube and Talib Kweli, it's the most memorable because of the SXSW sausage on a stick that gave me violet diarrhea. How about you?!?
Your new portable audioMost likely, you've never heard about the industrial design student named Joonas Saaranen, but in any case, now's the perfect time to know him. And not necessarily because of what he is but for what he does: creating nifty gadgets to make our lives happier – and his latest contraption is the Reppo II backpack boombox. This rather intriguing audio solution is his BA project and by far, one of the neatest among its class: we're talking about a no-nonsense audio system fitting on your back, just like a backpack, allowing you to effectively share your music with the rest around you.In simpler words, the Reppo II is a hardshell backpack with a very cool, streamlined design, loaded with an amplifier and two full-range speakers, capable to put out quite a blast with any m
Industrial design student Joonas Saaranen added his view on the 21st Century boom box by creating the Reppo II backpack with a pair of full-range speakers and an amplifier.
Unlike the growing number of sound backpacks we have covered so far, the Reppo II is a urban hardshell backpack with conventional speakers as compared to the [...]
(Credit: Technabob) If this boombox-backpack concept ever makes it to production, the designer deserves to be shot. And if people actually wear them while cranked up full-blast, they probably will be. Speakers built into messenger bags,, backpacks, and even bowling bags are nothing new, but usually they're designed with ...
Reppo II is based on a mobile music concept and for those who wants an urban hardshell backpack with speakers and amplifier to spice up the party outside. This is an industrial design created by Joonas Saaranen and for those people who want to make people head turn around
I guess that it’s going to be like a “sequel day” today as we get to review 2 newly released game sequels designed to keep you all busy on your idle times. And what are game sequels you say? Well, they are just flash game installments coming from the same developers of the original game [...]
The LiveSpeakR™ - invented by 23-year-old Erik Groset, is an ultra portable speaker system for the iPhone unlike any other. It features a set of speakers that fold-up and store conveniently behind your iPhone for maximum portability. It is a boombox in your pocket! Speakers are powered by 2 AAA batteries or an AC-adapter. They are shielded from radio frequency interference, which allows the iPhone to operate without going into airplane mode and gives it the ability to still receive calls. But, the truly impressive functionality of the LiveSpeakR™ is what makes this product shine above the competition. The speakers expand, contract, and rotate to work with both portrait and landscape modes. Behind the LiveSpeakR™ unit is a stand to hold the speakers up at multiple viewing angles

The 10-man band, featuring MC Overlord and MC Trey God, a brass section headed by Sosa called the GrooveLine Horns, a guitarist, bassist, drummer, DJ and keyboardist, played their first San Marcos show Thursday at Lucy’s San Marcos.“So now our record’s almost done and we just really decided to get out of town and start playing around Texas, L.A. and New York and started doing something with it,” Sosa said. “It’s too good just to play every Tuesday night and then disappear.”Boombox has been playing Tuesday nights
This is definitely a why-did-nobody-think-of-this-before product. The iHome Bicycle Speaker is an iPod dock which fits into a custom 'bottle rack' on the bike frame. The rechargeable mono speaker holds your iPod in a water resistant polycarbonate case and is controlled wirelessly via a handlebar mounted remote. The only thing missing is a dynamo to charge it on the go, but it will charge your iPod if you hook it up to an AC outlet. The speaker will fit any docking iPod, but I'd stick with the Nano. I hate to think what a cobbled street or pothole would do to a hard drive. $100, available soon.(Via Gadget Lab.)
