This is my compilation of Dead Trees for the year 2008. The books I’ve finished reading this year. This is a follow up to my previous post, Dead Trees: A Book List for 2007. Hopefully I’ll get more reading done this year, seems there’s never enough time.

(Continuing our crusade to protect your freedom and bring awareness to your lives, we here at Goldmind's unwind have collected the great banned/not banned book list. For every banned book that you cannot get your fingers on here for various reasons, we offer you a feasible counterpart that you can read with pleasure and depravity while thumbing your nose at the government)1. Banned- Uncle Tom's Cabin- Harriet Beecher Stowe- Banned for promoting stereotypes about African Americans, this literary classic of the civil war era is no longer attainable. Not Banned- Uncle Joe's bedroom- Colon Polker- still available as an "Adam and Eve" pocket reader, this literary "classic" will never be banned as doing so would set off a flurry of protests from gay activists everywhere.2. Banned- Where's Waldo

Peter Singer: Animal LiberationSince its original publication in 1975, this groundbreaking work has awakened millions of concerned men and women to the shocking abuse of animals everywhere.Peter Singer: The Ethics of What We Eat: Why Our Food Choices MatterHow much do we really know about the food we eat? We routinely pick up neatly packaged cuts of meat, cartons of milk, eggs, and other goods at the grocery store, giving little thoughts to their origins.
Favourite Readssid hite: a hole in the worldSimple and engaging, but ends a little abruptly, not keeping all the promises it makes.Bill Bryson: A Short History of Nearly EverythingA rough, informal guide to science, geology, et cetera. Not Everything, not even Nearly Everything. But pretty interesting. Full of astounding facts.Eoin Colfer: Artemis Fowl: The Eternity CodeExciting and smooth, only unnecessary over-use of ultra-cool phrases in some places.Roald Dahl: Boy; Going SoloVery coloured and amazing autobiography.Chetan Bhagat: Five Point SomeoneAn account of the other life at IIT.Paul Davies: God & The New PhysicsThe highest echelons of physics explained with a deft hand.Philip Pullman: His Dark Materials trilogy (Northern Lights; The Subtle Knife; The Amber S

Well, this is my complete book list for this semester. I have ten of the books already, six are being shipped to me in two packages, and four are on backorder from the ODU Bookstore. I don’t know what to expect. All in all, I am looking forward to my classes… except the Seminar. Does that booklist look boring or what?

Today it is library day, if all goes well. Either way we have to go, the only difference will be if we can get there before they close for the day or not. If we get there in time, I’ll pick up a few more books.
I need to see what I need to do for Read-a-Ton again. But, I wanted to get the books down in a list since once they’re not in the house, I won’t remember what has been read!
We’ve read:
The Prodigy by Alton Gansky (Had actually read it several years ago, it’s a very good suspense/mystery style novel. A small child born to a mother who is by no means well off in the money department, but they make do. Afraid if I write much more, I’ll accidentally give away the story’s secrets. Not particularly a cozy mystery, but very well written. Just not something I was able to read right before going to sleep!)
200 Crochet Blocks by Jan Eaton (Craft book, not bad. Good color combo ideas. The blocks presented to make seem pretty ba
I made several awesome discoveries over the weekend.Breastmilk is still the most effective pink eye remedy, even when it's so bad and I break down and decide on going to the doctor. B woke up on doctor day so much improved we cancelled and are just continuing the milk. It astounds me every time it works. We got several books to serve as summer curriculum. The Dangerous Book for Boys, Domiknitrix (I actually need someone badass to tell me to make a gauge swatch and mean it, uh, I mean, the patterns are great), Sew Subversive and Save This Shirt. (Those last two were more appropriate for little girls, where Generation T is more about exposed skin, which is a no-go). The level of finish on the Sew Subversive garments--in the photos anyway, was nowhere near what they accomplished in Save This Shirt, but they're both good for different reasons. And K got The Cute Book by Aranzi Aronzo, which is full of preposterously cute felt creatures. She studies it, and is very on my case to go buy fel
